Children are horrible little things, I can't stand them and I honestly can't imagine why anyone would want one. I agree with this unpopular opinion.

'Manufactured' pop music can be every bit as deep, meaningful and artistically valid as any other style. Examples?

Christmas food, actually any holiday food is just shit.
If Christmas food was any good we would just call it food and eat it all yer round rather than inflicting it on ourselves just once a year.

Having a child is a completely selfish act, not the selfless one that all parents seem to see it as.
Especially with how fucked the world is these days.

We did this in the climate change thread, and I don't think any of the Fontgeek parents were saying it's selfLESS to have kids. The vibe was more like, if everyone who's worried about climate change chooses not to have kids, the world will still be a mess and it will be full of people whose parents were twats

I’m not sure I understand how you can tell that all parents think having a child is a selfless act? It’s not something I think I’ve ever heard anyone discuss.

Having lots of kids is, maybe. We do kind of need children to ensure the survival of our species however. So its not really a binary issue.

Fair enough, not all parents.
It's just that air of smugness at having done the world a huge favour by squeezing little Timmy and Tabitha out that grates with me.

If I allowed myself to eat pigs in blankets all year round I'd almost certainly a) be fatter be b) have arteries as hard as a rock. And possibly c) be dead. I don't get the point of having a massive Christmas dinner though. Over-eating is shit, I hate feeling overly-full. Some family members seem to think eating a massive Christmas dinner or huge carvery is a good thing, I just feel sick and tired after a huge meal.

Did people who hate kids self-flagellate when they were young I wonder?

Again, I don’t really understand. I don’t know anyone who is smug at being a parent. If anything a lot of people seem the opposite, to resent it.
Good unpopular opinion I guess.

As far as kids go I could start spouting anti-natalist stuff.
The idea that conceiving a child is a non-consensual act, where the sentient being being created will over the course of their life probably feel more negative emotions than positive.
I don't fully subscribe to that way of thinking as it's a bit daft but I find it hard to argue against some of the logic.
I mean, the main reason why I don't want kids is because I have zero paternal instinct and find them annoying. But there is definitely part of me that would not want to create a being that then faces decades of trudging through life.
The state of the world is another consideration, I wouldn't want to bring kids into this world.
Ultimately it's nonsensical as it's impossible to get an unborn entities view as they don't exist, but speaking personally if I'd been able to know beforehand exactly what this "existing" comprises of I'd have opted out.

I'd disagree, it's mixed at worst, you could say some of it is pretty poor, there's a reason why people only eat turkey once a year but most people love roast potatoes and nice stuffing. French xmas food is awesome, oysters, foie gras, scallops, Yule log. And Japan has KFC, who doesn't love KFC? Bloody hell, I forgot to mention panettone, mmmmmmm.

Well you've all convinced me, I've packed them all a bag each and have changed the locks. I can now extend my Labrador family. (or is that bad too?).
I think having kids for most people is just another stop on the "life train". School, further education, jobs, marriage, kids, dogs or cats. I don't think most people put too much thought into it, maybe we should. Not sure if it's selfish, but I like visiting my parents, seeing my sisters, seeing their kids all together, I hope my future will be like that. Instead of the environmental/AI apocalypse.

Mash has no place on a roast, as lovely as it is. Sprouts are amazing too. Fuck the haters!
Sweeping generalisation again, but I bet most people who don't like a specific veg were probably served a grim overcooked soggy puddle of it as a child and would change their mind if they tried it when properly cooked.

/still doesn't see how having a child is selfish
We are programmed, like every single other fucking living thing on this planet, to reproduce. Think you're all placing too much on to the fact that it's always purely a rational descision, as opposed to one that's at least semi-driven by genetics and instinct.

This is true. A childhood eating my mum's overdone boiled broccoli left me assuming it was just horrible. My wife's roasted tenderstem is a thing of wonder and I could eat it every day.

The overpopulation is stemming - not just from man's inability to keep his white baby juice inside his own balls - from the major technological and medical advancements over the last couple of hundred years. We have always pumped out as many children as we could, like most living things, on the basis that most of them won't live to adulthood. Couple the fact that that's hardly an issue in a number of countries, and the fact that our population is ageing through the same advancements, and there's your overpopulation. Just as much to blame. It's more difficult to ignore the aforementioned millenia of genetic programming that makes us want to have children in the first place. not saying that we sholdn't curb, we should, but getting all high and mighty over those who have had children shows certain people to be smug twats more than others.

I feel like my original point has been lost here. Even if we had infinite resources, world peace and climate change wasn't an issue, I still wouldn't want a child because they are fucking horrible little things.
