Not sure if it was the brightest thing to do considering the rising costs of everything but I just resigned from my job because it was a massive stress in my life and making me anxious and depressed. Hopefully will bounce back and find some other income soon!

I did the same last year and had an immediate sense of relief. Still glad that I did, as that place was driving me to an early grave.
Good luck, should hopefully be no problem to find something new in the current market.

Hopefully will bounce back and find some other income soon! Stress has a substantial impact on your physical and mental health so that should always take precedent over anything else. It's a good job market for candidates so I'm sure you'll find something else.

Got an interview tomorrow, kind of bricking it. Work hasn't relented, they put someone else in charge of my team a fortnight ago just to fuck with me some more. Ms Danno moved out today so the flat is half empty and I feel weird. My anx is through the roof.
I hope I get it. I can't deal with this shite any more.

Be confident and positive. They need you. It's a sellers market. I wish I could tell you about the CV I read today. It was... interesting (conceited). He was interviewed this afternoon and he was... well, as he came across in his CV. Fancy that. 😁

Think I need to pull my finger out and start looking again even though I've only been in this place a few months. Just not getting a feel for the people or the company, and I can't imagine doing my usual 5-6 year stint again here.

But maybe you can project it for the duration? Breathe and be calm as you can, take time to consider a response if you need it. Don't fidget if you can help it. And remember that you can do what they want. They wouldn't have brought you this far if not.

Getting on for almost 3 years since we were notified about my site closing. I should have really made some sort of plan for retraining. Getting very close to just deciding to wing it and see what jobs are around at the end of the year. The 10-20p payrise I've got for the last couple of years hasn't kept up with the minimum wage rises so I'll basically be on that anyway. Feeling quite lucky that I don't have a partner or kids relying on me.

Interestingly, I recently got a pay rise from work, wasn't quite what I wanted, but it did come with the proviso that more would be coming in the coming year, once the project I was doing was over. Fair enough, it's a high profile project, I am essentially overseeing the delivery of a £3.4m project. I do enjoy the job, just not the current clients, who are arseholes who keep trying to change the spec as we try to deliver it.
Anyway, I got a message from a rival company, basically head hunting me.
Keep thinking I should use the opportunity to fenagle a better pay rise sooner rather than later. I've heard bad things about working for the rival company and I love working for my current company, but considering everything, price rises, tax rises and I want to buy a house in the next year, I should just use this as leverage. But I don't want to be an arsehole.
But I think the value I am adding to the business, I'm worth more than what they are paying me. There are labourers working for caravans that are probably earning more than me.
I'm grateful to the company, I started my apprenticeship at another company, which went into administration. But I'm a mature apprentice (no subsidy) so getting another one was amazing. But I've finished now. I feel grateful for giving me the opportunity is what I am saying.
So yeah, I'm rambling. I need to do what's best for me, but also, I'm grateful to my current company. My boss is both a pain in the arse and also feels like someone who is on my side, just trying to help me as much as possible within the confines of the company.
I'm fairly certain though, that no one they could get that has the skills I do, would work for the wage I do. Which makes me feel resentful.
I'm ambivalent.
Anyway, happy lockdown anniversary people!

stuz359 - I'd start looking immediately if they pulled that "more is coming" bullshit tbh. If you can get better pay elsewhere just go for it, they've already shown how far loyalty will get you.

I'd start looking immediately if they pulled that "more is coming" bullshit tbh. If you can get better pay elsewhere just go for it, they've already shown how far loyalty will get you. TBF, my immediate boss (who I'm talking about) is my biggest fan. Just to be clear, apprentice wage was initially £16k, going to £17k after 3 month induction, then more last April, then a 25% rise form the beginning of the month. She has also started throwing overtime my way (which I know is no way to live your life but hey). So the first discussion was for one simple construction drawing (modular design engineer by trade), simple job, £250 for about 6 hours work. I'll take that. The next one, more complex, worked out (time and a half) being about £18p/h. I said that. She said I was thinking more like £25p/h. I said okay, so over the weekend that's about £400. She said, ok, let's make it £500. The only mitigating factor for me is that it's not consistent and I cannot rely on it. But I do feel like I have a boss who will fight my corner. I just wonder if I can speed up the process.

I do. But that's all I am. A walking, talking dong. It's rather difficult to convince employers they should hire you. How did it go I'm not entirely sure. It took juuuust under an hour, which is good, got on with them, but I came out feeling like I hadn't been challenged, like, at all. They liked my CV - "you've worked for proper investigation firms". And there weren't any moments where they seemed to be trying draw more out of me, so I guess my case examples were adequate, but again, it feels weird not being challenged much. Not even a "what was a difficult thing you overcame" And right at the end I mentioned that I was after 4 days a week and they were just 'yeah fine'. I dunno. It sounds more positive written down but when I was leaving it definitely felt like an all too easy ride. But then why talk to me for an hour instead of fucking me off after 20mins. I'm conflicted!

And I spoke to the recruiter afterwards and they mentioned they'd put me up at my current full salary but 4 days a week. So if that comes off it will be nice. Like 20% payhike nice.
