Looking forward to the new campaign. Maybe I should look into fixing this stuttering problem though. Got a new 6600 XT, and while performance is great in every other game, Destiny 2 seems to stutter more than it did before. Guess I'll try and see if a bit of DDU helps. Maybe it just needs to rebuild the proper shaders. Have you increased settings at all? Your CPU may be struggling. I thought so too at first, but then I noticed something - after updating my video drivers, the game just ran the same. On my previous RX 480, upon a driver update, the game was basically unplayable for a few minutes and then turned smooth (well, as smooth as a RX 480 allowed). Now, that doesn't happen anymore, and the game stutters whenever some new asset comes up. Sounds like shader compiling issues to me. I don't know why things should have changed though. Maybe it depends on the GPU drivers. Problem is, I liked the old method better. I just had to wait five or six minutes in the inventory screen, and then everything was fine. Oh well... given D2 is repetitive by its very nature, it doesn't hurt as much as in a single player game that is once and done. It won't take me long to see every asset in the game, then I'll be fine (until the next update). Still, wish I could go back to the old method. Does it depend on the GPU or the game? Pretty handy recycling of Deep Stone Crypt assets again this week. Enjoyable end mission, amusing bait in the cutscene. Liked the mission, reminded me of the Witch Queen legendary campaign. At first I thought it felt geared towards a fireteam, but it was very doable solo too. Also, even though it was obviously an assets recycle, I did enjoy that arrangement of the Security Breach music.

I’m now running a powerhouse upgrade of a 960 GTX. Only after upgrading my CPU a year later have I been able to whack pretty much everything up to full. The CPU was a massive bottleneck

I think D2 depends a lot on both GPU and CPU.
As an example, with my Ryzen 3600 and RX 480, I used to get 45-50fps in the Tower area. Dropping the resolution even as far down as 540p didn't help any, so I thought it must have been a CPU bottleneck. Now I've upgraded to a 6600 XT while still keeping the same CPU, and lo and behold, the Tower now runs at 60fps.
I guess nowadays the rendering pipeline is such that resolution only counts so far.
But i also did get a massive boost in some Forsaken areas when upgrading from a 1500X to a 3600, so yeah, the CPU is important too.

First off, apologies again to Oz for being a fucking shambles during that shattered throne run. Was trying to finish a wooden countertop for a job while getting my neighbor’s asshole dog inside. Then, bring a year or two since I last okayed that dungeon, couldn’t remember where to go.
Had a good day for exotics. Got Cloudstrike clearing out a Europa quest to make room for Tuesday. Than the lost sector boots on my first run.
Really getting fully back into the game. Started using LFG and have had good luck so far.
Excited for Lightfall and all the new stuff

No worries. Was bugged to hell anyway, got the Solo triumph after we finished with a full fireteam of three. Yeah.

I've managed to solve my framerate problem somehow (frankly I have no idea why updating the mobo bios just sent me from 50fps to 100fps, but who am I to complain?). Looking forward to Lightfall indeed. And also Season of Defiance, though I know that the expansion season is always bad.
But this will be the first time in a year when I'll actually have the time to get into the game proper. Last four seasons I didn't buy the season pass and never even got past rank 70 or so.

Eh, first season last year was pretty good. Sounds like they're doing basically the same again; more battlegrounds.

I'm kinda hoping they don't go overboard with the whole making the game harder thing. I enjoy a challenging campaign and a good Nightfall as much as the next guy, but there are also times when I want to be able to sit down, relax, and blast everything in sight with ease. And I don't wanna have to go in patrol zones to do that.
Then again, it should be fine as long as enemies don't become bullet sponges.

It amazes me how long they phoned the story stuff in for. They've cobbled together something special from the absolute cluster fuck of meandering bullshit it was before they introduced the Pyramid ships and set themselves on when it was going to end.

The trailer really delivers the goods. I agree, I’ve a feeling that by Final Shape there will be loud noises made to hand out all kinds of rewards to the writing team that has and continues to turn the steaming turd of D1 storyline into something meaningful and impactful

Most of the complaints are from reddit, and that sub is famous for basically being full of people who are fucking awful at the game.

Patch notes are starting to come out, in advance of tomorrow's update (which is available to download now, a whopping 82GB).
Among others, I see the game now supports Nvidia Reflex, so I'm hoping there are other technical additions too.
Edit: looks like the update brought the size of the game down from 100Gb to 87GB.

Aye. I get in late on Tuesdays anyway, so by the time I get around to downloading the whopper of an update I'm hoping it'll be somewhat stable, but not holding my breath.
Never plan anything for day 1 of a big Destiny update.

So this should be available now, right? Guess it won't hurt to try to login in spite of the inevitable server woes.
If I'm to be randomly kicked off the servers while I've almost finished a legendary campaign mission, so be it.

Queues sound pretty horrific on Reddit. People who've only just gotten in now 80 minutes later.
Bloody glad this fell on a commuting day, as I'd probably have wasted time trying too.

