Ooof. Six years later and suddenly those Zelda visuals don’t look as impressive as they did in the last game.
Still going to play the shit out of it, but it’s time for Super Switch.

But yeah, not much in that one for me. Fire Emblem DLC is cool, and I'll probably get the Octopath demo.

Not much we didn't already know, but it is only first half of the year. Can't say I wasn't hoping for an unexpected bombshell...
Still, FE DLC, Octopath, Advance Wars, probably a remaster or two and of course Tears of the Kingdom is still good enough for me!
That Xenoblade DLC though, woof. Should get people talking...

That said, Professor Layton dropping by for three seconds, refusing to elaborate and leaving like a chad probably qualifies as an "unexpected bombshell" If that's also first half then add it to the list, easy

It’s been far too long! Nice to see Ghost trick and EO too, hopefully they will pull more from the ds/3ds catalogue in the future.

£34.95 was what the Switch told me.

£34.95 was what the Switch told me. Yup. 34.99 The screenshots on the eshop page look incredible. Looks like a lot of work has gone into this.

In the Japanese version of the direct they also announced a remake of the very first Atelier game, Atelier Marie, as well as a game called Natsumon by the original Boku no Natuyasumi guy.

I missed Metroid Prime the first go around - is it a generic FPS similar to Halo or does it have a bit more about it than that?

Some nice bonus SMT/Persona character art if you preorder Etrian Odyssey, too

Fuck me, Prime came out 21 years ago, there are babies born that year that are parents now. How did I get so old?

Puzzles, backtracking, traversing, boss battles. Edit - Its closer to the Bioshock games. They borrow the Metroid Prime quite heavily.

This Metroid Remaster seems waaaaay more than a simple remaster, new textures, remodeling, 60fps.

The original was at 60fps too!
But yeah, I thought Nintendo were being a bit cheeky asking for £35 for this, but it looks like the work done warrants it.

Did someone say Metroid Prime?!
Price is a bit cheeky, and I'm a bit sad it's not a wholly new game, but on the other hand no-one has really done anything like Metroid Prime since, and it's long enough since I played it that I've probably forgotten pretty much everything. Rock on!

So... Buying an eShop 2 game voucher to put towards Zelda is the no-brainer option, right? I can't see it going for less than £42 physical, and it's not a game I'm likely to want to trade-in.

Lowest BOTW has ever been on eshop is 41.99. So with this one being more expensive if you can use the 80 pound voucher for it that's the best deal you can get digitally I reckon. Otherwise a few of us have punted at the 48 quid pre order for the physical at the base website. A chance they may increase it though but will just cancel if they do that.

I had a quick look this morning, it is in the list of eligible games (which I was quite surprised about tbh - maybe it's a mistake).
Tempting. Ninty might get a bit of my money today, even the expansion pass is looking more tempting now, with the GB/GBA stuff.

How well do they emulate on pc? Might be a decent way to play it, I remember botw looking much better when it was upscaled bit no idea how it ran.

In my mind, the Prime announcement was just an upres port and I would have been content with it, one of my favourite games playable on Switch? Of course! But having played just a little before going to bed and then seeing screenshots from others..it's prob the best looking game on the Switch. Can't wait to play it all over again for like the 9th time.

Does it play properly without constant crashes though. Getting a video of it looking shiny is one thing, playing perfectly is another. I've got nothing to lose by trying it I guess as I still have a switch if it doesn't.

That was a great Direct. Really wide range of games and lots looked interesting to me.
I'm not familiar with the re-releasing RPGs, but they both looked interesting. As soon as I saw Baten Kaitos I was amazed that no modern game had done a deck building RPG. With card battlers being pretty popular and tabletop games like Arkham Horror pretty much doing the job of showing how to do it, you would think it was an obvious mechanic to go with. Certainly intrigued to see how an older game does it.
Thought Decapolice looked pretty cool, as did Raincode. Not played a Professor Layton game before, but hear good things, so nice that one is coming to Switch. Good on Nintendo for committing to the delay of Advance Wars, but great to see that is finally coming out.
Of course, Metroid Prime is great to finally be coming to Switch. I do love the trolling from Nintendo that it is just the first game, but they do seem to have put the effort in. It certainly looks like a Switch game instead of a re-release of a Game Cube game.
Was initially a bit meh about Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games, but those actually looked pretty good. I'll probably dip into some of those for 5 minutes before forgetting about them, like most of the games on that Online service.
And Zelda, looking great as ever. Not a huge amount more shown, although tone looks like it is going to be a bit darker than before. The junk vehicles looked cool and should lend themselves to more improv physics shenanigans.
Yeah, that was pretty damn good, although it does make the Switch not look like a console that is soon to be replaced.

I thought the Direct was fantastic, for my tastes anyway!
Pikmin 4 (now with a puppy), release date for Advance Wars, new Samba de Amigo (loved the original, should work well with the joycons), Metroid Primer Remaster (shadow dropped!), Gameboy/GBA games on Switch Online, new Prof Layton (lovely surprise), Ghost Trick/Baten Katos remasters (again, loved the originals) and Zelda looks typically great.
Not a ton of new stuff but every remaster was something I loved back in the day and I'm on a nostalgia kick at the moment so yeah, great stuff.
