I'm being stupid and waiting for Black Friday now - tiny chance the C3 will go quite low or I'll be able to get the TV from a more established store with a 5Y Guarantee such as Currys or John Lewis. To be fair that ebayer does look OK, as they're an established retail outlet and seem to have good reviews (trust pilot etc) though don't know how good their extended warranty is/works. Also, their facebook page is not plagued by begrudging customers complaining about poor customer service, whereas Currys is filled to the brim and JL is not a whole lot better.

Heh, I used to work at Currys in my Uni days, always had a soft spot for them - any particular reason to avoid? It's not like any of the retailers are making the TV. Curry’s are cunts. My mum bought a laptop from there not long ago and the sales guy tried to tell her it didn’t have an OS and it wouldn’t work without buying one as an extra. It’s full of scumbags that try to take advantage of people’s ignorance.

And I think they have form for slopey shouldering any issues, telling you to contact the manufacturer. Despite the contract being with them as the retailer.

Haha, just got done with a remote session with a customer who was running out of space on their server's C: drive. I notice that the DBs data and log files are being kept on said C: drive in the SQL installation path, and suggest they should go on the designated D: and E: drives which are labelled DATA and LOGS respectively. I also say that if snapshots are being taken then the huge log files may not be too useful anyway but acknowledge this is up to them to debate. He Teams calls one of his IT nerds who doesn't know I can hear him.
(Professor Frink voice) "I'm deeply concerned at the stupidity of the third party here, as that is completely irrelevant. We take full server snapshots of the C: drive and use the dedicated E: drive for the log files anyway. That's like asking 'what colour is your car'."
I just put up a screenshot of the files being on the C: drive.
He ummed and ahhed and muttered some utter bullshit about how it's SQL's default behaviour to use the D: and E: drives (no it isn't) and a software update must have moved them. He's going to move them "back".

I mean what a fucking dick. Even if he was right, he knows full well that the question was relevant and why I would ask such a thing.
Tell you what if you know so much, fix it your damn self

I'd be fucking embarrassed to pass a basic ticket like that to a third party to begin with without doing a little bit of investigation first. What an unprofessional twat!

The "you heard that then " from the main contact was pretty amusing at least Most of the time having IT people on the other end of the call is a breath of fresh air and they make life easy for me, but occasionally you get someone whose mission is solely to be the person in the room who knows the most about the technology and therefore gets to talk down to you. Like, firstly who the fuck cares and secondly if you know everything why are you calling me for advice then

Just in case anyone is struggling with M365 admin portals this morning, MS messaged they are investigating issues:
Published Time: 10/11/2023 09:24:33
Title: Unable to access one or more Microsoft 365 services
User impact: Users may be unable to access one or more Microsoft 365 services.
More info: Users who are able to access the service may experience latency.
Current status: We're investigating a potential issue and checking for impact to your organization. We'll provide an update within 30 minutes.
Scope of impact: Impact is specific to a subset of users who are accessing the service from Germany and the United Kingdom.
Only way I could get the message was from my mobile phone, using the Admin app - all other URLs timeout (for me, at least).

Cool. Time to notify our L1 guys, who will just ignore it and escalate any issues.

Finally bought the LG 48 OLED C2 @ £799 after my 16 year old Panasonic Viera was ruined by some idiot (me) rubbing off a big chunk of the anti-glare protection thinking it was a stain.
Now I'm skint but at least have a long list of films to watch while eating baked beans.

I continue to loathe our move from Google office to Microsoft. Office 365 seems to still be weirdly riddled with bugs and doesn't work properly in Firefox often. With the helpful suggestion of just install Edge... On Ubuntu. Arseholes.
Next manager who helpfully suggests Windows Server for anything is basically starting a fight.

Yeah, Microsoft's web based stuff is often a shit experience unless you use their recommended browser. Chromium Edge is a decent browser these days though. What little of it I've used on my Steam deck has worked well too.

I've got a long running habit of using chromium for personal use and Firefox for work so I don't confuse all the logins and bookmarks.
It's mostly a moan at MS being dicks. We got a new managing director who has been getting everything moved over to Office, mostly so he can look at stuff in excel. Though of course the office license came with loads of free goodies like Teams, as MS are bastards. It did hit a limit when he tried to get everyone to use Teams over slack insisting it was better (rather than cheaper), well that and the mutiny when he tried to get engineering to use Windows machines.

the take I saw that seems plausible was "lied a bit when reassuring board that model training wasn't done on gazillions of copyrighted works which could sue us into oblivion" but "rise of the machines" remains briefly entertaining before our inevitable species-wide extinction
doesn't seem remotely amicable so guess there'll be some shit-flinging in the near future

I didn't see a thread that deals exclusively with Android tablets, so hopefully this is an acceptable place to ask for insight. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S7+ FE tab. (For those that are interested. 8GB RAM + 128GB storage). It's a decent tablet and fulfills its primary purpose of being a comic book reader for me. I've had it for two years and the battery is starting to show signs of aging. Thanks to Black Friday, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is currently going for £799, but on top of that, *any* Samsung Galaxy S7+ FE is going to get a trade-in of £310. Bringing the price down to a frankly obscene £489.
No other permutation of tablet and trade-in for a Samsung tablet that is 12.4" and currently on the Samsung site, will come close to that. Which suggests I am getting myself a new tablet for christmas. Unless some sensible soul on this site can talk me out of it.

Obviously probably not of interest in your extravagant price range but I recently bought one of these for comics and it's absolutely superb. Deal: HONOR Pad X9, 11.5-inch Wi-Fi Tablet, 4GB+128GB, 120Hz 2K Fullview Display, 6 Speakers, Android 13, Space Grey amzn.eu/d/cJJC7gq

I've been good this year. Just like those girls that wash their hair with L'Oreal, I believe I should have the best tablet around, because I am worth it

We have a pair of Lenovo M10's in this household, also 4GB+128GB, one new at about £165 and the other about £80 off Marketplace if memory serves they've been pretty good but sounds like you'll not be swayed.

Admittedly I haven't used any of the alternatives mentioned above, but I'd definitely go straight for another Galaxy tab to replace my S8 if that ever develops battery issues and there are trade in deals like that available. Rock solid performer and feels nice and premium.

It is done. I have paid my dosh to get a Samsung Ultra. But what is surprising is that Samsung clearly do not have enough stock of their own their own goods. Bought today, but they are not delivering until 27/12/23. BOO! I was hoping to have it for christmas. Should have bought it yesterday, instead of canvassing sensible voices to be fiscally responsible and buy something less extravagant.
I know myself and knew that was never going to happen. But it's all good.

(h/t Rob Manuel of b3ta) The Economic Crime & Corporate Transparancy Act 2023 ( www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2023/56/enacted) restricts company names which, in the opinion of the Secretary of State, consist of or include computer code after one Michael Tandy attempted to register with Companies House a new company "; DROP TABLE “COMPANIES”; — LTD,"
