These 51/49 elections are just the worst because it ensures the highest number of people possible are unhappy.
It used to be that after a recount or two one would oblige and concede but things are just so bitter now.

The whole registration thing is crazy to me. Foremost that it's a thing at all, but the fact some states ask you to state things like your ethnicity and party affiliation makes it so much more insane.

Until the recent attempted assassinations, I had no idea this was a thing. It's mad. Who you vote for should be between you and the ballot box.

Isnt this how they get to vote for candidates in the primaries?
You can declare yourself a registered voter for one party, vote for the worst possible candidatein the primaries, and then in the main election you vote for the other party who you actually want to win.

Someone should really have told him... But I'm glad they didn't. Worst. Sex. Doll. Ever. (spoiler because it's potentially nasty)

Trump campaign: "HOW DARE BIDEN CALL US GARBAGE (ignore that we called Puerto Rico garbage)" (and that supposedly Biden wasn't even doing that)
Also Trump campaign: "Now watch us heft our guy up a garbage truck"

Remember when a president being old, feeble, and possibly senile was something Republicans were deeply concerned over?

Remember when a president being old, feeble, and possibly senile was something Republicans were deeply concerned over? The faithful would literally shoot themselves and their loved ones for him at this point and those that actually know what they're doing are probably drafting the 25th documents already to install Vance. Besides, as with everything else, it's only bad when they're not the ones doing it...

For a white South African, he seems oddly desperate to be victimised by the government.

Trump doesn't cosplay as a garbage man, he is garbage. He also seems to be using Oxo cubes on his face these days.

Yeah, wtf is going on with his fake tan! Although considering his health, he's probably naturally grey and overcompensating.

Its a real Ross from Friends take on tanning this week. He looks exhausted too, he might genuinely keel over sometime between now and polling day.

Buzz Aldrin supports Trump. So bizarre I knew he was a wrong 'un from that one cameo on Big Bang Theory where he inadvertently demonstrated how big of a prick Howard was being about going to space /s

Just visiting the CNN homepage is enough to get me hyperventilating at the moment, and not in a good way.
Part of me wants it all to be over, and part of me really doesn't if things go the way I'm dreading; in any case, the wait until Tuesday (and the fallout thereafter) is absolutely excruciating.

It's pointless worrying about what you can't control. And even more pointless worrying about what you have no say in whatsoever.

Him getting back in power will not be great. But the world has survived cunts being in power before, it will survive another 4 years of Trump.
(obviously it sucks if you're living in Ukraine though)

Him getting back in power will not be great. But the world has survived cunts being in power before, it will survive another 4 years of Trump. (obviously it sucks if you're living in Ukraine though) The last time he was in power he dismantled every US pandemic response team and we got COVID as an at least indirect result. With the framework established by previous POTUS we would at least have had much better warning and containment, and we could perhaps have avoided it becoming a pandemic at all. And that was only one of his world-affecting fuckups, and with a cabinet of sometimes actually competent people who were actually willing to say no to him. A second Trump term where he's instead surrounded by billionaire pricks, yes-men, idiots and yes-men idiots (or worse yet, Vance in charge with Peter Thiel's hand up his arse like a mitt, signing whatever), combined with his own deteriorating state and with SCOTUS even more compromised, "checks and balances" even more unstable, more hot wars than before and right-wing lunatics on the rise in other countries as well? Yeah, no, the world (at least as we know it now) will have plenty of trouble surviving another term of his (assuming it even stops there, they're already all but shouting that truly fair elections are done if they get power back)... Let's just hope we won't have to find out firsthand whether these worries are unfounded!

I mean, many of the things you mention are domestic issues (for example, supreme court appointments, culture war stuff) that, despite the global hyperventilating about them, do not actually affect the world that much.
Obviously there's reason to be concerned about trade and foreign policy and such. But there's a lot of stuff happening in the world outside of the US election, and much of it will continue regardless of who is currently in power.
And, again, there's nothing we can do about it. So it's better to settle down, be alert, and do the best we can to make the world a better place. Not everything is about America!

Part of me is starting to feel slightly more optimistic the closer we get to it. The Trump campaign has a lot of noisy supporters but all the energy seems to be evaporating. I know he’s polling well but he is acting like he’s on the backfoot, he’s not driving the agenda like in previous elections. Plus he looks like he’s visibly deflating with every public appearance.
His base will hold obviously but there are (fuck knows how) undecided voters in swing states and they’re really the only ones who matter at this point. I’m not sure his increasingly tragic rallies are going to turn them onto him.
Lots of nervous moments and dirty tricks between now and the outcome but I think the undecideds (as voters in general are) are most likely small-c conservatives and that inherent yearning for stability will win out.
