Even Microsoft couldn't afford the security compute units (that is a deep cut)

Our Data Scientists are such idiots, well meaning but idiots none the less. Nobody has taught them engineering at any point. Our current release is looking delayed as the work was in "4 PRs". Obviously I had to rebase their own code base to make the 4 PRs actually function together to generate test data so that I could productionise it. Then I found a load of test data that couldn't run so had to fix that for them. Then I found a load of bugs, which I was told there was a secret 5th PR I'd not been told about with that in, but also a fuck load of other work. That other work is also built on top of a bunch of things they changed in April and forgot to inform the rest of us about. Etc. etc. etc.
Long story short in the last 2 weeks I had to keep working when ill, worked to 8pm/10pm several days and spent this entire weekend fucking coding.
ARGH! Rant over.
EDIT: The problem is nobody has ever taught them how to do this in a "sane" way. So I'm not even personally angry with them, just the idiocy of the company for working this way.

Sounds like it'd mostly affect developer machines. As why on god would you have a browser running in your production environments.

640K of conventional memory is more than enough.

Microsoft apps generally seem to consume insane amounts of memory as far as I can tell. Even the browser versions of office consume insane amounts of memory relative to Google docs.
I mostly use Linux or a Mac at work and it's extraordinary the amount of memory the different OSs need.

So Logitech webcam (C920) works when connected direct into a USB slot. Works when connected to a 2m M/F extension cable. Doesn't work when using a powered 10m M/F extension cable.
Obv length issue, but am I missing anything else? Tried all ports, different PC, confirmed the 10m works etc..

A serious techy business reason.
(routed down into the basement and up through a cavity wall attached to a TV)
Edit: never thought there was a limit, but it seems 5m is it.

You can get USB extenders that operate over Cat5. I remember researching them for a problem at work.

Seems to be different lengths for USB 2,3 + C:
"The maximum length of a USB extension cable depends on the USB version and whether you're using an active cable: USB 2.0: The maximum length is 5 meters (16.4 feet) for a regular cable, and 30 meters (98.5 feet) for an active cable. USB 3.0 and 3.1: The maximum length is 3 meters (9.8 feet) for a regular cable, and 18 meters (59 feet) for an active cable. USB Type-C: The maximum length is 4 meters for a passive cable"

It's quite simple - attach webcam to TV with standard 1m cable (for max performance), then enlarge hole and install one of these - done.

And depends on what port you plug it into I'd imagine. This is webcam -> 2m USB2 -> 10m active USB3 -> USB2 or 3 port.

At work everyone is obsessing over when the first officially supported Linux ARM laptops are going to hit the shelves. E.g. a Dell XPS we can reasonably get expensed.
Well in lieu of anyone ever letting us expense MacBooks.

I've been seriously eyeing up the XPS with a snapdragon X elite for a personal device, but it still feels a bit too soon to make the jump (plus Ableton doesn't work on them yet, not that I ever actually use it)

It seems like Qualcomm have gone with loads of non standard boot choices for the Snapdragon X, which is making it hard to get any kind of device profile working with the 'nix kernel presently. So everyone is keeping a close eye on the various tech websites for ANY news.
I'm pretty sure all our tooling works with ARM. I mean helpfully MS don't fucking produce Linux builds of anything anymore so it's basically a browser + programming toolchain + docker etc.
Though any time I run teams in the browser at the minute it seems to try and kill my Ubuntu laptop. It barely works with Firefox and Chrome is the one it tries to kill. MS stuff is such jank.
