We gave up at 4.30 after nearly closing out encounter 3 multiple times.
We had to do the first encounter 3 times to get that fucking door to open a bit further on. We lost our best hours to connection problems really. 2nd boss wasn't too bad at all, an Aldi Shuro Chi really. The DPS just needed optimising a bit in contest mode.
Was good fun but the last few hours I just wanted to go to bed more and more and I feel ill as fuck this morning. It's a bit too much for me.

The 4th room in the third encounter is a bitch.

I can see this one going the Garden of Salvation route of no one bothering to play it because it involves everyone being active in the mechanics. That and having like 25 symbols to call out from. It just seems purely made to be a day 1 race gameplay wise.
Shame as it's really interesting aesthetically and there are huge lore implications inside.

Just almost got to final stand.
This is a fucking great raid imo. Some BS aside.

Damn, I hope you slept a bit. They prolonged the contest mode by 24 hours so there should be plenty of time.

I'm fucked today.
I'm a little bit gutted the connection issues happened. I think we'd have nailed the 3rd encounter if we'd got that 2-3 hours of pissing around back. I'm too tired to carry it on today I think.
Still less than 500 completions out there. The DPS checks on the bosses seem to be the main issue people are having. We absolutely pummeled Caretaker in every phase and probably got him 0.1s before we were due to wipe.
I say DPS check, it's more like ammo box drop check. If you don't get a couple of kind greens/purples at the right time you're in trouble even if the rest of it is going fine.

Might be a good time to use one of those heavy/special ammo finishers. As long as you can spare the super energy.

Yeah it's a good shout.
The thing that turned the tide for us on Caretaker was using a decent primary in case of ammo depleting. At first the vast majority were running Witherhoard/Null Composure/LFR or Auto Loading Rockets which was magic for add clear but the reliance on Special ammo made it too tight towards the last phase. Once a few of us put Outbreaks on it really helped us chip away at that little bit of his health bar we were missing out on.

Ha, you deserve an emblem just for sticking it out so long.
On the bright side even if you don't get him down in contest mode, you'll absolutely clap him as soon as Normal mode launches. Probably find encounter 3 harder.

So now the raid has released, I'm happy sticking my neck out and saying this is the best Destiny expansion ever.
New Raid isn't quite as epic as Last Wish in terms of encounters and I have doubts many people will get through it or ever repeat it if they do, although I've really enjoyed what I've played of it personally. But the way it has expanded the lore is wild, and establishing Disciples as a thing gives them the perfect way to make Raid bosses important enough to make killing them a big deal, but not putting primary antagonists in there away from main campaigns.
Also, putting a mission in the raid area once world's first had been cleared is a masterstroke. I don't think it's fair that people who can't raid for whatever reason get locked out of these absolutely fantastic locations, so giving them access to that is a brilliant idea in my book and hopefully the norm going forward. It would have been criminal for people not to get to go in there, implications being what they are in there lore wise.

Is there already some video that explains what new lore the raid had?

I'm casting my mind back and I think I'd rate this raid as one of the weaker ones, gameplay wise. Visuals and stuff, amazing. Everything else is a very mixed bag: - Approach to the raid was fun but ruined by anteater shit and we had to get a checkpoint from Ruthless for which I am very thankful
- Encounter 1 was great fun to work out but will probably just be a fairly dull symbol reading exercise without contest
- Encounter 2 is almost great, but the second floor ruins it
- Encounter 3 is a mess in contest and probably really easy otherwise
- Encounter 4 is a buggy mess that is just far too bloody long
If you're going to make enemies have attacks that insta kill you in your day one raid boss fight you should fucking well make sure that the animations actually play when they do them, or don't glitch out and say the shot is going one place and then fire in another. Also half the raid just amounts to "here's some symbols, memorise their names or what they look like, or play spot the difference or something". There's not a lot actually mechnically interesting going on in hindsight. The closest it comes to building on mechanics as the raid goes by is some of the spot the difference stuff.

I get the feeling that gallery type room with all the symbols you can interact with near the start may be like a Wish Wall V2. There were also a couple of named rooms we found that serve no purpose to the raid. I feel there will be a few things found once Normal mode allows more people in to discover stuff.

I have no idea what just happened there!
I do like that it's an active boss, rather than something that just stands there like a lemon and eats damage when you get to that phase. May need a bit of refinement though if it's an idea that continues beyond this raid.
I'd imagine Contest has a lot to do with it too. Probably a lot less fuck-this-bullshit on Normal.

It does seem to take fucking forever between phases though. I kept dipping in and out of your stream yesterday and at times I honestly couldn't tell whether you were on the same run since I'd last checked or not.

I think the server and clients are disagreeing on where the boss is facing. The preview is probably triggered on the the client based on the boss' local position and rotation. But the damage is maybe server authoritative and if the server things the boss has a different position or rotation it sends the beams out from where it thinks the boss *should* be. Which is why you see him teleport sometimes as well.

Teamed up for an hour this afternoon with some folks from general LFG because we had a few available and willing to give it a shot for a little while. We had some new, more consistent strats and just couldn't quite get over the line. Gutted really BUT having had a fair shake at this strat I can be 100% sure that even without the BS we wouldn't have got it yesterday - the DPS is fucking insanely tight, even with our really optimal DPS strats.

Should have tried Telesto, it probably 1-shots him.
Balance was probably just a little bit off on this contest. Even the guys always front-running these races found the DPS check to be a bastard on Rhulk. I knew after just us barely beating Caretaker and reading comments on the DPS check to come that it probably wasn't worth investing stupid time into the later encounters. Still nice to conquer a few encounters completely blind. Good fun.

As expected Rhulk is a pushover without contest mode, lol. You can just tank everything easily.

I'll always fondly remember our made up Day 1 callouts of 'Big Brain', 'Brain Soup' and 'Japan'. It amazing that absolute made up bollocks made crystal clear sense to the 6 of us.

Oh and I can't forget the Enter symbol, which someone designated 'Elf' because it apparently looked like an elf's hat.

Some of ours included "praise the sun", "Sam Fisher", "assassin's creed".
Apparently in Japan a lot of people are calling the savathun one "DLC" lol
