Rules for thee but not for me, innit?
Edit: New page et al., but given the subject of this thread, nobody is going to be confused about it, right?

I know our courts are a product of entrenched tradition and privilege but it does feel like having that structure, however small c-conservative it might be, provides a level of stability that the politicised US system lacks. The whole thing around SCOTUS being political appointees has been proven ripe for abuse when the GOP refused to follow convention over Obama’s last vacancy then ignored convention again to stop Biden getting a go at the end of Trump’s first term. Yeah it's kind of a good example of Corporatism, which is a state built out of different "groups" with their own interests. Like Unions, Farmers, Aristocrats (traditionally) etc. They have their own hierarchies and traditions outside of the raw politics of Westminster.

Project 2025 wants to reinstate executive order 13957. It does not only sound like something Palpatine would do, it also exactly is something he would do. They really want to create imperial rule.

Yeah, heard about that on John Oliver. National parks run by climate change deniers, and all sorts. Way wider reaching than the main Departments. Loads of US public services etc are run by civil servants, well away from political interference.

Yup, exactly. Obviously there potential for interference has always been there but this now makes it more likely - much like what happens with the FCC etc.

Lets hope he goes hard on these Project 2025 policies and by midterm moderate voters will be compelled to vote against him. It goes without saying that Democrats must also get their shit together by then...

Ripping into the National Parks and especially the designated monuments is also a way of destroying the last vestiges of native lands and cultural artefacts.

I mostly had those who chose not to vote at all for whatever reason in mind. Also, what intelligence?

The Department of Government Efficiency has to be a joke name surely, no way did Trump put Musk in charge of DOGE. America is a fucking joke if it's true.
Also the pick for Secretary of Defense, a twat from Fox News.

I know that historically speaking, no country being partitioned has ever worked out for the best for either of the resulting countries, but fuck me, that country needs partitioning.

I’ve been saying that for a while. It’s far too large, with far too many disparate ideologies, for one single government to govern in a way that doesn’t pander to the current knee jerk popular outrage and shadowy vested interests.

I don't know, their ideology seems pretty consistent across the country, with the exception of major cities. Even with the blue states, when you look at it on a county level it is basically one or two blue patches where the cities are surrounded by a sea of red.

Replacing a 4 star General with a guy from Fox News who doesn't believe in washing his hands seems so....obviously a move by Russia? But either people are too dumb to see it or can't call it out because they're compromised too.

The US government turning into a pump and dump crypto scheme is the kind of plot twist I wish I had the brains to write. Absolutely amazing.

The US government turning into a pump and dump crypto scheme is the kind of plot twist I wish I had the brains to write. Absolutely amazing. That's the thing. The main argument against Trump being the worst version of himself as portrayed by his detractors is that it would be implausibly outside the normal way things work for him to be able to do. Yet implausibly outside the normal way things work keep happening

Putting two people in charge of a department to increase efficiency is some genius level thinking. Not only that, but heading a *newly created* department that has no (?) executive ability and can only make recommendations for the legislature to analyse, debate and then try to implement. Strong "xkcd too many standards" cartoon vibes.
