People will still probably listen to the old RHCP stuff instead of the new crap stuff, so kinda makes sense.

People are obviously still watching shit films so I don’t see why they wouldn’t be listening to shit music.

Body Melt (1994) This was good fun. A disgusting and weird good time. A dodgy company is testing out a new vitamin drink on locals, and it pretty much messes them up. Australian body horror comedy. Fun practical effects, and a pretty funny movie too. 7.5/10

The three shells bothers me more What bothers me about the seashells is that for twenty years I assumed they were using some kind of sci-fi Star Trek magic to wipe your bum (like, lasers come out of the seashells or whatever). And it wasn't until talking to people on the internet that I realised a lot of people assume they were literally using the shells to scrape shit out of their arsehole.

John Carpenters Ghosts Of Mars - I know there has been a bit of revisionism that this is a misunderstood movie, that its a sleeper classic and people just didn't get its supposed to be dumb but its not just that. Its really ugly, its got that classic 90s (I know its 2001) 'looks like a TV movie' sheen. That horrible shot on video smear that Escape from LA had. It doesn't really look like a film. Its also appallingly acted. Natasha Henstridge is just rubbish and its doubly frustrating because Pam Grier was *right there*. It could have actually been pretty cool with her and Ice Cube leading.
Its just all very cheap. It looks cheap, feels cheap, sounds cheap. The soundtrack is pretty kick ass, though.
4/10
The Golden Child - The Deep Impact to Big Trouble In Little China's Armageddon. Eddie Murphy is really good if slightly subdued but even Prime Murphy can't really rescue what is quite a shit movie. Its just really badly directed, annoyingly pervy over the female lead and feels kind of cobbled together in a rush. I think this actually did more money than BTILC when it was released but obviously only one has stood the test of time.

Yes I'm sure two of the shells are used chopstick like to get some shit out and the third to scrape it all away. It seems far too messy. Also I know they had to put up a Lethal Weapon poster to define "The 20th" because of Joel Silver but why was it a shit one rather than the light years better OG?!

Sadly not. Had I pre-planned that would have been perfect but it was one of those films that just happened to be on, so I was to the label on my fifth beer instead.

Not to mention that some other chump has to use them after you. The guys in my office don't even know how to use a toilet brush. I'm not trusting someone to deep clean their nugs off something that I then have to scrape my own arse with.

I saw a theory that it was some kind of three stage bidet system and that three seashells is branding.
Possible that the buttons for each stage look like seashells to fit in with bathroom decor. I think the stages were gentle warm air to make you comfortable, regular bidet water jet bum wash, then a more forceful hand dryer hot air to dry.
Although using two to pinch and pull the chod out appears the more popular explanation.

hmmm I've got The Golden Child pretty high on my list, it will have to drop down to the bottom now. I used to love it as a kid, so I'm still quite fond of it but its objectively shit. By far the worst movie of his *ahem* golden period. If you've never seen it before, yeah, there are 100 better movies than this you should watch.

Yeah I loved it as a kid too, not seen it in 30 years so I may not spoil the memory.

Live action anime nonsense. I quite enjoyed it, don't get too attached to Sean Bean.

The Creator
Watched it yesterday and have mixed feelings about it - I'm a fan of the genre and explorations of AI and of Gareth Edwards (well, I think Monsters is bloody brilliant and btw Rogue One is the best SW movie).
It looks sumptuous and I think Edwards's approach to filming and CGI really pays off here - stunning locations and the addition of FX post-shoot rather than green screen. There are also quite a few decent set pieces like those tanky suicide bots on the bridge. And there are some good performances given the slender material, especially Alison Janney (I for one am here for her late career badassery).
On the other hand, it's ultimately a pretty insubstantial and dissatisfying story despite its promise. I don't really want to say much else for fear of spoilers, though it's so damn predictable I'm not sure they should be counted as such. And John David Washington...hmmm. I just don't think he's very convincing in the role he's given.
Still worth a watch.

I saw a theory that it was some kind of three stage bidet system and that three seashells is branding. I love these attempts to rationalise something that is supposed to not have an underlying explanation and to be non-intuitive, because that’s the joke. Thousands of youtube vids discussing gravity on Super Mario levels and the like because content pays the bills.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a too long streaming series that ruins it by trying to give an in-universe explanation.

It's in reference to user Freddie actually losing his shit because someone had the temerity to not say in their review on what platform they watched the film. I guess it was one of those extremely rare days where he wasn't being kind and understanding.

If it was a Star Wars film there absolutely would have been, along with an origin story for the pianist playing Jolly Green Giant at Taco Bell. Incidentally, I love Demolition Man. It's a genuinely great film, and it has a fascinating production history.

I actually prefer Fist of Legend to the original. It's less boring in the middle, there's less racism. And the fight scenes are better. Obviously Bruce Lee is very talented, but his fight scenes are rigid and completely one-sided. I don't know whether that's because it's what he wanted, or because fight choreography wasn't as developed a skill back then, or whatever. But either way, Li's fights are imo much more dynamic and interesting to watch. I dunno, maybe Lee just liked to portray that kind of character? A bit like a more charismatic version of Steven Seagal maybe? I actually prefer him in The Big Boss, where he's a flawed man whose only saving grace is that he can fight well, because otherwise the situation is clearly unmanageable for him. But yeah, I get what you mean about the fights. Still, I find more modern fight choreography to be a little too extreme. Almost anime-style. You can kinda see that in Fist of legend. I think the more grounded style such as in Enter the Dragon is more interesting, although as you said, Lee himself is rarely ever challenged. He's still damn fun to watch (that movie is a big improvement over Fist of Fury for sure, though the fights in that one were still pretty good). All this said, I haven't really watched that many Chinese fighting movies to say for sure how they are like today.