Managed to get in after about twenty minutes of queue. Still, once in, I managed to play for 90 minutes with no issues, and only stopped for dinner time. That's an improvement over the usual state of affairs.
Got through the first mission (pretty long actually), took care of the new mods, etc. Lots to take in at the moment.

Seems OK so far. Played through the first mission, then decided to try it on legendary and it wasn't too bad at all apart from a couple of spicy moments. The new NPCs seem a bit rubbish.
The mod changes are going to take a bit of getting used to. Artifact mods not needing to be slotted is fantastic, though! The journey is a great change too. Nice to have specific goals to work towards.

I've played quite a bit tonight. That's good. Servers have been stable. Three missions in, so far the legendary campaign is slightly harder than Witch Queen imo. Still, definitely going to solo it to the end. Getting free banners for checkpoints is very nice. Neomuna is a bit annoying to get around in, though.
First impressions of the system changes are positive enough. Not having to equip artifact mods is great, and they have finally streamlined most armor mods. On the other hand, many of the armor charge mods seem de-powered in comparison to the old ones (did they really need to take away Powerful Friends?). Titan Strand super is an absolute beast, but I'm not really feeling the Tarzan mode instead of grenades.
As for the Journey system, it's nice to have, but level 7 seems easy enough to get, while I'll never get past it since level 8 requires raids and dungeons.
The commendation system seems somewhat limited - if you only touch the playlist activities, you will only ever get to use two or three types of cards.

Played a lot this morning too (it helps that I'm on forced vacation, so to speak, for the entire month).
Despite what they said about the overall difficulty level going up a bit, basic playlist activities (Vanguard, Dares, etc) are not really any harder. I did notice the Insight Terminus boss now has a three-phases health bar, but it works exactly the same as before so I think it's just a cosmetic change.
Anyway, I'm close to 1760, so I should be able to try a Hero Nightfall and see if it's any different.
Oh, and everyone I've seen so far has been rank 6, meaning there aren't many new players around. Sometimes I wonder if a F2P, season pass-financed game is really sustainable without a steady influx of new players.

Destiny is an absolutely awful game for new players and if the want new ones they will pretty much have to make destiny 3.
It's even a pain for returning players.

The commendation system seems pretty pointless btw, at least for basic activities. You get to give out two cards (which have to be different for some reason), so for strikes, you may as well just give one to each player (or you might skimp out, but why not show some humane decency?). Usually at random, since I can't be bothered to remember who did what.
The annoying part is that there's a journey triumph tied to getting something like 750 commendation points. It's not that high, I think (not sure how the formula works, after 10 given and 6 received I'm at 31 points), but how quickly it goes will depend on the other players cooperating and giving you commendations too.
I think I liked Vanguard Boons better.

Purely based on the mood on Reddit this expansion's story feels like a pretty big swing and miss so far. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Nimbus and the other guy are absolutely terrible characters. Poorly introduced and they just feel like they're in the wrong game. Your home planet is under attack and you're jumping around the place like a hyperactive ninja turtle...

One of the new characters is pretty goofy to say the least, and even as a D2 vet I still keep saying:' What am I supposed to be doing?'.
Only played a couple of story missions, but getting one shot on patrol was a shock!
Need 80 more light before I can compete with the 1730 grunts, which seems silly design for the initial planetary experience?

Yeah, four missions in, and the story is pretty shit. The fate of humanity is at stake and people are worried about Osiris being grumpy. The new characters are just Totally Radical Cayde and Tall Sean Connery. I'm not sure why the Witness is not just destroying everything while we are wasting time on a distant planet. Also, as I imagined from a free season, the seasonal story gives me inconsequential vibes. Not sure why I have to care about Crow acting cringe. The campaign is at its best when it involves Calus, but maybe I just enjoy this new take on Calus as a cartoon villain. That said, the missions have been good fun so far. Fighting Tormentors is a bit more annoying than fighting Hive Lightbearers, but maybe I'll try switching to a shotgun instead of a fusion rifle, since they seem much more resistant to body shots. For what it's worth, I think you are supposed to finish the campaign first. I'm already at 1750 (the new blue cap, I think) without really doing much other than four legendary story missions and a couple seasonal battlegrounds. Gear levels increases very quickly, and I do think it would be easier if they just do away with it for the final expansion.

Did the campaign on Legendary in one sitting. Was far easier than Witch Queen until the mother of all cheap ass final bosses. Story was a big letdown, some of the things they went out of their way to not explain were absolutely baffling for a penultimate DLC.
Strand feels decent in the campaign and then you unlock it for reals and suddenly the cooldowns on simple abilities like traversal take well over a minute and it's dog shit. No doubt to add 'balance' to a PvP mode 3 people still care about. and loads of old mods have been gutted out so previous builds are now pretty lame.
This feels like such a missed opportunity in the narrative and a huge step backwards in the meat of the game. I was all for the game being made a bit more difficult but it feels early on like its come at the cost of having fun. I can see some of this stuff being rolled back along with Bungie's bi-annual "We got it wrong" vidoc.
