Balls, I thought I'd preordered Prime from shopto yesterday but couldn't see an email. Just checked now and it's sold out. Looks like it still there as of two minutes ago... I ordered yesterday.

Fuuuuuuuuuck saaaaaaaaaake.
Dusted off the Switch (quite literally) to play Prime and the left joy con has somehow developed drift while it’s been not in use. Perhaps out of spite. No problem, I’ve got a Hori split pro thingy so attached them, and those fuckers have envelopes drift too! WTF! How are they developing drift just sat there not being used?

My lite had drift and I could "fix" it by giving it a really hard waggle ..... oooo er
It wasn't permanent though..... Getting an oled solved that.

Yes, it's now saying preorder again! Woo! Not sure whether they secured more allocations or it was just incorrect earlier. Either way I'm now down.

Hmmm Breath of the Wild on sale and it's my birthday this weekend... Maybe it's finally time I played this and saw what all the fuss it about?

Weapons break all the time, literally unplayable. Hope they fix that glitch in TOTK.

With BotW 2 just round the corner, I've decided to go back to the first game, which I never actually completed. Think I played about half of it on Wii U and had been meaning to go back to it on Switch, but only managed a couple of sessions with it.
Started it again last night and absolutely fallen for it. My second attempt to play it I made the mistake of rushing through the early stages, but I'm really trying to soak up everything this time around and I think the Great Plateau might be one of the best opening areas to any game. It really is the perfect microcosm of what the whole game is like. It clearly is a tutorial area, introducing different elements of the gameplay to you, but it does it so organically rather than dictating to you what to do (with the powers in each of the shrines being a bit of an exception to that).
I do wonder what they are going to do with the new game to differentiate it though. I wonder if what we are seeing in the trailers is just one part of the game and we are going to get some event halfway through that is going to change things up quite a bit, such as drastically reshaping the map or going somewhere different.

God - the weapons breaking was painful.
Any chance they’ll bin that for TOTK?

Am I missing something or are people getting carried away with the Metroid Prime remake? I get they’ve done a good job but it’s nearly the price of a new game release and it’s a remake of a quite old game now. Haven’t things moved on a bit?

Nintendo will nintendo but price probably about fair. 29 quid for the physical at shopto and its not just a cash grab. Actually spent some time and effort on it. A nice way to "officially" play a classic. Stop moaning haha

Not at all. Its long over due the remake treatment, given its age. I don't think its ever been bettered. And Metroid games are also endlessly replayable.

And from the videos I've seen it's pretty much been completely remade, not just remastered.

Yeah it's pretty much a remake in all by name tbh. Knowing Nintendo, this easily could have been a £50 release that was hyped up for months beforehand.

Gotta agree better a world with it then without.
Bounced off it when originally released so I’ll hang in for a demo option hopefully and if not a trade in chance down the line…

I get they’ve done a good job but it’s nearly the price of a new game release and it’s a remake of a quite old game now. Haven’t things moved on a bit? It's a timeless classic and for someone like me it's worth every penny. They really poured a hell of a lot of effort into it: Textures completely redone across the board, noticeable model upgrades, new lighting, updated controls (which is pretty huge if you remember how clunky the original was) It's definitely a remaster and not a remake as some people are saying (the core game is unchanged), but like I said elsewhere it should be a benchmark for what we expect from remasters. Something like the recent P3P remaster in comparison is utterly lazy and has a more appropriate asking price for the level of effort. Currently at 97 user and critic score on metacritic, so I don't think I'm alone here...

I never played the original, so I'm happy to have a modern version to look over whenever I manage to finish Fire Emblem.

I have to sign up to primo online to play GBA Metroids? FFS Nintendo, just let me buy them. But then you'd most likely have to buy them again on the next console too? Even with a digital purchase you probably won't have access to them forever. I personally prefer what they're doing now, as I've already bought most of these games before and it's not like you can't easily emulate and play them on other devices if you want a more "permanent" copy.

I started another run at Metroid Dread today. Just getting my fix while I wait for the physical release of Prime.

Is it twin-stick now? I tried Prime three or four times when the GameCube was a contemporary console, but I just couldn’t get into it. One of the reasons was how restrictive I thought the camera was, compared to other first-person games of the era. Timesplitters 2 comes to mind.

Yep, it defaults to a more modern twin stick control scheme, which works fantastically well.

I'm sure it's loads better now with updated controls but at the time I wouldn't even think twice about the control scheme, I'd just ended up getting used to unusual control setups.
Wouldn't want to go back though!

Is the Expansion pass for Pokemon Sword/Shield worth it? Seems like about half a full game for about half the price of a full game?
