Nintendo 64 pads in stock in the Nintendo UK store, for anyone who is interested. Finally I can play F-Zero X properly! I can't buy anything from the Nintendo site. Same as my switch. Doesn't like any cards or paypal. Fantastic.

Are people getting excited about Advance Wars 1&2? In principle I am as they are tremendous games and a great way to fill time. And it's ideal in a "pick up and play then stop when it's time to get off the train" type scenario.

*raises hand* Especially since we might actually get a new entry in the series if this (and potentially a Dual Strike remaster) do well. Now do it for F-Zero too, please and thanks

A HD version of GX would be fine with me.

A HD version of GX would be fine with me. There's been rumours about recently. Not sure if there's any legitimacy to them though

Has anyone played Quake, and less so Doom (original) on Switch? They're on sale cheap at the moment.
I assume Doom would control basically fine on the switch. How about Quake? Does it have gyro aiming, or auto-aim, because I remember trying to play Quake back on a very old console (PS1?) and the aiming was a pain after using M&Kb.
I feel like they'd be kinda fun games to dip into from the comfort of the couch.
Quake has splitscreen, right?

Quake is one of the few games that uses the internal gyro when you use it handheld, so the gyro works even with controllers like the hori split pad pro. Runs really well too.

Bought Quake last night! It's fast and slick, controls seem good. Strafe on the left thumbstick, gyro to fine tune though haven't needed it as much.
It's chockful of content, an absolute steal.

Reckon there will be a Switch 2 announcement any moment soon. I just treated myself to an OLED. Completely unnecessary purchase, but it is rather lovely. Love the screen size. Feels really premium. I did say to myself that when BOTW2 launches I would get one, but with the delays etc I kind of just thought I wait it out, but I got the better of myself didn't I.
I have stuck my old joycons on it for the moment to hide the purchase. Guess I could say I got new joycons, but...not going to take the risk for now.

Heh, same feeling as I just bought an OLED, but it'll be *at least* another year before they announce switch 2. TOTK is going to sell even more switches for nintendo especially leading up to Christmas.

I think all this Switch 2 stuff is just a ploy to distract us from the Switch 3.

It'll be 8k when docked and 4k in handheld mode apparently. Most games will run at 240fps.

I reckon the Switch 2 will be announced / released in late 2024. While I love the format I don't think I will buy a Switch 2 until it's been out for 1-2 years.

Nintendo have told me there is nothing they can do about my payment woes. I can't register any bank cards or link my Paypal, so my only option for buying eShop games is with top up cards.
Also, I cannot seemingly buy anything from their online store, at all.
Amazing...

I've been saying it for a couple of years now, but I still think end of 2023 is the earliest we will see a release of a Switch 2. More likely is sometime in 2024.
If they confirm backwards compatibility for all or most games, it will likely be a day one purchase. If not, I will wait a couple of years for a decent amount of releases.

Nintendo have never done a straight #2 version of a console have they? NES to SNES I guess.
I'm not so sure on their handheld history, but I suppose that had more straight upgrades.

One could argue that the Switch is a straight upgrade from the WiiU.
DS to 3DS too, really

Not really sure I'd consider it that way. Totally different architecture, and a different general idea. (Wii U was all about having a second screen)

I guess GB -> GB Color -> GBA, DS -> DS Lite -> etc.. so they have done it in handheld form. Usually for TV Consoles they seem to want to make some dramatic change with each new console. As the switch is both, it'll be interesting to see whether they come out with a Switch 2 that's just an incremental upgrade, or decide they want to do something innovative again.
I think internally the Wii was basically a Gamecube 2? (just a guess), but then of course they totally changed the way people interacted with it.

Creatively, the idea that they want something different from a new console is admirable but they struck gold with the switch, it seems mad that they wouldn't just give us a souped up Switch.
I think they'd have to make it powerful enough so that ports of Series and PS5 consoles were possible.

True, but you could also argue that they struck gold with the Wii and really just needed to provide a souped up Wii that could keep up with the other consoles graphically... but instead we got the WiiU.

But the Wii U was a souped-up Wii (SD -> HD). But compared to PS4 and Xbox it was indeed lacking.

Not really sure I'd consider it that way. Totally different architecture, and a different general idea. (Wii U was all about having a second screen) Definitely true with the architecture, but I don't think Nintendo's idea for the console is that different. We generally think about the Wii U as the one with the second screen, but for most games from Nintendo that was only reserved for a mode and wasn't used in such a way that it was essential for any game. The aspect Nintendo actually considered the main new feature was the ability to play just on the gamepad and not the TV. I could be wrong, but they may have actually decreed that all games had to be playable just on the gamepad, meaning the second screen function had to always be optional and never intrinsic. I remember reading that the idea was mostly a result of Japanese homes predominantly only having a single TV and it was very much meant to allow kids to keep playing when mum and dad wanted to watch the box. The Switch has obviously taken that idea and refined it greatly, blurring that line between home console and a portable console. It's unlikely, but I would love them to revisit the idea of a second screen with a Switch 2. Make the dock a little more independent and allow you to connect your Switch in portable mode (or multiple) to it. There are a lot of possibilities unexplored, particularly with couch multiplayer play. I would like to see the dock beefed up a bit more in general, rather than it only really being the place the Switch charges. Give it a boost in power, so there is a real noticeable difference between resolutions when you are docked. In handheld, you only really need to 800p-1080p at 60fps. If that could be boosted to 1440p 60fps while docked, along with some upscaling tech such as DLSS to bring that up to 4k, then that would be ideal. A lot of people say you have to tamper expectations with the Switch, because of its portable nature. Put that power in the dock instead and then you don't have make those sacrifices.
