I'm not going to try and play online yet.
I'm still at the stage of having to remember it's GT and not GTA.

Haha, same here, although more burnout. "I can totally get through that gap there". Oh fuck.

It's not like we're that good any way, none of us will be going to GT Academy anytime soon.

Whizzo that's good know and I will definitely be up for a go. When I can remember to a) start braking before I realise I'm already nearly at the apex and b) when I do brake, remember to not just jam on the throttle fully as I'm exiting. Oh and c) stop reaching for the handbrake.

Dynamic weather is a nice idea in theory, but I don't really get how it's supposed to work in this game. I'm most of the way through the menus and no race yet has been anywhere near long enough to change tyres. So what am I supposed to do at the start of the race? Look at the static image of the track and try to work out if it's dry, if it's likely to stay dry, etc?
Then sometimes I'll back out to the world map to buy intermediate tyres. Go back into the race, and now it's bright sunshine! Not to mention the fact that changing between softs and intermediates often moves you either side of the PP limit.
Trying to enjoy this game but it's fighting me.

Any race where it's been raining will generally start raining again I've found. Even if it's bright sunshine when you go back in it tends to start racing again halfway round.

So you start on inters despite the (initially) dry track?

Yeah. I think someone mentioned that those two guys tell you if it's going to rain too but I've never tried. It only really was a problem on one race for me though, the others seemed to be pretty clear that it was going to rain. I got the feeling that one of them was designed to make you have to finish the race on the wrong tires.

Those guys don't appear before every race.
There are ways around it for sure but I kind of wish it could just tell you pre-race whether it was wet or dry.

Yeah it needs a forecast. I get a feeling a lot of the stuff is designed with sport mode and the post menus longer races in mind.

Finally got all Gold on International A! Not gonna tackle Super license just yet. Doing the missions and I see there's one to manage your fuel. Can never get it right, do you just generally keep the fuel level around what your current gear is?

Can never get it right, do you just generally keep the fuel level around what your current gear is? Is that the one with the pick-up truck? If so you need to accelerate just enough to get up hills etc to then be able to lift and coast as much as possible.

It's the last mission on the Beyond the Horizon play list. Can't remember the name of the track or car tbf, but you have to complete a lap within a given time.

If it's the one I am thinking of, my solution was to start without changing the fuel mapping, quickly accelerating away until in 4th gear, then switching over to full fuel efficiency for most of the track. I then switched back to prioritise power at the bottom of the hill before the right hand turn which starts you climbing again. Took several attempts to find the point at which to change over but got there in the end.
Another way to conserve fuel is to just shift up the gears earlier. The faster you accelerate, the more fuel it uses, so gentler throttle control helps (at least I think so). But as it's still a timed event (and not pure distance), getting up to speed quickly obviously helps reduce time (as you are spending more time at a higher speed). So it's a balancing act.

The engine swap implementation is piss poor. Got an RX7 engine from a roulette ticket. Doesn't say what it'll fit in other than obviously something from Mazda. GTPlanet have a car compatibility list that someone has compiled and that says my engine will only fit in a 1989 MX5. Fair enough except you can't buy one from the dealership and the used car shop doesn't have one either atm...

I struggled with that Laguna Seca touring cars event for hours last night before I looked it up online and found the fuel map thing for the first time

Every time I’ve tried it I’ve come second cos every car including me has pitted once and the winner in a Swift has enough fuel to get the whole thing done on a tank.

Heh well I bought a Suzuki Swift and still lost a few times.
It's the fuel map thing that's important and it makes a big difference. I don't know if the Swift is known for having a large fuel tank but I did learn that putting a turbo on it really affects the fuel economy too, so maybe any unmodified car will be just as capable? I am also curious how deep they got with simulating fuel consumption.
But yeah the whole trick to that event is to get round it without pitting, because that's what the AI in P1 manages

I've had 2 engines off it now. Fucked if I can work out how to put them in anything though. You've got to so it through the garage bit but I can't work out what cars are compatible. Just stick it in a Morris Traveller

Two 4 star roulettes today...5k and a crappy Honda kit car.
I am rather stuck on the Pan-Am championship. I cannot for love nor money place well in the Blue whatsit speedway. I just hate the track. Oversteer far too much and spin out. 2nd and 3rd races are fine (btw, how insanely good is Interlagos?)

What sort of car are you using? I had awful trouble with some weirdness losing the back end on the fast banked second corner in whatever muscle car I used. Switched to using the Focus, which counts as American despite the Euro heritage, which is pretty much my go to car for a lot of events.

A Camaro - have also tried the corvette and Mustang, will give the focus a go next. As you say, it's that last corner, so twitchy.
