Does it always just end up Democrat vs republican at the end or is there a realistic scenario where it's a republican vs democrat vs independent Trump at the end? Because that would be pretty swell.

No, I believe that there have often been 3rd candidates (eg, Jill Stein ran in 2016).

I wonder if Trum ran as independent, would Republicans would vote for him or the GOP?
Chances are they'd follow their party, if only because I don't think even they are stupid enough to not understand that a fractured voter base would be a death sentence for them. But then, who can tell?

It would split the vote, almost certainly. Nowhere near 50/50, but easily enough like the effect UKIP was having on the tories back in the good old days.

Speaking of death sentences, can Trump just... Go already? He's never going to stop his bullshit until then, and way healthier and younger people have died naturally sooner than him. Must be those "best genes" he's got...
Edit: then again, with the kind of cult he's got going, the grift would probably continue posthumously...

Knowing Trump supporters, he could die in his bed peacefully of natural causes and they'll still say it was an assassination.

No, I believe that there have often been 3rd candidates (eg, Jill Stein ran in 2016). There have, none get many votes. Ross Perot is the last one that got a sizeable vote and even that was only about 20m votes. Jill Stein got about 1% of the vote.

The biggest problem of him running is less about whether he wins but that his agenda and rhetoric will be given so much airtime, feeding the right wing lunatics.
And the main opposition is currently an 82 year old.

And I guess that might push the republicans even more to the right to counter it, like the Cons.

Pelosi is stepping down, along with the rest of the house dem leadership. Their replacements knock a combined 100 years off the total age off.

So there's just one replacement, then.

I wonder what that means for Biden going for a second term. It’s nice to have someone in the White House who witnessed the Big Bang, but it might be time for a President who isn’t actively dying right in front of our eyes.

Who are the rising stars that might have a chance (so presumably ruling out Harris and AOC)

They should put Sesame Street in charge. Decent, compassionate furry people. And they can probably count better than Trump or Biden.

And the main opposition is currently an 82 year old. Kind of irrelevant, the majority would vote for a brick on a string if it wasn't trump.

Doesn't matter, surely? This is all just delaying tactics.
They'll appeal and question and try to keep the actual evidence from being presented ad infinitum.

Not been following it, but don't they only need to delay until the Republican majority can ignore it?

Not been following it, but don't they only need to delay until the Republican majority can ignore it? Probably - is there another month of the democrats having the house? But I suspect that the longer view is either for him to win the presidency again and then rain firey vengeance on anyone who's "wronged" him, or alternatively to that not happening, tie anything he doesn't like up in court until after he eventually keels over. At which point, he won't care anyway.

The special master/mar a largo search is appointed by the Justice department, the house can’t do dick about it.

Fair.
Wasn't yesterday's one (about the SC allowing the House committee to get his tax returns) time limited by this session, for example, though?
He has a LOT of legal battles ongoing right now, eh. Shame.

What if DeSantis wins the presidency and pardons Trump? There doesn't seem to be that great a blood running between them. And as long as there isn't, no Republican is likely to win the presidency.

What that reporter doesn't know is he is speaking to the infamous murderer Hammer Joe.
As his life seeped away in a nearby darkened alleyway the last words he heard were a gentle whisper in his ear "394"
