Unpopular Opinion: I like black friday.
I have 4x birthdays (including my own) in december and, obviously, christmas so I have done all that shit in one weekend.
'But its usually cheaper throughout the year'
Yes, fine but I dont usually want high value items at 3am for the two hours something was cheap in february. Its a day I know things are going to be cheaper not the cheapEST

I actually like the bit when Hugh Grant is trying to flirt with his assistant in the car and the moon-face kid is sitting between them. You people.

That scene at the end where PM Hugh Grant grabs a big handful of Tiffany from Eastenders arse at the airport is probably Boris Johnson's sole motivation for wanting to become Prime Minister.

I've never seen Love Actually, I'll hate it but tempted as I had a soft spot for Tiffany from Eastenders back in the day.

Its really no better or worse than all the other curtis movies. The difference is that he is a pretty bad director and at least the movies he just wrote had a more steady pair of hands at the helm.
He just took 'write what you know' very literally and made a career of producing movies about vaguely amusing upper-middleclass people.

I think the UK is slowly becoming one of the worst countries to drive a manual in. The opportunity to open it up and enjoy driving for what it is (surely the advantage of a manual) is slowly becoming zero. At least where I live you've got either stop/start traffic, roadworks, old people not having any idea what's happening around them, or you're driving steady down anonymous British A-roads or motorway.
The amount of driving I do where my manual is actually any advantage must be less than 1%.

Love Actually is fine. It's not a film I can get upset about

I like Love Actually very much. It's not demanding in any way, I can just put it on and feel happy whenever.
I have both an auto and a manual, I don't care either way. The manual makes me a lot more aware of what's going on with and around the car, though, so I drive a lot more aggressively. I just coast in the auto like some sort of uncle.

I'm not sure the ones he writes are any better, mainly due to his total inability to write convincing fully rounded female characters.

It's hideously cynical imo, every element seems coldly calculated along the lines of 'what will the yanks find most endearingly British?'

Not to mention the pervasive creepiness of course.
And that scene with the guy out of Teachers at Keira Knightley's door has to be the most fist-chewingly excruciating thing ever committed to film.

It's such a fucking odious film. The wife was talking about watching it the other day and I think I talked her out of it.

Don't all automatics have tiptronic gears now anyway? I drive a cheapy Polo and even that has got them. Unless you really love pumping that clutch, I don't see any advantage to a manual.

Electric cars don't have any of the annoyances of ICE automatics anyway, so we are all heading to a brighter future.

One of the reasons have the auto as a family car is that auto boxes on small cars tend to be garbage. Its a late stage motoring irony that city cars are the ones you would likely most want an auto in but have the shittest boxes for cost savings.
The rule of thumb is that you need to be at a focus/golf size before you get one that isnt sluggish and doesnt get confused easily.

We test drove a CX-3 with an auto and the gearbox was so ridiculously loud we passed it up quickly.

First a popular opinion: the clickbait work being done on this thread is very helpful.
I find Love Actually really fascinating, it's a series of very creepy, unromantic stories, told from a male power fantasy perspective. And every one thinks it's a cozy romcom for Christmas.
It's the film version of "Baby it's cold outside".

Love an auto. Much more fun for everyday driving and if I want to have even more fun on twisty roads, switch to the paddles. There's just no need for manuals.

I loathed it with a passion but could never precisely nail it beyond that it was creepy AF, but that's it, it's just basically a pile of male power fantasy stories.

First time I ever drove an automatic was when I rented a car in Los Angeles. That was also the first time I ever drove a car in America. I spent a lot of time in their parking lot getting to grips with the thing after asking what PND etc all meant. Driving out of the lot into LA traffic that was all on the wrong side of the road wasn't pleasant, but I got used to it by the time I hit the coast highway. I keep wanting to get an automatic ever since my knee got buggered up. Next car hopefully.

The idea of driving in America terrifies me even though on paper it should be painfully simplistic. With the size of the roads how are people ever in the correct lane? Also isn't there some rule about you being able to run red lights if you're turning right? Is this a universal rule or does it depend on the junction?

Also the idea (unless television has lied to me) that at any moment a criminal will come screaming past chased by one hundred completely untrained policeman who will stop at nothing to ram the car off the road and shoot at it with their guns with absolutely no regard to innocent motorist and pedestrians.

On big intersections, you just follow the oil trails to keep in lane. Works every time. You can turn right through reds unless there's a sign that specifically prohibits it. I got used to it very quickly (and very impatient of other tourists who couldn't get their heads around it). I also took to gesturing, driving like an aggressive arsehole and swearing in Italian when driving in Italy. I'm like a driving Zelig.

The red light thing caught me out first time I was at one and people were beeping me. I did appreciate the roundabout at Santa Barbara which was apparently new and confusing the locals. I didn't appreciate the undertaking so much.
One thing I didn't really appreciate is the distances. I got in my car near Fort Knox at 5am one morning to drive to Pennsylvania and the satnav said "Straight for 200 miles and then turn left". That was disheartening to hear.
Way more trees in America than I expected too (NY to New Orleans and back again).

Don't tell Liam Neeson his storyline was the second worst in Love Actually.

The hardest things about driving in the US are:
1) Other drivers. American drivers are shit
2) Their stupid rear indicators
3) Turning out of a junction with no traffic management. You WILL check for traffic the wrong way and nearly get hit by another car.
