He sold off huge amounts of national park/monument land last time so I wouldn’t put it past him.

I hadn't realised raw milk was even a thing in the UK, Wikipedia to the rescue, it's illegal for any sales in Scotland but England, Wales and NI can have farmers sell it directly to idiots as long as there's warnings about it and they have to have higher hygiene standards than farms that do the sensible thing and follow in the footsteps of Louis Pasteur. It's illegal to sell in shops. I think I'll stick to the heated up stuff myself as I'm not a twat. Well not a total twat at least. American raw milk enthusiasts have found a way to make sure that raw milk is perfectly safe to drink

Wait. All these hot takes get confusing, so pasteurisation is a bad thing now?
I'm confused, because that would definitely be better than boiling milk and wouldn't denature all the proteins etc.
It's getting to the point where it's difficult to tell if people are doing a 'bit' now, or serious.

Honestly, if in their stupidity and self-assurance they manage to loop back around to actually practicing at least some proper hygiene, I'd rather that than see another pandemic

The dangerous bacteria being in quotes is also weird and really troubles me.
Is that suggesting they are some made up thing and not dangerous?
OK, certain commensals (when living in the right place) are fairly benign, fair enough, but there are plenty out there that will really fuck you up given the chance.

I'm confused, because that would definitely be better than boiling milk and wouldn't denature all the proteins etc. It's getting to the point where it's difficult to tell if people are doing a 'bit' now, or serious. It gets easier to follow when you understand that many of them go along with whatever the latest unqualified guy in charge* says without a care as to previous stances they've taken. If RFK Jr.'s brain worm tells him that suddenly drinking raw milk is bad, it's going to be all "OMG of course I would never and never have done so, what are you talking about " without a hint of irony. Nothing said before matters, everything changes as required because the guy that "tells it like it is" "didn't actually mean it that time you liberal snowflake". Except the hatred towards anyone that isn't a white Christian Republican straight (in-public) male. I don't think even Trump can tame that particular beast anymore. *Fauci and other experts "in charge" got overridden by Trump and his bleach and horse medicine, that's why I added unqualified

The hope is that they'll accidentally follow just barely enough safe practices for everyone else to not get utterly fucked (in this particular instance, at least)

Do we think Trump doesn't understand how tarrifs work? He's talking about them as if they're going to be punishing China, but the only way that works is if you have domestic alternatives you're planning to lift up, since it's not the country you're imposing tariffs on who pays them. He's imposing tariffs on these other countries "until they solve x/y/z", but that's not actually going to motivate them to do whatever dumb bullshit he wants unless the US has such a viable alternative to those imports that the quantity of imports drops.

I doubt he understands the intricacies of it, but I think the "other countries are giving the US a raw deal and need to be punished" thing is one of the only sincere, more or less consistent beliefs he has.

Even if they did work the way he and his supporters think, by making things more expensive for the countries they are levied on, what does he think will happen? That those companies in those countries will just accept it and say "oh well. less profits for us, outmanoeuvred by those clever Yankees again!"?
Or that they'll just raise the prices and pass them on to the consumer? Either way, the (American) end customers end up paying more.

But they *aren't* making it more expensive for those countries. They don't pay the tariffs, the customer does. The hope is that customers will buy American instead, but if you don't have American alternatives...

I'm not sure Trump actually knows how virtually anything works so tariffs are certainly beyond him. 25% tariffs on everything from Canada and Mexico and 35% from China? Er yeah that's going to work out great and it's thought it'll be 10% from anywhere else at a minimum. It's pretty fucking insane stuff to be his first act but I guess when you elect a brain addled rapist criminal fuckwit what do you expect? The extra 10% for Chinese goods is because of some reverse opium war shit that's probably only in his head.
