Yeah, I had shoulder pads and blonde highlights and pixie boots. Thankfully I was also usually quite drunk and when I wasn't, I was dancing away.
Before I joined the military, I didn't swear, drink or anything. None of that lasted long and when I discovered nightclubs, I just danced* all night. I loved the music.

Are you lot still waffling on about Coldplay and the like? 80's was where it was at. Flippin' youngsters. I saw Coldplay as the support act for Muse in 2000 or thereabouts at the Pyramids*. They were really shit. Muse were good. It was the Showbiz tour and that was a good record. *The leisure centre in Pompey, not the last surviving Wonder of the World

I have butterscotch skin and and thick hair so it worked extra good. Wish I was still that thin and cute.

Muse were great, were being the operative word. If not for them I would not of met my wife. They had 3 and a half stonking albums but as mentioned earlier practically died in 07. The Resistance and any thing after is just not very good. Apparently the new song is alright, I should probably give it a listen. I also have a couple of boxes full of Muse collectables, early LPs, rare cds, promo singles and stuff. A quick ebay check shows some are going for quite a bit too so that is something I guess.

Butterscotch skin sounds like something an elderly paedo would love.

Also salute to Under the Cherry Moon.

Bellamy definitely has a technically superior voice, it’s ridiculous. But he uses it like a male Mariah Carey, jumping up 4 octaves at a time just because he can. Stuff like Micro Cuts feels more like an exercise in showing off than songwriting.
Yorke’s a crooner but there’s emotion in the voice, and I’ll take feeling over chops any time.

the reason why I prefer Muse to Radiohead is because Muse just lean into ridiculous metal riffs in a way that Radiohead Muse is better because they have a touchpad on their guitar. That is more awesome than anything Radiohead have. It is awesome, though had Radiohead not started using a Kaoss pad live first would one still have ended up being built into his guitar?

I don't like Radiohead or Muse.
I'm not saying either is shit, but they're not for me. One of my best mates plays Radiohead almost exclusively, so it's not just that I haven't heard the right albums or songs, either.
Bring on the lynching.

The Bends was great but then the best indie guitarist since Jon Squire decided he wanted to play the fucking xylophone through a pitch bender while Thom Yorke was lost in a K-Hole and OK Computer happened

I cannot for the life of me get into Muse at all. The sound of Matt's voice actively makes me want to hurt myself.

Google always seems to interpret "play some music" as "play some Muse", so my hatred for them is probably a little unjustified.
Knights of Cydonia is an OK song.
Radiohead are in a different league to them. Not sure why we're even comparing the two here...

I know I said The Bends is my favorite Radiohead album, but like every Radiohead album is excellent. Wild take probably but Radiohead is the greatest band of all time. I might like other GROUPS more, like Massive Attack and Wu-Tang, and I might like solo artists more, like Prince and James Brown, but BANDS, nobody fucks with Radiohead, IMO.

I really like Showbiz, Bellamy didn't seem to feel (or, perhaps, have) the vocal range back then, so it's mostly decent riffs and well constructed songs.
I have the ltd edition clear vinyl, could be worth a few quid now

They just depress me post-Bends. I listen to Amnesiac and Insomniac, but only when I'm not in a good place. I've given most of their output a spin because I know they're objectively very good at what they're doing but nah, not for me.

To be honest though, this is the unpopular thread, but I remember being mad impressed seeing Bellamy float between guitar, vocals, and piano all in the same song live.
I saw them live at The Mayan in LA when they were getting a name in the US (though I liked them since Showbiz because I'm a nerd and was MAD SNOB in my teens), and there was no barrier between the stage and us. I was literally dick level with the stage, right in front of Matt, and my cousin was a creep touching Chris' toes.

Why is Muse Vs Radiohead even being mentioned, they're not even similar.
Radiohead are a decent band for a start.

I saw Muse do an acoustic set as a support act in an intimate venue courtesy of XFM very early in their career. Matthew Bellamy stuck around the bar after the set. He is a short man.

I just went on YouTube to watch some recent Muse and got an advert for a weight loss program. From James Corden. That's like Reich Said Fred advertising a barbers.

I never got Muse, always seemed like wank, maybe I should try again to see if I'll like them now I'm old. I saw them at a festival once and they bored me to tears.

I saw Muse on the tour for Absolution at the MEN Arena, fucking worst live gig I've ever been to. I do hate stadiums mind. A-fucking-greed. I've been to 2 stadium gigs (Wembley Arena and the O2) and they are easily the worst gigs I've ever been to. Queue for an hour to get in. An hour for a drink. No cloakroom so enjoy being unbearably hot in your winter coat. Watch overrated band on screen for two hours while morons in their thousands inexplicably lose their minds all around you. Queue for further hours to exit the arena, then exit the complex and finally for the tube home. Savour the excruciating need to piss because you couldn't bear another queue to relieve yourself before leaving the venue. Arrive home, sprint to the loo and then stare in horror for an hour at the price of the ticket you purchased, and accept that this. THIS. is what hell will be unless you change your ways

Queue for an hour to get in We used to queue all day when shows were at Wembley Stadium. Saw U2 there, we queued from 9am, doors opened at 5pm. Pretty standard in those days, I think. If you wanted to be anywhere where you could actually see.

So weird how that happens though. I saw Radiohead live at a festival and an outdoor amphitheatre, someone said they're not good in a big arena. They should be in a small club. I saw Muse in a small club, people saying they're both a big stadium band, and also not good at a big arena.
FWIW, keeping Prince out of the conversation becauase he's SSSSSSS tier and maybe only comparable to James Brown and George Clinton, band-wise Radiohead is one of the best I've ever seen. But honestly, British groups are consistently the best shows I've seen. Massive Attack, Portishead, MUSE, Tricky, Prodigy.
You "lot" have a tendency to focus on the visual AS WELL as the aural, so whether it's explosions during Creep and Street Spirit or Bellamy dancing guitaring singing pianoing around, or Massive Attack having a big woke liberal light show, or just fuckin' Tricky lighting up a spliff and grunting his way through Pumpkin, y'all never ever disappoint.
