I dont know about the gameplay still, but can't fault the graphics and atmosphere. It looks and sounds incredible, particularly the rain.

I can't remember the last time I bought a full price game. (I went twos on elden ring, gotg, diablo 4). I think this will be the first game this gen I pay full price solo. Game pass has me spoilt.

I had read that this game has full path tracing like Cyberpunk. Definitely shows.

So many games coming out that I want in the next few months. This is the only one I’m getting on release though. Remedy won me over completely with Control and made me reappraise and really enjoy the first AW. So this is a no brainier. Looks fucking amazing.

Love that even in extended gameplay they're holding back on what they reveal, even the combat itself. If it was another dev other than Remedy, I'd find that worrying.
I've waited so long for this, tempted to do a media blackout from this point

I'm not sure remedy have made a game with amazing combat since Max Payne. I enjoy their games for the experience but they aren't really anything special to play.

I like that the mechanics themselves are always at least a little unique and interesting on paper, but I for the most part do find the actual implementation of them pretty much as you (Frog) describe.
The bullet time stuff in Max Payne though, different story. Whilst they didn't invent the premise, it was so satisfying to do. Looked astounding in the first 2, too.

The combat in Alan Wake was fine for chapter one, but then there was zero variety to it. Flashlight a man, shoot him. They promised all this darkness / light mechanics but it was just this one idea.

Max Payne has aged better than the first Alan Wake, though. I’d believe that. Never played Max Payne, but Lan Wake’s combat was surprisingly under-developed by any standard at the time. I wa surprised by it, and it damaged the game a great deal. Story was great, graphics were great etc, but once you knew the story there was no reason to put yourself through it again for a second playthrough. my recollection is they scrapped the entire (open world) game they’d touted and started over, which could explain why the story and tech was so well-developed but the game pretty basic… maybe they spent so much time building the open world they forgot enemy variety n stuff.

Been a while since I played it but quantum break had horrible controls if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure that's what made me dump the game.

The combat never bothered me in the first game, although I know it is a common complaint. Certainly not as good as Max Payne and could have mixed things up more regularly, but the core of it always felt fine to me.
Quantum Break always felt off to me though. There was something sluggish about it, as if it wasn't running well. Control had them back on form, so I'm not too concerned about AW2's combat.
Variety is what I would like to see. More location types is a big one, with the woodlands of the first game getting tedious by the second half of the first game. More variety with the combat scenarios too, such as more bits like the concert section. Remedy keep getting better at set pieces though, so looking forward to seeing what they will do.

Remember a lot of people trying to play QB as a cover shooter. Really enjoyed the game and would say it's technically more impressive than control.
The crashed ship segment is fantastic.

Well tbf, the game had waist high cover that was encouraging you to play it as a cover shooter. I even remember a specific section where you were being targeted by snipers that was telling you to use cover. I don't think the players were at fault here. And the less said about the bullshit last boss the better.

And the less said about the bullshit last boss the better. It has areas to hide behind but many tried to play it like Gears. It was all about running and using the powers. The last boss more so than ever. Try and stay in one area and you won't last(especially on hard). But keep moving and the guys a push over.

As much as Remedy loves old noir stories, really surprised they don’t set a whole game in the 1930s. Though I guess Rockstar beat them to it. Also maybe last comment on Quantum Break, everyone remembers Lance Reddick from Horizon, first video game I saw him was Quantum Break! Also Littlefinger, Iceman, and the lady from Control.

They were massive you downloaded them, but I didn’t have problems streaming them in HD quality. That saved something crazy like 75Gb on video alone.

Yeah pretty sure its over 100GB for them all?.
I did like that you could play one audio file and it would change one of the live action scenes. But other than that very forgettable stuff.
