Could do with someone doing a Primehack/Metroid Prime Remaster comparison in the Utoobs before I splash out, but I am tempted by that as well. I could play it on the Steam Deck with the tweaked controls...

Another pretty good Direct. Plenty of interest for me, particularly Baten Kaitos, which I remember playing for ages on the GameCube. I think I got on to the second disc. Must have been 40-60 hours to get that far!
I'm also interested in that chibi style baseball game and a few other things. I haven't been gaming much at all for a long time so might end up getting only a couple of games as one can easily last me 6 months these days.

Does it play properly without constant crashes though. Getting a video of it looking shiny is one thing, playing perfectly is another. I've got nothing to lose by trying it I guess as I still have a switch if it doesn't. Video I saw last year didn't show any crashes but I've heard it struggles to hit 60fps.

I went ahead and put a pre order in for Zelda belatedly at the last place still under £50 (shopto) so hopefully still save a tenner assuming they don't hike up the price.
Slightly regret a recent playthrough of Metroid Prime on the Steam Deck as not sure I fancy another go quite so soon - but this remaster looks lovely!
I did love a bit of Samba de Amigo back on the Dreamcast so could be tempted for a bit of party fun on the Switch!
Wish I had time for all the RPGs though..

Metroid Prime is one I never really played, despite Super being my favourite all timer. Is it up for pre-order anywhere?
I'm struggling to get excited for Zelda. BOTW was such an unknown departure and such a deep game, I don't think I played anything else for months. I'll get it any play it but I just can't get enthused for this at all.

Just loaded it up. It looks bloody lovely, and that's coming from someone who's emulated it with a ridiculous amount of supersampling.
A bit gutted we didn't get the trilogy mind you, but I'll happily pay £35 again for this level of effort.

From what I saw from a former Retro Dev it seemed almost too much work to rework the other 2 games that were made with motion controls in mind with the time and budget given.

I think I am obliged to try it out at that price.

Only 3 had the motion controls baked in. But yeah from the work they've done it'd probably not be anywhere near as nice looking if they'd attempted all 3 at once. Now to patiently wait for it on sale. Or just play primehack.

I will die on this hill alone, but Prime 2 isn't great. Its very repetitive and the light/dark world implementation felt like padding. The game could have been half the length and it would have been a classic too!
I don't think it needs a remake, personally.

It was decent enough, although probably quite telling that I've only ever played it twice compared to 10+ times for MP1.
MP3 was more of a disappointment for me.
I might hold off on MP2 and wait for the inevitable trilogy physical edition instead.

I really don't think we're getting a trilogy of remakes. I think this is it. I have noticed a few Youtube vids with folk saying otherwise, but I just don't see it. I don't see the logic to that conclusion. Its just really wishful thinking that will disapoint everyone else watching.
I mean, yeah, we got a Trilogy bundle on Wii, but it isn't that straight forward. Firstly, Prime 1 and 2 were originally part of a series of GameCube games Nintendo were porting to Wii under the 'new play control' project. They were quick and cheap ports designed to plug gaps in the Wii release schedule.
Secondly, Metroid Prime was arguably the least likely of all those games to sell well on its own. As renowned as they are, they are not high selling games. Bundling them together in a single package looks like great fan service for its audience. It certainly looks more appealing to 'hardcore' players.
Thirdly, the hard work of refining Wii controls was already done with Prime 3. That game had a year-long delay to help refine those pointer controls, so all they had to do in this trilogy was copy them over and add widescreen support. It was probably the easiest port job of all the 'new play control' games.
Personally, I hope I am wrong, but it is a lot of work to expect a remake trilogy. I realise a lot of the complaints about pricing involve the expecations of a trilogy. 35 quid per game would mean you end up paying £105 for all three. Thats mental, which only further suggests its not happening. Its one game, £35. Thats it.
As it is, the game was shadow dropped, which Nintendo rarely does and not with a game they expect to sell many millions. This wont sell many millions. It might match or slightly surpass Metroid Dread (3.3 million?), but it wont sell much more than that. It wont be enough to warrant remaking all 3 of them and if Prime 4 is ever coming out on Switch, releasing 3 remakes beforehand seems like self saturation.
Its the sad truth. As a huge Metroid fan, I think we've been very fortunate just to get Dread and this. I'd take more, but I just can't see it. If we were getting a trilogy on Switch it would have looked a lot less nicer than this remake of Prime 1.

On the other hand they might want something to drip feed to the fans until MP4 is ready to release, in which case the other two games make perfect sense. I would imagine they used the Wii trilogy as a base rather than the GC originals, so will have already figured out the controls for 3 as part of this. Given how good Nintendo are at keeping stuff under wraps, we'll never know until the next one stealth drops (or not)...
Absolutely loving it so far anyway. Had a quick go at lunch and had to tear myself away.

It's also fair to say that this can be a litmus test. If it sells well enough, they can commission to remake the other two. If it doesn't meet expectations then well, the best in the series was remade, count your blessings.

I didn't mean for that to sound like some crazy rant. I had just watched a couple of videos online that had this expectation of a trilogy and if you didn't know better already, it would sound like it had been officially confirmed.
It was just weird to hear these things like they were a fact.

My overriding memory of MP3 is that people kept talking at me. This is god-damn Metroid Prime, you jerks. Shut up and go away and leave me in silence!

I loved Metroid Prime, but I never played the other two. It might have been partly down to Gamecube games being really expensive and hard to get used, and not having a lot of cash at the time. But I think it was also just that Metroid Prime was a rather exhausting game, and by the time I'd finished I needed a break.

I liked Prime 2 and 3. I didn't think the latter was as bad as I heard other people claim, the environments were pretty cool. Can't believe Prime got a visual overhaul. The rain drops hitting the visor was a big technical wow moment for me first time playing, now they have that plus the rainwater runs down the arm cannon differently depending on if you're aiming up or down. Crazy. Got up to getting the morph ball last night and I'm just reminded of how the game adds layers to the music in the Chozo Ruins as you progress, what a special game.

An interesting theory about the Zelda price is that at 18.2GB it's the largest first party exclusive yet. Other publishers would put some of the game on the cart with a mandatory download, but this will have everything on the cart so will need a 32GB one. Hopefully means it's just a once-off and they'll go back to $60 for other releases. (he says ever so naively)

Actually, weren't Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey already that price in Europe? It's not us that should be going all surprised Pikachu, it's happened before for us (and didn't stick...)
Just so happens that it's now worldwide
Edit: BotW definitely was, at least. Can't find anything concrete on SMO.

I think that the price of the first game was £60 in the UK. Not sure about Odyssey, but Smash Bros. Ultimate was the same. I've not actually looked on the store, but I assume $70=£70.

Oh yeah, not Odyssey, it was Smash Bros. that I saw as also being 70€. My bad

I think it’s only the states that has seen a price increase. It’s £59.99 here, which was the same as the original.

Has anyone had any luck with the Collector's Edition for Tears of the Kingdom? Can't find it anywhere and doubt I'll be able to in all honesty.

Balls, I thought I'd preordered Prime from shopto yesterday but couldn't see an email. Just checked now and it's sold out.
