By the way, sentencing is on July 11th, four days before the Republican convention... And they put it that late because otherwise it would conflict with his other trial dates.
No, really. That was the Defense's argument, which the judge accepted.
The lawyers of the Republican candidate for POTUS had to beg for a sentencing deferment because of his other, separate, criminal trials.
Let that sink in.

Now that my initial glee over the guilty verdicts has subsided somewhat, I'm back to feeling pretty pessimistic about the whole situation.
In November, this guy's likely to be elected president again... and as much as I'd love to think otherwise, yesterday's events won't do a damn thing to change that.

Yep, he's a full on cult leader now and his army of supporters will double down on backing him and see yesterday's verdict as political censure.
But the issue here is the constitution; there are very few rules on what qualifies to run for and win the presidency and that should now be changed. Except it won't because American lawmakers would prefer it that way.

Come November, there's a good chance he'll be a convicted felon who's on the hook for $85 millions for defaming the woman he sexually assaulted and if he gets in, he's going to pardon himself for being - at best - utterly incompetent in his handling of state secrets. If that's your guy, have at it.

“Meanwhile, about 25% of Republicans said they would be even more likely to vote for Donald Trump if he were found guilty.”
Nutty.

Honestly even something as little as 1-3% of a vote swing (whether that's Trump voters voting for Biden or even just Trump voters/undecideds doing literally anything else other than voting Trump) could easily switch some of the closest swing states to Biden (assuming the Democrats get off their arses and vote)...

Well, yeah.
Unfortunately, a lot of Americans see Trump as their guy regardless of the above; meanwhile, the nuttiest among them see him as their guy because of the above.
If enough of them "have at it" to get the orange-skinned narcissist reelected, it's going to be fucking terrible.

Or as Dead Ringers put it: If they can do this to the Donald, then they can do this to any ordinary American who’s tried to hide hush money payments paid to a porn star to stop her going to the press to blab about the affair they started with her just after the birth of their fifth child by their third wife.

If he does go to prison, just imagine the poor bastard cell mate. Surely that would amount to cruel and unusual punishment?
