Shortcrust mince pies? Superb. Nothing more needs to be said.
Iced mince pies? Maybe one or two per festive season, but they're generally too sweet for my liking.
Filo mince pies? They can do one, but it's more the fault of the bloody filo pastry than anything else.
Fancy mince pies? Variable - the Heston ones from Waitrose are nice, but the ones with salted caramel etc. are gross.

Weirdly though, I adore proper xmas cake, love mince pies, and I've never been big on xmas pudding, despite them all seemingly using the same ingredients. I'd usually just push the pudding around the plate while overdosing on Brandy Butter.

There's a bigger issue than mince pies at play at the moment anyway. It's that time of the year when any snack you try to get is a potential landmine as it was "supposed to be for Christmas". I'm sat eating a tub of Jacob's Treeselets by the fistful at the minute and I get the feeling I'm going to spend the next 3 days getting 1 kiss text messages when the Mrs gets home from work and finds out. Fuck. We've gone through a good 4 or 5 Twiglets tubs bit I'd forgotten about Treeslets. On the list. |
