PC gamers have had it easy for a while now. A 10-series had been more than adequate for a long time, particularly if you are just at 1080p. I'm sure that the issues getting new consoles in people's hands during the pandemic and the chip shortages meant that the cross-gen period was extended longer than was expected. If a developer needs to have the PS4 and Xbox One specs in mind when developing, then a card like the 1070 is going to have absolutely no problem.
It always happens when a new console gen gets fully established, normally a couple of years after release, that the PC requirements get a noticeable bump and a lot of people need to play catch-up. It's just happened a year later than it would normally. Requiring a 5 year old card to play the latest AAA game shouldn't really be that much of a surprise to people. Plus, anyone getting a decent 30-series or any 40-series now is likely to be good until the next consoles land and probably for another a year or two after that.

Thinking of anisotropic filtering I wish devs used it in console games. It's not as if it's an expensive thing. It's just bizzare to have all these ultra detailed environments and characters and then have the world look like soup 3 metres in front of you.

Price increases driven by demand due to crypto and AI use cases, with a heavy dose of fuck you, led to Nvidia increasing their prices insam8for this gen, which made this all the more painful. There'd be a lot lass narkiness I think if the 40 series were mostly cost 4 figures retail.

I can't even imagine how expensive the 50 series is going to be.

It's that age old question, does this game need to look like this to tell it's story or to pull of this gameplay? Probably not. I can only speak for myself, but the eye-candy in Control or RE:Village really helps me get immersed, I'd regularly just stop and look at stuff. I think it works especially well in spooky games.

I can't even imagine how expensive the 50 series is going to be. Wouldn't be surprised if they are cheaper. Nvidia will knock the prices down by £50-£100 and everyone will celebrate. Only problem will be that the 40-series cards are overpriced by a lot more than £100. The 4080, for example, had an RRP £400 more than the 2080 super that I previously had (I ended up just going for a 4090 - exactly as Nvidia no doubt wanted me to do). Each card should have an RRP that matches the card below it - 4090 at 4080 price, 4080 at 4070Ti, and so on. I expect Nvidia based their pricing on the DLSS 3 performance and hoped people wouldn't notice. Only problem with that is a lot of games don't support it.

Ultimately they're worth what people will pay for them today. Be interesting to know if Nvidia's pricing has impacted the sales of this generation,.or if it's just a vocal minority online losing their shit.

They're worth it also as NVIDIA have dominated the conversation when it comes to technological advances and AMD don't really have an answer other than more VRAM and strong rasterisation capability. They obviously know this as that's why they can charge what they do and people still fork over stupid money.

They took a huge bet on this AI stuff though. When the 20 series launched in 2018 it wasn't obvious at all that this was how it was going to pan out.

I’m getting pretty excited now at participating in the second waking of Alan.
I’m considering sitting at the end of his bed until he stirs and then saying “I just love watching you sleep”.
Did that once to a friend at uni digs. 20+ yrs later and he still hasn’t forgotten/forgiven me. Totally worth the 20mins before he realised I was there and nearly jumped out of bed half way across the room!
A different form of friends with benefits!

If you love wielding a torch in an investigative yet ghostly defensive fashion just play it already.
If you are less likely to enjoy the utilisation of a light stick and are not enamoured by repetitive combat and laborious player movement then don’t bother just opt for the new shiny!

Remedy do love their internal monologue
So if she can't see you in the light, would shining the torch on yourself not make you invisible to her?

So if she can't see you in the light, would shining the torch on yourself not make you invisible to her? Depends whether you’re in a cardboard box or not. And if you are in a box are you really there? Or is she really there? And did that bear defecate in that wood? Because she never tread in bear sh*t while escaping that cabin in that wood. ”Turn off internal monologue” may be required as an accessibility option!

10/10 from GameSpot. 9/10 from IGN. No review yet from Push Square, but theirs is coming soon. 1/10 for "Alan Woke" from GB News. One of the above may not be real.

Goddamnit. I'll probably have to get this now. Interesting that the PC version specifically is sitting at 96%, which hopefully suggests a polished release despite the beefy requirements.

"Alan Wake II delivers one of the boldest and most brain-bending survival-horror storylines this side of Silent Hill 2"
Don't do this to me.

I’m very much on board with this.

I'm playing Baldur's Gate which is probably the best fame I've played in half a decade, but still very tempted to take a break for this. It sounds brilliant based on the few I've read now. Wish it unlocked at midnight.

Ohhhhhhhhh yea, had a feeling this was going to be a bit of a triumph, I stupidly bought the phantom liberty yesterday but I think with the season that's in it I'm going to treat myself to this tomorrow!
