Some guy was having difficulties getting his wife's corpse back from Eden Prime for burial; after telling the widower that his plight was stupid, I bullied a bureaucrat until he agreed to return the body.
I did a good thing today.

The true Renegade test is how you respond to hard-hitting journalism.

I picked up my first renegade points of the run last night. Someone was trying to murder a bad scientist I wanted to arrest so I ended up shooting him and taking the scientist in.
I’m really appreciating that playing it as a story/power fantasy with the difficulty on the floor means I mostly get to pick armour based on look rather than stats. Its not as bad as the KOTOR games but ME1 has some ugly gear.
The weapon mods situation is a faff too, you collect so much, so often its barely worth looking at. Upgrading every two or three levels of kit since the incremental changes of single level upgrades don’t make any different on casual. As long as the weapon itself is the newest model everything is fine.

Yeah the whole upgrade and mod system is absolute rubbish. Part of the fun of an RPG is picking up cool loot, and this really fails at it. Thankfully the other RPG elements are good enough to make up for it.

The worst is when you’re a good few hours into it and you’re trying to loot armor or a weapon, but you’re out of inventory space because you’ve picked up too many weapon mods.
I do think the armor mods are a bit better though, because they’re less common and they can give you useful bonuses like regenerating health or extra shields. But I’ve never played it in easy mode, so I guess they’re unnecessary in that case also.

They just feel so insubstantial, an endless sea of "+7% to armor breaking, +6% to health regen" bullshit. Why do developers make loot like this? It's fucking terrible!
Bioware are far from the only culprits, mind. But they're up there.

BioWare used to write a good story then shit out a game onto it. Then they rerolled and put stats into game design at the expense of INT and CHA.

Yeah, Dragon Age Inquisition especially was a mess.
"Oh yes, Inquisitor! That mission to stop a coup in a foreign nation does sound pretty interesting, doesn't it?
But don't you worry, you can just use a menu to have your advisors handle it through text boxes. In the meantime, we have some herbs we need you to find!
Wait, why are you crying?"

I told the reporter to get lost - did I mess it up?

Oh, and is there an upgrade that gives Shepard more stamina? Guy pants like a two-lighters-a-day smoker after running 20 feet.

Tbf doing that is quite a bit more awkward as male Shep.

Default HeShep does have a very natural renegade vibe while Fem seems a good fit for paragon though
Unless I’m just a big sexist.

Yeah, that definitely wouldn't go down well on space twitter. Shepard cancelled

I'm sure you're right, AA, but I'm actually enjoying playing ME as a Renegade - the other RPGs I've played haven't offered that level of freedom. Choices, such as they are, tended to be limited to 'Be the hero' or 'Be the hero, but have a bit of an attitude about it.'

It really starts to shine in the second game, where half of the Renegade reaction prompts are you interrupting someone's big villain speech by shooting them. Or throwing them out a window. Commander Shepherd, Space Badass.

It always sounds cool to be able to be a bad guy in video games but I just can't enjoy it. I want everyone to like me and to receive praise Like blowing up Megaton in Fallout 3. I just couldn't enjoy playing that character or justify it in any way

I think the vibe they are going for in this is more "good cop/bad cop", rather than "good/evil". Though you can do some pretty morally questionable things as a Renegade, they're usually more interesting and justifiable than the "murder people for no reason" variety of evil in most RPGs.

I just couldn't enjoy playing that character or justify it in any way I'm the same. I've always struggled playing renegade in Mass Effect. Never completed a renegade run but done paragon multiple times because that's my Shepard.

I'm the same, usually, which is why this is such a nice change of pace! It has its limits, though - I've seen enough TV shows and movies to know what the outcome of approaching too fast would be in I Remember Me, and I couldn't bring myself to do it.

With this being cheap in the Steam Winter Sale in think I'll get it and try a FemnShep renegade run over Christmas on the Steam Deck.

There is some pretty horrific murder if you're going down the always renegade road. I actually had to stop that playthrough at the end of Feros because I just couldn't go on after that anymore. It was too much.

I let the gigantic space bug
go, which I guess wasn't all that Renegade-y.
In a bid to make up for it, I called the Council to explain my decision, then hung up on them when they got all pissy.
