Being survival horror is probably a good move. As much as I enjoyed the original and the remaster its very much a straight corridor for 99% of the gameplay so hopefully this adds some exploration and more jeopardy than just being mobbed and blindsided in every single encounter.
My one big wish is that they add more open investigative/narrative content between the night/horror sections. That was something that felt like such a natural fit for the premise from the start but you only ever got 5 minutes of walk and talk before another trip to the woods.

I found the downside of Game Pass with AW. Started it in Nov 19, didn't click so put it on back burner.
Fast forward through 2020, I got the Remedy bug, played through Quantum Break and Control which I both loved loads (cleaned up QB but couldn't bring myself to do all of Control base game + DLC), so went back to AW which I suddenly "got". Got maybe 2/3 through before one day I switch on and find out it's been removed.
Remastered comes out a few months after but I'm too stubborn to buy it/disc version of original so hoping it comes to GP eventually (in time for 2 to come out maybe?)
Agree it could do with being more open, maybe multiple smaller hubs for tighter/more "designed" horror aspects but more flexibility than the corridor of the first.

The Remaster was £25 at launch so I can’t imagine it being too long from landing on Gamepass or the price dropping hard

Ooooooooh the original is definitely one of my all time favourite games. Loved the add on as well.

If the voice actor is correct he let slip the game releases in October.

I wonder if they'll still use the same nope-this-door-is-closed rattling sound that they already used waaaaaay back in Max Payne 1.

"There are many reasons for this," the developer explained. "For one, a large number of have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft's Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only." It also argued "not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99/€59.99 and the PC version at $49.99/€49.99", and insisted it "did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game".
Shame as I would have liked the possibility of a collectors edition(still have the one they did for the first game) but with this I'm simply happy it's getting made.

Would rather a disc release normally but tbh a game like this I'll probably be happy to buy either way. It's normally only games I'm not 100% on I grab on disc so I can sell on or trade. If this is as good as AW 1 or Control then I won't be getting rid anyway.

How can not releasing a disc version keep the price down? The disc version is always the cheaper way to buy a game due to the price gouging of digital releases. I smell bullshit here.
Still buying it though, I love Alan Wake. Bought the Alan Wake remaster on release for about £7 digitally on Xbox. VPN is your friend!

Probably because they don't have to pay upfront for pressing and distribution, which must drive the overall price up.
I'm fond of physical as it's still often the cheapest way to get new games. Feels like we're not too far away from £70 digital being the only option for a new release, though.

£21 on the Turkey PSN store. Even cheaper on a Turkish Epic account for PC I believe but no idea how to access that.

If you are on Xbox, you can get foreign keys from sites like Eneba and Gamivo for a LOT cheaper and then redeem them on your account using a VPN. Works out much cheaper than physical.
I got Elden ring on release day for £33, Resi 4 for about £42.
Other games a few years old can be picked up for a few quid. You can pick up Alan Wake Remastered for somewhere between £3-£4 currently.
If anyone on Xbox wants instructions how to do this, I wrote some previously for hotukdeals and I can post them here.

People often pay less for the physical version, system holder controls the online store and you kill the second hand market. Digital sales allow them to see more of the money from every copy sold.

Don't they also have to pay the console makers money for the discs?

Finally got around to playing the AWE DLC for Control this week. Found the first DLC to be a little underwhelming, but this one was a lot of fun. No idea if it offers any hints about what is to come with Alan Wake 2*, but think it is worth playing if you like Alan Wake and it serves as a nice little way to get a bit more hyped for it. * only thing might be that the FBC agent referenced in the closing cutscene could appear. There is also mention during that cutscene that they detect something happening in Bright Falls, but the date is 2 years away, so the game could be set in 2021, if they stick with that.

With the Alan Wake tien in DLC with Control, can you jump straight into that or do you have to get a certain point in the game?

If I remember rightly you have to get past a certain point.
8 or 9 main missions.

Wow, October is mad. Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, Mario Wonder and Metal Gear Solid all out around the same time. All likely would have been day one purchases for me if they were a bit more spread out. Lords of the Fallen and Assassin's Creed Mirage could be great too. I bounced off Cities Skyline the first, but I'm sure the sequel will be solid too.

After mission seven apparently but it's best you finish the main storyline first and probably some or all of the sides. You'll want the ability points before starting AWE, as it can be quite tricky iirc.

I don't know if I can be arsed replaying the whole thing again despite loving it. Unless my ps4 save is in my cloud storage. That would be a touch.

The first game is one of my favourites so I'm amazed I only knew a few days ago this was coming out in October. I knew it was in development but was thinking a year+ away. Result. Might actually buy a game.

I really enjoyed the story and world design of the first game, but the gameplay sucked. I really felt the story ended at the end of that game though; the dlc and extra thing they did couldn’t really add much, that egg was cracked already.
I’m pretty keen to see how they might get a new story out of this (given there’s no mystery about the situation to entice players along) but given they’ve had (15 years?) a long time to develop the story… or hopefully it’s actually fun and varied to play now so the story won’t have to carry it.
