Ergh IT have it in their head to lock down office 365 to Edge only "for security", in theory so that compromised laptops can be blocked. You can literally end all sessions, change the password and everyone has 2FA. It achieves nothing. I strongly suspect some MS bullshit in a webinar to cause vendor lock-in.

Didn't know where to put this, so here will do.
What is the best way to connect a USB C display to an HDMI source?
I can find lots of options for outputting Usb C to HDMI but nothing the other way around. Any ideas?
Edit:
Finally found something that looks like it will do the job. Nothing to see here.

So work have decided that ..."Part of this new AUP will be asking you to stop connecting to personal email (Gmail, Yahoo etc) from any issued computer (apps or webmail). We’ll also be reducing the number of different Chat / IM apps present in our fleet (other than business approved apps) and we’ll be asking for non-sanctioned apps (Telegram, Signal, Discord, etc) to be uninstalled and removed. We’ll be doing the same for remote access apps too, asking that only XXXXXXXXXX sanctioned apps be used and asking for the removal of non-sanctioned apps."
This is going to be a pain for me with travel as I like to use my work laptop to chat to people on WhatsApp and GMail (easier than typing on the phone), Plex and my server I set up stuff to watch in the hotel at night etc.
I've thought about sticking a VM on there and doing it all in that, but that isn't really in the spirit of things. Any suggestions or do I need to start carting about a personal laptop as well as a work one, which is a pain when on the train and/or flying rather than in the car.

Yikes. I'm surprised they let you get away with it until now.
Definitely use a personal device instead imo.

From a security perspective, that first paragraph makes my blood run cold. Holy shit.

I suppose the upside is the fact that they are asking you nicely rather than saying 'as of Monday, this is blocked' means you can probably just ignore it and nobody will seemingly be any the wiser.

Even Govt wised up to that a long time ago. When we first moved to Google, the app store was blocked but I was just able to sign in on my personal account and download whatever. I mean, I didn't (aside from a keyboard), but could have done.

Christ that sounds miserable, I basically use my work Mac as my main home PC too. It's got Steam and all sorts on there.

We’ve had laptops set for work use only for a while, but we’ve recently realised that we’ve let users have carte blanche on their company mobiles, so that needs winding back, telling them to get their own mobile will be fun.

Oh, I only have a work issued mobile too and always thought it odd seeing people with two like they are a drug dealer or something.
Probably easier if I just stop leaving the house 😊

I'm constantly bombarded by security emails about 'suspicious activity' in our AWS accounts, which is nearly always something trivial like some kind of permissions check on an S3 bucket from someone looking at it in the console. They just get funneled into a folder that I ignore now.
It's like security folk have never heard the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

We have a team who's entire job it is to tune all that shit out because we also have someone who's entire job it is to say 'why has this alert fired 8000 times in a day?'

I have a work phone, though seldom use it now I'm WFH, I guess I could have just used that and ditched my own phone but I'll be damned if I want to see emails or whatever popping up outside of working hours.

Dual phones are a pain in the arse, but you definitely need to have some kind of separation imo. I had a dual SIM phone in my last job and set up work stuff in a work profile, but that made switching off at the end of the day even harder and probably helped lead to my inevitable burnout.
I've just point blank refused to have emails on anything that's not my work laptop in this job. So much better for work/life balance.

My work phone is my only phone, and that's saved me a fortune in phone bills over the years. Seeing work notifications in evenings doesn't bother me, I find it pretty easy to ignore even things that seem "urgent" until the next day - but I switch off all notifications when I'm on holiday.
It does mean that I'm a bit more wary about seeing NSFW content accidentally - I don't browse Twitter on the work phone any more for that reason (thanks for that Elon)

My wife has started a new job and they haven't sorted her work phone out yet (well, it arrived, but locked to a different network as they bought it from an Amazon reseller). So until that's sorted, she's stuck her new work account on her phone. And is then fretting about work already before bed etc.

Have a long, boring talk with her about time theft. Unless they are paying her to read that email at 9pm, get fucked.
I don't have a work phone or my emails on it. My compromise is that I'm in the team WhatsApp group and I have an RSA token on my auth app.

Quite. Plus expectation management. My work phone is left untouched after 6pm latest. The world isn't going to end if I reply at 8.30am the next day.

The first thing I do with any phone that has my work emails is turn off notifications.
Just dip into Outlook and refresh when I want to check for an email - fuck work haunting me when I'm done for the day.

I just keep a hawaiian shirt nearby. If I put the shirt on, you can talk to me about work.

They've taken away all of our desk phones on the basis that we can use Teams for everything. Obviously loads of applicants, lawyers, other public servants etc now have my personal mobile number.

I just have the notifications disabled out of work hours. Perfectly easy to ignore it that way. My old job we had a weird ass long meeting about a team charter around this stuff. Like everyone having to announce their work hours etc.
The whole thing just ended with, turn off your fucking notifications and nobody expects anything done at 9pm stop trying to micro manage everyone else or come up with more tech (they suggested writing a slack bot at one point).

So they haven’t kept the desk phone numbers and assigned them to Terms voice? That way you still use your desk phone number but it rings in Teams. You can also get the Teams app on your mobile and use your desk phone number.

Didn't have a landline when we used Google, mobile only. But when we moved to Teams, a landline number was assigned in Teams. Freaked me the fuck out. Who rings people internally these days?! Just IM me, I don't want to talk to people.
