Where do we insert the Steam Deck? Sometimes the cure is worse than the illness...

The end of Fire Emblem Engage is in sight! Fuck it was good. Story's a bit meh, but in terms of the strategy it's the best Fire Emblem I've played in years. Possibly since the GBA days.

I can't believe I've not played a Fire Emblem on Switch yet. I gave Wargroove a go, but the map design wasn't all that great.
For some reason I just want the Advanced Wars remakes more. I don't know if I can make time for Fire Emblem as well.

My main memory of playing a Fire Emblem on GBA was enjoying it a lot on commutes, then making one dumb mistake in a battle half way through a campaign, because I was distracted by changing trains, and about 3 of my main characters dying in that one battle and the save system allowing no way to recover them. At which point I never touched it again.

That sounds mighty stressful. My last was Awakening on 3DS. I'd play it just before bed with a cup of tea. Except that cup of tea often because 2 or 3 and I would try and survive on 4 or 5 hours of sleep instead.
Good times.

Sadly, despite being a big fan of the series, the only FE game I have got close to completing was the first GBA one (with no characters death, somewhere near the end before I got distracted). I keep playing them, enjoying them then getting distracted. Three Houses is one of my least played though because the whole school setting just puts me off (I did of course buy the season pass for it on sale though...). I have been similar with my Etrian Odysseys except I actually finished the main game on the first FS release on that one ...
Up to chapter 4 of Engage I think...

Apparently Mario Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has a demo now. Very much worth a punt in my humble opinion.

Was cheapish (ÂŁ28) on Amazon the other day too. Added to my backlog even though I should probably go back and finish the first one...

My kids are enjoying watching me play BotW. Me, less so: the junior designer that added the “can’t climb in the rain” feature was a penis and should be fired especially when *it fucking rains all the fucking time*.
Dogshit game design.

Tried the new Theatrhythm demo and I love it, FF7, 8, 9 and 10 hold a special place in my heart so to be able to revisit these characters (albeit in an unusual art style) and the wonderful music is a treat.
Think I'll pick this up when the price hopefully drops, got Metroid coming tomorrow so I want to fully focus on that first.

Metroid Fusion comes to the expansion pass on March 9th. Its very good, but perhaps a little more linear than some fans would expect. Its the game Dread most closely resembles in the series.

I'm currently playing the Metroid Prime remaster, it's my first ever Metroid. They should added a quicksave system, as I have turned it of a few times because I just can't be bothered to make the long trek back to wherever I died from my last save point. I can't say I'm enjoying the game massively for this exact reason, I give it a "pretty good" rating so far. Let's see if that gets better as I improve at the game (currently near the end of Phendrana Drifts).

Not played this one but listened to a podcast recently that discussed it and it has me intrigued, they said the same thing as you regarding linearity.

I like it despite it funneling you along far too much. Probably the best attempt at a story in the series that isn't mainly told through the environments. SA-X is badass too.

Hopefully Zero Mission turns up soon. Never played it.

I would strongly recommend both. Fusion does funnel you, but come the game's end you're let loose to mop up all the secrets you missed and that is hugely satisfying.
Zero Mission is also excellent and my favourite of the two. It feels like it has more freedom, with level design more closely in line with Super Metroid.
Also, both games control very nicely too. The lack of GBA buttons actually helps the Metroid series and in retrospect, I really wish Super Metroid had a GBA port to tighten up it's clunky controls.

On a related note; Nintendo Life just updated its top 50 Switch games list and has put Metroid Prime and Dread in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
Not sure I'd agree with that just yet, but Dread is way better than I initially gave it credit for. Probably my favourite 2D Metroid now.

Still can't believe I beat that last boss, initially thought it was beyond me, took about 5 days though.

Still can't believe I beat that last boss, initially thought it was beyond me, took about 5 days though. So did I! Weirdly though, once I worked it out I beat it without barely taking a hit. It's exceptionally well designed and incredibly fair. It just needs to be learned.
