MP4 looks ok, though it does look very similar to MP1 etc... (is that a surprise? Good thing? Bad thing?)
New Zelda game: Like the idea of Zelda as a protagonist, but not sure about the core gameplay mechanic as it seems like it'd mean less satisfying puzzles and combat. I still really want a proper co-op zelda.

A Zelda game as Zelda, Mario & Luigi, Mio and Metroid. Fucking. Prime. 4. The combat section is like cool, more of the same, I wasn't expecting anything different. But it's that last part of the trailer, showing the environment and the music. I cannot wait.

New Zelda game with actual Zelda could be great, but the copying items mechanic didn't look quite as exciting as they were making it sound. "You can use a table to get up high. Why not copy some boxes to get up high. Oh and duplicate water so you can swim... up high..."
Lots in the direct for RPG fans. I do like an RPG and JRPG is a genre that has mostly passed me by, so even the remakes will be new to me and I could be interested, if I have the time to sink into them. New Metroid will please a friend of mine, who begs for it every direct. Definitely think it looks like it will be a cross gen game and I have feeling it will very much be best played on a Switch 2.
Kind of my problem with a lot of these announcements really. Until I know the situation with the new Switch, I'm reluctant to buy anything that is coming out 6 months or so before it is available. If they release new versions of games coming out now that I will have to buy again then I'm just going to wait.

I was hoping for Prime 2 remastered to keep me going (although I suppose I can just play it on steam Deck whenever I want). At least 4 isn't too far away now, hopefully close to or launching alongside the Switch successor. It all looked a bit too busy to me. Didn't really get a proper look at what the space pirates were fighting, but I have a sinking feeling it'll be more like MP2/3 with the chatty galactic federation rather than MP1 and being alone on an alien planet.

Pretty impressed. Just a bit of a shame that in Zelda and more so M & L Iām not too crazy on the graphical styles but Iāll reserve judgement for release versions šš

And Metroid is a switch 2 game anyway.

At this point I'd happily take a Switch 2 just to play first party Nintendo games at 60fps again. Or in the case of 3D top-down Zelda, even just a locked framerate would be nice.
Nintendo used to be the kings for having solid performance in their games (N64 notwithstanding) but the Switch hardware is really dated at this point and I'm about two years beyond ready for a BEEFIER version.

And Metroid is a switch 2 game anyway. If Link's Awakening is anything to go by, performance on Echoes of Wisdom will be mediocre and inconsistent. I would hope you could play it on the Switch 2 without any issues. I would also hope that you could run a version bought on a Switch 1 on the Switch 2 and have improved performance without having to re-buy it (or for a nominal fee), but I'm not going to trust Nintendo will actually do that until they officially confirm how any of it will work. And if it is shown in this Direct then that is confirmation that there will be a Switch 1 version of Metroid Prime 4. I would assume with a 2025 date that the Switch 2 will also be out or about to come out and it will be available for both, but that is just an assumption at the moment. Switch 2 might not be out until Christmas 2025 with MP4 releasing long before it, for all we know.

They would be crazy to not make it a Switch 2 release. Unless Switch 2 is likely running late into 2026.

This might sound weird but for me the game of the direct was Nintendo World Championships. I don't speed run personally (only Factorio), but I've got into the scene somewhat over the past couple of years. I think it's amazing that Nintendo has embraced it so fully with this release.
I'm looking forward to watching some of the biggest speed runners go head to head.

The question about this and any other game that gets an enhanced Switch 2 version is whether you will have to re-buy it, pay a nominal fee to upgrade or get the improved version no matter which edition you buy. Until I know what path they take, I don't really feel encouraged buying anything for Switch, particularly first party/partner games.

At this point I wouldn't be buying any first party Nintendo game that's being released soon without getting all the information about the new console.

Which is why Nintendo are annoyingly coy about going public on the thing. 7 years I've had my bloody switch, still love it but it's on its last legs in every sense.

