Were going to the pub to pretend it's not happening. That's a good plan. I've decided to go to the cinema and watch Heretic and completely ignore the news and here until tomorrow morning for the inevitable. Omg. Literally on the bus to see this as well

I feel like it has to be close because of the nature of swing states deciding the election, so unless there's state's that are going to be in swing range that weren't expected to be then it just has to be close. It's decided by like 7 states or something. I think there are just enough swing states that if most of them went one way, it would be a landslide victory. When Biden gave up his position, I thought they were screwed, but now I'm feeling pretty confident about this. Trump didn't even have enough momentum to win in 2020, despite most presidents staying for two terms, and this run-up has been even worse for him if you ask me. I feel like the main uncertainty factor here is Harris herself. I'm not sure if the USA, being the USA, are ready to vote a woman of color for president just yet. Any chances it might convince some undecided, or perhaps even some conservative-leaning Dems, to throw away their vote?

A Trump win would be catastrophic, to say the least. I'm not remotely confident that it won't happen though. Sane voices on the right seem to be a rarity and what remains is an ultra-polarised endless scream of lunacy. It's hard to predict or gain any comfort from the post-truth society we live in will deliver any sort of logical or just result.

“ All six residents who voted in this year’s election live in the former hotel. One of them, Scott Maxwell, expressed surprise at the unexpected split result. “I didn’t see that coming,” he told the New York Times. He also admitted that even he was taken aback by his vote for Trump.”
Taken aback?! Did you channel the spirit of Mrs Drumpf and let her possess your body?
Where’s that button pressing meme?

If the gender split is anything like what’s being reported the Trump must be going to find it hard. You surely can’t have a majority of a group who make up just over half the population turn on you and still win big.

Christ, reading how a Democrat voted for Trump because of the inability to afford a house and another voted for Harris because....of the inability to afford a house. Not sure I can take much more of this.

This solid bit of trump fanboi logic made me laugh earlier in the grauniad feed.
"Local businessman John Tomaszewski, 55, had come to the polling place in the aptly named Spring Hope with his wife and daughter, all three of whom voted for Trump. He told a story to illustrate why he is behind the former president
Before Trump entered the White House in 2017 he would buy plywood for the commercial cabinets he produces from China, as it was $15 per sheet cheaper. After Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese goods the sheets were only $4 cheaper and he could afford to buy American plywood."

I'm tuning out until tomorrow. Two more hours of Dragon Age then bed, and hopefully I'll manage to stay away from the news until after work.

You would think this would have been a thing the first time around with the whole 'Grab em by the pussy' bit and now in the years after when he's convicted to be a bit rapey.

Instead, they had women with “Trump can grab me by the pussy” T-Shirts voting for him.

Got to work tomorrow, can't be bothered to stay up late since I know we probably won't even get the final results tonight.
I do hope to wake up to good news though.

That just tells me that he's been told he's losing Philly, and if he's losing Philly that's one of the ways he's basically fucked re: Electoral College votes

Watching a bit of Sky News, and their exit poll had 35% of voters with a primary concern around the "state of democracy". Hopefully that's the risk of Trump, rather than "mah freedoms"

I'm not really in the mood for all this existential dread. Whilst I do think Harris will probably win, the drawn-out angst and turmoil of the next few hours - or, Christ, days - is fraying my nerves.
