Not to mention the pervasive creepiness of course. Yes, this. Not to go all MrTom, but it's got a streak of lot of misogyny running right through it. Every single bloke in it has an emotionally dysfunctional attitude to women but that's fine because hey they really love them so that's romantic.

This is nothing like MrTom because it's actually a good point and isn't condescending and hypocritical

The hardest things about driving in the US are: 1) Other drivers. American drivers are shit 2) Their stupid rear indicators 3) Turning out of a junction with no traffic management. You WILL check for traffic the wrong way and nearly get hit by another car. 4) Having pedestrians get a green light to cross while traffic is turning into the street. I've never understood that one as you end up with drivers trying to drive through tight gaps in the crowds. 5) Having highway junctions so close together that people are trying to join and exit on the same hundred yard stretch of tarmac.

6) Having off-ramps on both sides of the highway so that it becomes even more of a Mad Max free-for-all with people diving off in every direction and at every speed.

Being able to turn on red when clear is a genius move though and I'm amazed it hasn't made its way anywhere else.

We used to have little green right arrows under the green light that indicated that you could do that. They disappeared some 20 years ago for some reason (eu laws compatibility possibly) and have been replaced by actual green arrow lights. They’re on most intersections. I’ve seen those in Germany, too.

It's like most things, when you experience it suddenly and in a small space of time like a holiday trip, it's horrible and stressful and idiotic. But long term you adapt and it's all fine. I felt the same frustration with UK roads recently, after having been away for several years. Every trip out felt like "absolutely fucking not" but if I had to deal with it every day it'd be fine.

I like the wide roads, mmmmm what a pleasure. Fucking West London with motorways that turn into 20mph zones and narrow streets filled with parked cars.
I'm good with Love Actually, the storylines are all trash but I like to see an idealised London at Christmas. It fills me with seasonal spirit.

First time I ever drove an automatic was when I rented a car in Los Angeles. That was also the first time I ever drove a car in America. I spent a lot of time in their parking lot getting to grips with the thing after asking what PND etc all meant. Driving out of the lot into LA traffic that was all on the wrong side of the road wasn't pleasant, but I got used to it by the time I hit the coast highway. I keep wanting to get an automatic ever since my knee got buggered up. Next car hopefully. Pretty much the same as me but in downtown Boston! Very scary drive to the hotel in the dark. But once I got to grips with it I loved it. It was a Ford Fusion hybrid

Speaking of unpopular opinions on Christmas movies, I absolutely love Jingle All The Way and make a point of watching it EVERY Xmas eve without fail.

It isn't Christmas time until it's been Turbo Time.

I actually rang home and asked someone what it was. That was an expensive call I found out later. Fortunately I wasn't in rush hour and I was in the NW part of LA, so it wasn't too big a drive to the coast road. But still, that was a sweaty palm drive.

People who drive Landover Defenders are either farmers or cnuts. Or both, obviously.

When I was 12 I told the classic "What's the difference between a rangerover and a hedgehog" ("With a rangerover the pricks are on the inside") joke in front of some of my dad's friends, except I altered it to landrover (to me they were the same thing anyway), and it turned out both said friends owned landrovers. Some red faces but not mine, I just smiled angelic-ly.
I was later chastised for this but I don't regret it to this day.

I'd be disappointed if a 12 year old didn't think I was a prick

I’ve only driven an automatic twice, once in Hawaii in a Mustang convertible which was awesome. I did have to get the hire car Man to tell me how to make it move which I think scared him a bit. The other time was U.K. in a BMW and it was horrible, pulling away from a junction at the speed I was expecting was so hit and miss.
I prefer manuals for the low speed control but accept one day I’ll have to go to an auto.

You also get a feel for how to manipulate the automatic gear changes.

Worth noting that the default transmission option for a 911 Turbo S is Porsche's PDK dual clutch auto. And fucking spectacular it is, too.
The days of the manual are numbered.

When I was about 23 I said something to my step-mum’s brother about “the kind of pricks that wear a big gold Rolex and have a BMW with a private plate”. He then showed me the big gold Rolex he was wearing, and his BMW with a private plate. I stand by my comments.

I went to school with a pretty annoying kid who had a big expensive watch (dunno if it was a rolex, I've never cared about watches enough to tell) and drove shiny white BMW aged 17/18.
Now that kid plays Nandor the Relentless in What We Do In The Shadows so I guess I forgive him.

The time between Halo and Halo Infinite is 25% longer than the time between Super Mario Bros and Halo.

The time between Halo and Halo Infinite is 25% longer than the time between Super Mario Bros and Halo. Holy shit, that's like realising there's more time between the Stegosaurus and the T-Rex than there is between the T-Rex and us. Or that's there's more time between the Pyramids being built and Cleopatra, than between Cleopatra and now.
