Boiled potatoes with no seasoning, butter etc. is not the greatest food in the world so potatoes are terrible. Killer logic on display.

Are we in "ban pls" territory here? To be honest though, a lot of foods would be pretty shite (or at least boring) without their toppings/seasonings. Imagine unseasoned and unsauced BBQ ribs or pulled pork. Even most otherwise untouched steaks have some sort of seasoning as part of the prep work. Pizza without cheese/sauce and toppings is just bread with some extra crust, most salads have some sort of dressing to go along with them and so on. Point being, sure pasta on its own may be a bit bland (and even then people can infuse the noodles with all sorts of things) but you can't really judge just that one dish by the "no toppings or sauces" standard and let everything else have them, that's just unfair I agree regarding the toppings/sauces but they just don't do enough to make it interesting. And they're ALWAYS cheese or tomato based. Where's the variety?! Don't get me started on salads either. Cucumber is the worst food on the planet. I'm on a roll today! You should have tried good restaurants in Italy and you'd have seen that they're not always cheese or tomato based.

Blimey. The Streets are good and pasta is awful. rhaegyr might just have won this thread for today. Original Pirate Material and A Grand Don't Come for Free are fantastic albums. Most of his output after this was fairly rubbish but these two stand the test of time. Still get goosebumps from listening to 'Empty Cans'.

They have an annoying habit of using fresh ingredients, fucking mental I know! If you don't have at least 1 botulism risk in your dish, there's no fun.

Paella is vastly overrated. Do you mean paella amongst other rice dishes from the Valencia Communidad? If so, they you have a point. Give me a senyoret any day instead.

I don't have the widest tastes in food but me and the other half eat out semi-often and I'll genuinely try anything once. Only cuisine I'm not a major fan of is Thai (too fragrant for me though I've not eaten a lot of it).
At home I'm a typical northerner - lots of meat, fish and potatoes. Cook quite a lot but each every recipe usually has one of those three things (with a ton of spices or different ways of cooking).
When out I'll try whatever, usually something I've not eaten before - if there's nothing new on the menu I'll usually go with, shock, something meat or fish based.
We also have a kids tea once a week (despite not having kids) - potato waffles, turkey dinosaurs, frozen chicken nuggets, chips, sausage and beans - all that good stuff.

I also agree on the pasta thing fwiw. I find that it's a bit shit. I don't dislike it to the same extent but it's way down on my list of things I want to eat. There's always something just a bit unsatisfying about it.
I love rice and noodles so they are my carbs of choice. Pasta is just a bit too wibbly in my mouth.

Were they just taster portions? Where's the rest of it? It's in Italy, pasta is served as a "primi" first course in a relatively small portion. The massive plate of pasta isn't a thing in restaurants there. I obviously had other courses

But I'm happy to extend it, I mean it's not terrible. I could eat it but have no desire to do so. Same for Biryani but at least that seems properly cooked.

That was my favourite dish of the trip, it was amazing. Bigoli in salsa. Just pasta, olive oil, anchovies, onions and seasoning (afaik). Soooo good.
