I have to drive manuals, it's the only way I can resist pleasuring myself at 40mph

I have to drive manuals, it's the only way I can resist pleasuring myself at 40mph That might be the best reason for driving a manual I've ever read. We have one of each, but if you want to know where my proclivities lie, they don't even make a manual for my car.

This is not an unpopular opinion. It's not even an opinion. That's just straight up true facts.

The old thread was 99% taking the piss out of that guy who couldn’t work out how to drive a manual (which is fine in itself) but then had some weird superiority complex over it.

It would be a double whammy, since a leftie tickle would be pretty exotic and if I ever got the taste I'd never relent

Huh, one thing I remember from my time living in Blighty is that you lot had a weird thing for manual cars. It was a long time ago however

There are two things going on.
1. All the nicer cars are automatics. Anybody who has driven an automatic will say they're nicer to drive.
2. You could do your driving test on an automatic, but that meant that you could only ever drive automatics and never a manual. So if you had one of them, you had the idiot's version of a driving licence, because you were not allowed to drive all cars like a normal person would (the vast majority do their test on a manual).
Automatics are nicer to drive, but if you're doing it by necessity rather than choice you're not a proper driver.

People who drive manuals are sexual deviants who otherwise would be tugging away on the M6 northbound watching all the Eddie Stobarts undertake him while middle lane driving

Automatic cars because the most fun car is boring anyway compared to the least fun motorcycle

Thanks to WFH and binning the commute I don’t have to compromise on the ‘auto for miles, manual for fun’ choice anymore.
My manual car is for a quick b-road blast and we use the wife’s auto car if we actually have to drive anywhere.
I much prefer a manual if I’m engaged in ‘driving’ but if I’m just getting from A to B, auto every day.

I used to prefer driving autos because a) I'm lazy and b) I had to do a lot of miles for work and grew to loathe driving but once you have a shoulder injury and a missus with fucked knees, you've entered into the hallowed superannuated realm of autos being a life necessity.

In 20 years manual should be super rare, as we'll all be zipping about in our electric cars.

According to my MOT, I did 900 miles last year. I think it would leave a bigger carbon footprint if I just sent it to the knackers yard

There's just something satisfying about sitting in the driver's seat and handling the gear knob next to you. Don't know what it is

Had an auto for the last two years and just switched back to a manual. Was very surprised that I was able to pick it up within a minute, but yeah I’d never have a manual again out of choice. Autos are just so inexplicably rare in this country that if you want a decent, cheap used car quickly at the moment then you’ve got no chance.

Anyway, another unpopular opinion: all the critiques about Love Actually being terrible and quite offensive are 100% accurate, but I still love it.

Got an auto and a manual car. Both are great to drive in their own way
For everyday pootling about though, auto is the way

I know a few people who like Doctor Who, but who have been critical of it ever since the Doctor was cast as a female. I think it's been a bit shit ever since the initial Christopher Eccles-cake run of modern Who. It may have been shit in the original seasons but frankly can't recall much from those days. This was prescient

That's got a manual shift (flappy paddles) but I've never actually used it.

The only good story in Love Actually is Bill Nighy and Gregor Fisher.

I actually like the bit when Hugh Grant is trying to flirt with his assistant in the car and the moon-face kid is sitting between them.
