Mince pies are truly vile. Almost immoral, actually.

I'd actually much prefer a pie with mince in. And gravy That's what a mince pie is here. Sadly they often have cheese in as well, which make them a bit icky. They call fruit mince pies 'Christmas pies'.

Mince pies are definitely the work of Satan, but they're not his foulest work, which remains Christmas Pudding, which is vile beyond all comprehension.

All of the raisin based Christmas sweet things are brilliant and should be year round Christmas Pudding > Stollen > Christmas Cake > Panettone > Mince Pies > Yule log or whatever I saw that list and I was like "Oh he's listing the very worst things that exist". Then you said they were good. Fuck man.

What's wrong with Christmas pudding? It's just dried fruit and fat.
Mmmm... fat.

Need to buy some mince pies. Whenever I return to the UK the things I start with are cherry bakewells but they’re not really festive.

Just had a Waitrose mini mince pie. Not bad. Good pastry, held up nicely. But because it's a mini, perhaps a bit thick. Filling tasty, but I think I preferred the Lidl filling (pastry not as good though).

Our go-to mince pie is still the Morrison's "Baker's" - the ones that come in the clear plastic tray, rather than a printed cardboard box, but they're just normal shortcrust with a dusting of icing sugar.
We've been eating them since November!

I’ve realised that I hate all Xmas “treats”
Christmas pudding, mince pies, Christmas cake, Yule log, all complete shite
There must be some good Xmas treats other than the obligatory quality street / roses tin

Is it a bit like being a vegetarian, this non-liking of mince pies and so on?
Do all your friends point and laugh at you?

What manner of witchcraft is this - beans that've been baked twice? Beans that've been hitting the bong?

It’s baked beans (Heinz) baked in the oven in a Pyrex dish. Delicious on your Xmas dinner

TIL about baked baked beans!
Does the re-baking process have a material effect on the beans? I can only think it makes them softer and/or drier.

Yeah it breaks them down a bit and they end up as a lovely sweet & spreadable concoction. Lovely

Thanks! I might give them a shot. (Probably after Xmas, though - I dread to think what sort of impact it'll have upon my digestive system, and I can't in good conscience inflict that level of flatulence upon my family.)

I don't mind the occasional mince pie although I'm less than convinced by Mrs Hermits insistence that having wensleydale with them is a good thing and I refuse to try it.

Top of my Christmas food hate list is cranberries. They are fucking disgusting in all forms without exceptions. Only way to make a cranberry vaguely platable is by adding a ton of sugar and even then they unpleasant. They aren't a food. If you ate a handful raw it woild dissolve your tooth enamel like battery acid if you didn't puke first.
Whoever decided these were fit for human consumption was foraging in a hedgerow in the Middle Ages on the verge of starvation and scurvy. Or it was invented by the fucking Victorians who are to blame for all of the most annoying Christmas tradition bollocks.
