I enjoy your long post-game reviews tbh as I think a few others here also do.

33. Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC)
From what I remember I quite liked the original reboot but as they always seem to do they doubled down on the combat in this and by the halfway point I was bored and struggled to get to the end. It looks great but that's about it.

That survival mode was quite fun. Not very Tomb Raidery, but more memorable than the base game.

Lies of P.
Yeah a good copy mix of Bloodborne and dark souls. Found the first half really easy and the last couple of bosses ridiculously infuriating but from the chat it looks like I was the problem as others didn't take as many goes. Perhaps as I hadn't suffered before then I hadn't learnt the mechanics as well as I should have. Very good game and even though at first I was saying it had no atmosphere it turned out great.

And he found shadows to be terrible game.

Disco Elysium (PS5)A wonderful RPG and truly a role-playing game. It's much more linear than I expected, the choice and flexibility lies almost entirely in how you define your character, his thought processes, motives, self-identity and reactions. Otherwise, the story is very rigid, but this enables an expertly crafted narrative with plenty of big moments, twists and turns in the murder case you're investigating, plus some rich world building and a cast of eccentric and memorable characters. I found the ending highly satisfying with one moment in particular ( the phasmid reveal ) being unexpected and genuinely delightful. My one criticism would be that passing certain skill checks sometimes felt mandatory, and rather than letting you fail forwards in interesting ways the game sometimes forces you to drop points into a specific skill so that you can go back and try again. I found that a bit frustrating in a couple of places and did guiltily resort to save scumming once or twice. But that's a minor issue - overall the story, dialogue and skill check systems were brilliant and often led to some unbearably tense moments where my finger would hover over a dialogue option for several minutes as I weighed the risks of a certain decision. Really hope a sequel gets made. 10/10

3 of those 4 points were for how much he enjoyed the porn deaths. Yeah, the first game in the reboot trilogy was gross in some ways - not only the death sequences but Lara constantly taking a beating as well. Shadow was so much better and easily the best one. Ended up as one of my favourite games

The Invincible (PC) - 9/10. This has turned my opinion on walking sims upside down. I used to hate them, now one of my most favorite genres. Despite not getting the 'good' ending and some annoying action sequences, I thought this was amazing. If you enjoy "abandoned and alone on an alien planet" setting and don't mind just walking and talking most of the time, I recommend.
EDIT: Re: Shadow of Tomb Raider - I also found it the most fun of the trilogy. Sure the plot was ridiculous and Lara's decisions were in some moments difficult to understand, but man those puzzles and climbing parts were awesome. Especially the puzzle with that ancient device I will never forget - for me the pinnacle of game design of all the games I've played so so far.

I'd be curious to know what your friend loves about Rise as its generally considered the weakest of the trilogy and in the brief time I've played Shadow I've enjoyed it a lot more than the entirety of Rise so it can only go downhill from there. I'm probably alone in this but the combat in Rise really pissed me off and when your moving from one set piece to another then it becomes tiring real quickly. The plot is nonsense, the hub areas feel like busy work and there are far too few tombs/puzzles and I'd just had enough.

Superliminal (PS5)
Just knocked this off in one sitting. Only had to look up the solution to one puzzle (the room with the apples and the fan). It's quite derivative in its style and design but does have some clever puzzles, some quite trippy moments, and doesn't outstay its welcome. Enjoyable but doesn't really have enough of an identity of its own.

Quick reddit it indicates that rise is better in every way. Friend says he enjoyed gameplay. That's all I got from him. He didn't beat shadows and he completes games most of the time.

The first reboot I absolutely loved! The next two were enjoyable but nothing special. She was a great Lara though. Normal boobs and into BDSM.

3 games of the same origin story that ends with teasing in Lara becoming the established character we know. A bit of an embarrassment that Lara had a much more interesting origin story from page 1 in the physical manual that came with the original TR1 than was told over 3 games.

Which puzzle was that? I only played Shadow, I quite enjoyed it for the most part, as you said the puzzles and tombs were very atmospheric and well done. It did peter out a bit towards the end when the obligatory horror element kicked in, and I don't think I ever got round to completing it.

