You should probably not rely on social media that’s renowned for shitposters as the primary users as a demographic for a nation.

I hope that holds come November! Besides, voting for not Biden doesn't mean they're bad people. My whole family has some very questionable politics. It's best not to get into it really.

I’ve seen some odd takes in here but that one hits the wall of fame. Forums (whether public or private) and social media are hyper exaggerated and full of attention seekers, trolls and shitposters.
Do you think WWE is real too

Do you think WWE is real too Again. We are talking bout reddit not 4chan or some random forum like "the stormer geek." It is not hyper exaggerated as reddit rules prevent that. The actual situation in america is way worse. Church services for trump, obama the Antichrist Kill the left Hatred for POC being daily thing Naive to think whats on highly regulated forums is as bad as it gets as is exaggerated not the norm.

The apocalypse started literally as soon as my plane touched down. Stewardess got out a Glock and started shooting in the air saying Yee Haw, are there any LEFTIES on the plane? I'll need you to stay on and educate you about America, the rest of you can leave.
My Starbucks order got delayed because the barista got distracted, by the burning effigy of Obama the guy behind me brought in. It's just rampant.

Reddit rules prevent the worst of the worst, but even then most people on there are cosplaying as conservatives. It’s performative shitposting for kicks. And even even then it still represents an exaggerated view of what actually happens in the real world. Gonna play my “I live in one of the reddest states” card one more time.

There's this kind of blocking out the sun, sucking all oxygen out of the room effect that Trump is having on the conversation. People just losing their god damned minds.
Yes, his presidency will probably be terrible in a number of ways. Ukraine will probably be fucked (and maybe Taiwan too), and there's the immigration stuff and all the culture war bullshit.
But I do think it's still possible to overstate how bad it's going to be. Focus on the stuff that's more likely to happen, rather than fantasies about death camps for liberals and black people or whatever.

Also lol at calling Reddit “highly regulated” Haha. R/conservative is as they need to avoid what happened to r/theDonald and similar. It got so censored in last few years. About my other point. Don't know what to say. I have read it far too often to stay sane but they do make more sense than what I read about usa and how actually f up parts of it really are. Proper reports not forum posts. And it's f up.

Not sure why the harsh treatment of user lukasz here. You don't need to be on social media at all to get a sense of the very real division, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, gun worship, Trump idolisation, nascent fascism and theocratic tendencies currently happening in the US. And sure troll social media accounts may represent hyper exaggerated opinions but you see those posts getting hundreds or thousands of likes and the algorithms pushing them to the top, so they're symptomatic of the prevailing culture. Also, they are often coming directly from those in actual power (MTG for example).
(Edited to remove snark.)

I was talking with a guy online recently, who had a real "does not compute" surprised reaction to me saying that I'm a paying subscriber to one of the major news outlets (NYT, if you want to know)
Like it wasn't even a partisan thing. Just a complete amazement that I thought good journalism was a service worth paying for.
It really is quite fucked. I understand wanting to tune out to some extent, and that there's all sorts of problems with big journalistic outlets. But there's a sense of shared reality that feels like it's becoming more fragile by the day.

One of the major driving forces between journalism distrust, angry hot takes and a general dystopian doommongering is that with paid impressions and views, driving anger is exceptionally profitable. While that’s absolutely more of a right wing thing, the left aren’t really blameless here. The news organizations tend to be more reliable and truthful but some of the social stuff is getting weird. There’s a trans woman influencer who presents as very masculine, so has made a sizeable income out of going to restaurants and harassing waitstaff when they accidentally misgender her. She started off as a regular food critic but then went viral when it first happened. And now of course there’s also a whole subset of people trying to get views by stitching everything she does and sharing it on various anti-trans places (like a few “highly regulated” subreddits)
And of course all that leads to this very distorted viewpoint of what reality actually is, and it really doesn’t take much digging to appreciate that the overwhelming majority of people are decent and it’s by far a vocal minority driving most of the nonsense views.

Although a quick glance at any of the newspapers in the UK (moreseo, but not exclusively right-wing) shows that that's always been a thing, and its still pretty common in print. (And I guess GN News, Fox, News, etc..) ...There was a story recently about a farmer in Africa who's gotten a big following posting anti-global warming stuff. I think that and the food critic are good examples of how getting a lot of views can be addictive, and it pushes people to post what gets views, rather than what they actually originally wanted to post, or originally believed. And then it seems sometimes their beliefs get influenced by what's successful for them. I've seen it even with my kids. The content they post now is almost totally different to what they originally wanted to post, mainly because they're copying the things that were more popular. ...I guess the argument is whether most people are actually decent, and it's just the small vocal minority online. Or most people actually share some of those feelings, they just don't usually share them in more face-to-face situations. Answer is probably a complex mix of the two.

The counterpoint to Trumpets being a loud minority is that he got almost 75 mil votes in 2020 (on a ~67% turnout)... And I'd rather not see this election hinge on whether he's alienated/Covid-killed enough of that base to balance out the voters that have been gerrymandered to hell and back and/or are now rejecting Biden on one or two issues (out of hundreds) that they understand on a surface level at best!
On that note, Trump's Father's Day tweet truthing:

I didn’t say Trump voters are a loud minority. That you’ve taken the concept of whether someone’s a decent person or not and translated it to that is half the problem. And yes, the vast majority of people are single issue voters, regardless of whether they’re informed well on the topic or not. That’s a universal truth across the world and not some US specific thing.

😎 for the record, I'm not saying that you equated not-decent people to Trump voters, or that you said Trump voters are a loud minority (and apologies if it came across that way), just dropping my 2¢ on the subject

So sane response should be to hold people responsible for policy of retaliation as criminally responsible for those deaths. Corporate veil cant protect them!

It's pretty amazing that sometimes forgetting stuff is a negative for Biden, but being completely fucking incoherent is somehow a positive for Trump.
