Eye for an Eye (2022) 8/10 I loved Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman back in the day and have watched it multiple times since. This is a recent Chinese made version which, shockingly, isn't terrible.
Well directed with some nice visuals, some terrific fight choreography as you might expect, with a story and characters who are plausible and decently written for a Chinese film.
It is missing the humour of Kitano's version, but it is a nice surprise nonetheless. I yarred it BTW, not available anywhere else.
Lead actor was in The Thousand Faces of Dunjia which was also great

Executive decision -8.5/10
The Steven segal movie that really isnt a segal movie. The first 40 mins are brilliant and the last 25 mins are brilliant, but it has a serious lack of action in the middle. Kurt Russell is great, Halle berry is okay. David suchet is a good villain.
Still a top tier 90s action movie

Xmen: days of future past
It still holds up as one of the best xmen films (funny how the first 2 of the films of the early 2000's one and the reboot are great then goes to shit on the 3rd)
In the newest xmen films, its amusing they need to keep making magneto and Raven the bad people in the film but they become "good" in the next one and then bad again by the end of the film and repeat. One thing in the film that is bit lazy writing how the sentinels are unguarded on the train and magneto can make the metal into thin wire from the train tracks and some how can control them I don't think its nitpick, just a bit of lazy writiing as they wanted the rest of the plot to happen but couldn't think of better way for it to happen.
9/10

The Commitments
Finally forced to watch this last night, after being in a succession of bands inspired by the concept for years and years. I always hated the production on the sound track - terrible faux-piano sounds, loads of distorted guitar and that awful late 80s-early 90s shotgun snare with ALL THE REVERBS drum treatment. I had no interest in the film due to that album.
The film was miles ahead musically and was a very entertaining kitchen sink comedy to boot. Actually really enjoyed this and will probably always remember it, so it gets a 9.something.

Wasn’t Jeff Buckley in the live session band version who played the press events in the States?
The X-Men films feel like they were (among other things) victims of their casting. Suddenly having to prioritise certain characters over other due to the status of the actor getting ahead of the status of the franchise.

For the recent ones I would say yes as JL was popular and then sophie turner because of GoT

Transformers Dark of the Moon 3/10 Better than 2 but it is an excuse for 2 1/2 hours of explosions, some of which makes sense, all of it looks technically impressive if not a bit messy and too much happening. The humans seem even less relevant this time than the last two. Might as well be a cgi film. I’d completely forgotten John Malkovich was in this one for completely unfashionable reasons (except lots of money, but still don’t know why). Oh God he’s actually doing it. Just watch Bumblebee and leave it at that. You don’t deserve the punishment you’ve given yourself.

Got to admit, 2 hrs 45 is going to be a challenge for one of these. They all made a fortune, I’m trying to work out why. So far, explosions, pervy shots and military stuff that would explain America loving them but they did better in the rest of the world.

Society of the Snow - 10/10 - spanish language film of the rugby team whose plane crashed in the Andes. Grim stuff indeed but absolutely gripping. Visuals are top notch too (watched it on Netflix UHD). Haven't seen the original adaption with Ethan Hawke but do remember this being referenced in a Simpsons episode at some point.
TMNT Mutant Mayhem - 8/10 - a fun watch. Much better than the animated 00s film which me and my 4yo also watched recently.
Reptile - 6/10 - murder mystery thriller starring Del Toro, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Silverstone. Started out decent but not that gripping by the end. Wifey liked it more than me.

Demolition Man 9/10
Prime Stallone and snipes go at in the now very near future. Just a great 90s action movie, snipes nails the villain role. Stallone is on form and Sandra bullock is really good too. Great action, brilliant effects for the time and it’s also quite funny. Jesse Ventura is in it with a blink and you’ll miss it role, which is odd…
Tango and cash next

Blade Runner Final Cut (4k Blu-ray) - 5/5
Nothing new to add except it's the best 4k disk by a long way, absolutely gorgeous and I noticed things on this watch that I'd not seen before.
Total Recall (Blu-ray) - 3.5/5
I don't think I've actually watched this all the way through in maybe 25 years! I was a little disappointed because obviously teenage me fucking loved it and it didn't live up to my memory. It's a blast, but not in the same league as Robocop or Starship Troopers.

I don’t think I’ve seen Tango & Cash since I was about 14 or 15 but I’d probably watched it 14 or 15 times by then. I assume its still brilliant.

If she was his daughter, she would be in her mid to late 30s in 2032 - and that's assuming she was conceived the night before he got frozen. She does not look like she's in her mid to late 30s.
Also Bullock kisses Stallone at the end, it'd be gross if she was his daughter.

Well we all know it'd be perfectly fine if she's his step daughter, so let's just go with that.

Fist of Legend
The Fist of Fury remake by Jet Li. It tones down the anti-Japanese sentiment, which is good because in the original movie the Japanese characters were all unbelievable cartoon villains, but the extra stuff here (Chen being ostracized for his Japanese girlfriend, the conflict between him and the new dojo master) sticks out as unnecessary. The dub is atrocious and actually changes most of the dialogue for whatever reason. The fights are pretty good at least, but they do draw out a little too long.

There was a mix of all the fight scenes set to Let the Bodies Hit the Floor on YouTube that I watched a lot. Dunno what that says about me..

I actually prefer Fist of Legend to the original. It's less boring in the middle, there's less racism.
And the fight scenes are better. Obviously Bruce Lee is very talented, but his fight scenes are rigid and completely one-sided. I don't know whether that's because it's what he wanted, or because fight choreography wasn't as developed a skill back then, or whatever.
But either way, Li's fights are imo much more dynamic and interesting to watch.

So far, explosions, pervy shots and military stuff that would explain America loving them but they did better in the rest of the world. I think that's the one with the Dinobots. My 9 year old is really into Transformers and Dinosaurs, and he thought Rise of the Beasts was the best thing ever when we watched it at the movie theatre, so we tried this last month. I think we made it about an hour and a half in before we had to stop for tea, and then after that neither of us could really be bothered continuing. We never even got to the dinobots! (it also has a really weird side plot about Marky Marks teen daughter getting nailed by a 22 year old and him finally learning to accept it... or at least I guess that's where that was headed?!) TMNT Mutant Mayhem - 8/10 - a fun watch. Much better than the animated 00s film which me and my 4yo also watched recently. Same kid is also really into TMNT at the moments (due to Mutant Mayhem and Fortnite). So we watched the old live action ones (TMNT1 and 2) recently and he really enjoyed them. They're probably a bit 90s-dark for a 4 year old, especially the first, but they're good fun. He wants to watch #3 next. Hadn't realized the creature effects were done by Henson. One of them has a dedication to him, so I think it might have been his last movie.

What frightens me most about Demolition Man is we might get to 2032 and people STILL listen to RHCP.

TMNT Mutant Mayhem 7/10
It’s good and I really like the art style, it manages a lot more depth than a lot of other recent action films. I just found the turtles a little more irritating than I’d have liked.