The ravings of lunatics and a sex pervert
Shadow had the best depiction of Lara in the trilogy, the best puzzles, best story and was the best

Spiderman 2
I didn't want it to end, loved it. It's a real technical marvel too. Story in the first had more of an emotional impact but was good here as well.

Thanks for reminding me of that one. I had kind of forgotten about it.
So I suppose it has good atmosphere and environments?

Haven't finished the main game yet but Phantom Liberty was amazing. The final sequence gave me goosebumps Also Alex taking out Hansen like a fucking boss 150ish hours now and no gigs left (aside from the NCPD stuff) so just the end to do. Can't find any other reasons to put it off. I'm really going to miss it

Now there's a delightful puzzle game. Kept amazing me all the way through. Despite keeping things on a tight leash (or maybe exactly because of that: I guess the game knew its main mechanic would have had the potential to be extremely confusing if it didn't force the player down a specific path all the time), it never feels like you should have needed more free reign. Plus, it's longer than it looks at a first glance, but not enough to get boring.
A great effort all around. 9/10

Quake Enhanced: I have only played through the four original episodes and at first I wasn't very taken with it. It took some time to get used to the extremely fast movement and the weaponry didn't seem very interesting. Grenade Launcher and Rocket Launcher were the ones that were actually fun from the get-go. Took a bit to get used to the fairly large explosion radius though. Still, the map design and which guns are provided as well as how much ammo and what monster selection has to be fought - all of that taken together makes things much more interesting. Map architecture has some nice variety to it as well and the dark and hostile environments combine well with the creepy, foreboding soundtrack.
For a first playthrough default difficulty was definitely fitting as the game often moves fairly fast and the maps of the third and fourth episodes are often complex and do not hold back. Fiends were kind of hard to get used to, but a lot of the challenge goes away once the player has learned how to respond to the various threats. Vores are only really dangerous when there is no cover, but Spawns were pretty annoying to fight once they started bouncing around. The last map wasn't that well designed, but otherwise I quite liked most of them and things stayed interesting throughout. Having the hub as a connective thread was a nice idea as well. It honestly feels like a much more modern idea and it's now pretty obvious where The Citadel took the idea from.
Edit: Also finished another playthrough of Eormor - Shattered Lands yesterday. Just wanted to have the whole map conquered once, so I did that. The starting position with House Persa was much easier than with House Tarleesh, no matter what the game suggests. Two allies that block threats from the North and two very rich provinces right from the get-go.

Sea Of Solitude (XB-S vis GP)
I have huge amount of respect for the team that created this game. It’s definitely an Indie game that I will not forget anytime soon. Any game dealing with the topics of mental illness, suicide and family breakdown deserves support and credit. To then deliver such important but sensitive topics in a universal, engaging and impactful way is very impressive. The game world and personal character story told is at times painfully reflective but never judgemental and you can’t help but come away affected by what is as a whole truly impactful art.
Pros
Brave but sensitive storytelling Beautiful graphical style Haunting piano score Pull/push organic player progression mechanics Scandi inspired fairytale hybrid
Cons (minor)
Some inaccurate gameplay Some sections err towards the side of frustrating mechanics Some uneven voiceover delivery
A very difficult game to score because it’s a game I think EVERYONE (on GP or on a good sale discount) should at least try. If you can relax into it and take it for the intended reflective game experience that it is, then I can’t think that anyone who would not at least take some form of positive experience from playing this. It’s one of those games that will undoubtedly be good for most, but maybe not for everyone.
For me… 8.5/10

Enjoyed but have to say the ending was somewhat of a anti-climax, certainly when compared to the first game. I clocked in 51 hours on the in game clock but think I played nearer 70 ? reached lvl 41 (I think) and still have so many skills to learn and unlock! a good amount of side content left to do, which I may do as I enjoy the world.

What Remains of Edith Finch (PC) - Wow. Just W.O.W. How come I haven't played this sooner? (Inner voice: "Because you hated walking sims, that's why"). So my new-found love for this genre led me to this. Found out I got it free from Epic. I liked the "something sinister is going on here" overtone although TBH I no longer enjoy "pure horror" games anymore. I might have missed some Finches (not sure, but Wikipedia page suggests so) and the ending was kind of expected, I mean everything was leading to it. But still a shining example of games as art. 10/10