Very late to the comments, as I wanted to watch it all first, but that was a rather good presentation. That new Zelda looks great. Iām glad they went for something new! Outside of the two Switch games, Iām not a huge fan of 3D Zelda, so Iām actually relieved it was something other than Wii U ports. I would have taken remakes of any of the portable games, but this is even better.
Also, we didnāt need another Mario Party game, but Jamboree looks rather great. The online mode with 20 players looks like it could be a riot. I think thatāll go on the shopping list for Christmas.
Mio was the best of the 3rd party stuff. It looks beautiful and it seems to play a lot like Hollow Knight. Very quick, precise movement. Could be excellent.
The Dragon Quest remakes, Iāll have them all. Besides looking stunning, they are going to be a much more reasonable length for me.
And then as for Metroid Prime 4, I find it hard to believe it will look like that on Switch. Those environments were small, but visually that was quite a step up from the remake we had last year. A lot of effects going off at once. Thatās certainly a sneak peak at our next-gen console there.
Overall, a great show. I was even tempted by the Mario and Luigi game, although Iāve not played a single one of them before. Maybe not though. Thereās still so much to play as it is.

dangerousdave from the Mario & Luigi games I'd say that you should at the very least try out Bowser's Inside Story and probably also Superstar Saga, if you're interested in the series. Not that the rest of the series is bad, per se, but those two were the strongest entries IMO (and judging by the fact that they were the ones that got remakes, presumably Alphadream agreed)

The new Zelda game was the highlight of the Direct for me, as I have never been a huge fan of 3d Zelda games. Also interested in Mario & Luigi despite having several still to start on the 3ds.

I've not played the last Zelda because of this. It was a bit jarring coming from a Series X, so figured I'd save it for Switch2. That said, if Nintendo force you to re-buy for that upgrade it'll be rather disappointing.

A load of these games are incredible for a console at the end of its lifespan however being relatively close to the the Switch 2 being properly announced will mean I'll just wait and see what they plan to do with these older titles before I hit the buy button.

Seems like yet another "wait for the switch 2 to see how it performs" release to me. It'd need some serious paring back of visuals to run on the switch.

dangerousdave before I forget, if you do decide to check out the Mario & Luigi series, you probably should play Superstar Saga before Bowser's Inside Story (whether you skip Partners in Time or not). I won't go too in-depth as to why, but BIS will hit a bit harder if you do ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Apparently some idiots on the internet are levelling accusations of wokeness that Nintendo have Zelda as the main playable character.
I would like to level accusations of Neanderthalness in response and other phrases Iāll skip.

Thought it was a solid Direct - new Zelda looks great, and we play a lot of Mario Party with the kids so that's a day 1 for us. Metal Slug Attack Reloaded looks intriguing too. Metroid looked great and I do think it'll be a cross-gen release, but then I worry if it will be hampered by the Switch1 hardware.
It's impressive what Nintendo can get out of their ageing hardware though. Some of the other reveals looked (visually) very basic, but just after I'd been thinking how far off they looked from SeriesX/PS5 titles, out comes Zelda and even if it was basic (and slightly stuttery), looked utterly gorgeous.

Digital Foundry has a nice little video on Luigiās Mansion 2. Itās not as good looking as the third game, but it looks like a really good port. If you enjoyed the 3rd game on Switch, Iād strongly recommend this one. Itās the better game, for sure. It has a more intricate and complex level design, and the mission-based structure better suits shorter bursts of play.
It wasnāt initially on my radar, as Iād played it on 3DS back in the day, but I remember now that I stupidly sold my 3DS and all the games I owned a few years back. This is one of those games Iād normally hold onto forever, even if I donāt plan to revisit it. Just in case.

How are the Luigi's Mansion games?
My son really wanted one a couple of years ago, but we never got it and he kinda forgot about it. The gameplay always looked very basic to me (though I've only seen a little in trailers). Is it more than 'walk around and shine a light on ghosts'?
