I thought The Master was pretty memorable. The scene where they make him walk back and forth most of all. I’ve only seen it the once and could probably recall the entire film which is saying something with my lager addled brain. I’m with you on Inherent Vice though. Never managed to make it all the way through. Yeah. The Master is a superb film.

GoodFellas (SKY)
Despite it being one of my highest rated films I’ve not watched it in its entirety since the late 1990s. A did watch it quite a lot in the 90s though so I remembered almost all of it
A massive step up from the average movies I’ve been watching recently, just a massive step up in general against modern movies tbh
It would be a 10 if not for the fact that the final 3rd doesn’t quite match the high bar of the rest
A very strong 9 out of 10

The Beekeeper 6/10
Well that was completely and utterly daft. Still an entertaining enough romp mind you.

Does the F need to be capitalised in Goodfellas?

Does the F need to be capitalised in Goodfellas? If you want to write it correctly it does yes. If you can’t be bothered you can write Goodfellas though

Depends on if you're talking about the pizzas or the film.

How to have sex - 6/10
A coming of age film that explores consent with varying amounts of subtlety and nuance. I came very close to just turning this off, as the trio of teenagers on their first solo holiday are beyond annoying to begin with. The clip in Mayo and Kermode's review is from the first few minutes, which should give you an idea of their initial energy/irritation levels. Kind of glad I persevered with it, though. They all tone it down and start to show a bit more depth over the film (apart from one of them, who's just an annoying arsehole throughout)

Rye Lane 8/10 Well written and directed RomCom. The two leads are excellent but it is Vivian Oparah who steals the film A film I will watch again if I am feeling a bit low.
Equalizer 3 6/10 Gets a bit silly the further it goes on, but the action is decent in a turn your brain off kind of way.

Finally watched Maestro last night (after failing to set up a Plex server, I discovered an app called Infuse, which allows your Apple TV to view files on a NAS \o/). A series of vignettes from the life of Leonard Bernstein, as played by Bradley Cooper. After watching the latest season of For All Mankind, the old-person makeup was top-drawer, as were the rest of the production values. It seemed to get less flashy as it went on – there's one musical set-piece early on which is inspired by La La Land - but I suppose is likely a dramatic device.
8/10

Sisu
A Finnish man finds some gold, and then some Nazis, and then absolutely refuses to die at the hands of those Nazis. He is blown up, shot, drowned and hung, and just keeps on trucking.
Oh and he kills the fuck out of everyone too.
It's a fun movie! Very glad they're apparently making a sequel, though I don't know if they can resist the temptation to make it more ridiculous.

I remember reading a story in history of a Finnish sniper who killed something daft like 300 Nazis. That sounds like a fun film but probs just a Sniper Elite training level.

It might have been the same guy that killed a load of Russians after they invaded Finland in the early stages of the war. Amazing really that such a small country like Finland could repulse the Red Army. I guess Stalins purges was a big factor but there were many Finnish heroes.

I am always reminded of the garlic slicing scene when I'm prepping an Italian dish but I still have yet to get the Stanley knife out to give it a try.

I feel like a stint in prison would teach us the optimal thinness.

It’s not actually a thing. It’s the one part of the movie that bugs me as it feels weirdly thrown in without research. Garlic sliced thin and thrown into a pan will just crisp and burn and give next to no actual flavor. You’d use thinly sliced garlic to give some subtleness to some stir fry or other Asian dishes by adding it at the last minute, but this does dick all for Italian and isn’t a thing anyone in the real world does.
