So four years ago exactly the US had just hit 200,000 deaths from covid. How exactly are people less optimistic about the future now than they were 4 years ago?

While Trump was in office people were optimistic for a future without him, now they might be looking at a future with him. Clearly he made people look forward to the future more while in office /s

200k dead only personally affects something like 2 million people. To the other 300 million plus, they're easily forgotten.

Well that's not a callous, "lumping everyone in with the assholes" viewpoint at all... Last I checked, not even the MAGAts have forgotten Trump's horrible COVID handling (including dismantling the US' pandemic response team a year+ before the breakout) and the deaths it resulted in, let alone anyone else! The MAGAts just like it, whereas the not-brainrotted people bash him with it as often as possible, regardless of whether it affected them personally or not...
