Poor Things' locations felt like someone had let Midjourney have a go at making a movie.

Don’t let Kal know you compared Barbie to The Lego Movie. If you want to compare Barbie to anything it should be Poor Things, it's pretty much the same film but with furious jumping in the one with Emma Stone.

Yorgos Lanthimos should do a film based on Mighty Max.

Don’t let Kal know you compared Barbie to The Lego Movie. It’s so similar to the point that Will Ferrell played the same character in both

Yorgos Lanthimos should do a film based on Mighty Max. On board with this. Or Street Sharks. It's The Lobster sequel we need.

Bottoms - prime
WTF did I just watch. My wife was not super impressed, and thought it was weird. I didn't tell her middle age gamers on the internet said it was good.
It was maybe a 6/10.

The Zone of Interest - Curzon Bloomsbury, Plaza screen, 1530, seat B4 (approx 5m from screen), no popcorn - 9/10
Absolutely excruciating. Deeply unsettling. My only criticism is that it feels a bit one note. You get the message after about 30 mins. But, it's very effective for the duration. The most hostile 12A I've ever seen.

Man on Fire (1987 - Prime)
It's been a looong time since I watched the remake so thought I'd give the original a go to see how it compares. The action moves to Italy with Scott Glenn as our lead who looks and sounds the part so things are starting positive. Joe Pesci also appears so I'm thinking this is going to be fucking great but once the kidnapping happens it turns into the shittiest revenge film imaginable.
3/10

The remakes also pretty awful tbh. I’m not sure where all the loves comes from. Constantly headache inducing camerawork for 2.5 hours and a bunch of Tarantino wannabe dialogue and violence. Denzel does some serious heavy lifting but take him out and there’s nothing good left.

I still don't know how I feel about the film three weeks after seeing it. I guess a film about one of the most utterly insane things in human history should reflect that and it feels fairly unpleasant to watch. The score is incredibly oppressive too, especially the opening of the film. It's fantastically well shot directed and acted but I still never want to see it again.

Superman Returns 7/10
Is not bad and wouldn’t be out of place if it came out now. It’s a lot better than any of the recent DCEU, but still nowhere near as good as the original.

The Master
A PTA thing about Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a cult leader who really, really, really wants to bang Joaquin Phoenix. Multiple people want to bang Joaquin Phoenix, who in this is playing a walking, talking bottle of moonshine.
It's... strange. I'm not sure if I liked it or not, it's got this weird, dreamy energy to it. Great performances, though, from the two leads, Amy Adams as Hoffman's bossgirl wife, and a couple good scenes from Jesse "Meth Damon" Plemons.
7.5/10

The Karate Kid (the 1984 one with karate, not the newer one without karate) (all4)
This is actually a lot better than I expected. It's a lot less cheesy than I was expecting, Macchio and Morita both do good jobs giving their characters a bit of depth, and Elizabeth Shue's character is a lot less of a damsel in distress than I remembered.
Wasn't sure if it'd be too old for the kids, but they got pretty into it, hating on Kreese and rooting for the hero.
The ending is ridiculously sudden though. The tournament montage ("You're the best!") is great, and the final fight is pretty good. But then it's just 'one kick, over, finished movie'. I guess it was following the Rocky template, but it's kinda unsatisfying and the kids were all 'What?! That's it?!'
They really should have included that scene where Kreese gets his just deserts which they tacked on to the front of Karate Kids 2.
Other than that, good fun!
PS/ Was also a bit worried how they'd take (a) the spoken Japanese, and (b) the somewhat stereotypical Japanese character, but there didn't seem to be anything too awful.

The Master and Inherent Vice are his two that I most struggle to enjoy. They both have that dreamy quality and I find both difficult to follow and a bit boring. They also don’t have those really visceral memorable scenes that his best films do imo.

I dunno, I thought there were a few memorable scenes in it. The bits on the ship at the start, the various interrogation/indoctrination sessions, the angry handy in the bathroom, the piano party with the naked people.
I don't know where I'd put it in terms of PTA rankings, I'm not 100% sure what it was really trying to say. But I liked it more than I've liked most of his recent stuff.
Hoffman and Phoenix really do carry it, though.

I thought The Master was pretty memorable. The scene where they make him walk back and forth most of all. I’ve only seen it the once and could probably recall the entire film which is saying something with my lager addled brain.
I’m with you on Inherent Vice though. Never managed to make it all the way through.

What type of screening? 2D, 3D, 4DX, IMAX? Wait, what’s a ‘Plaza Screen’? Yep, fair, my post was deeply lacking in details, apologies. 2D, very clean high-def projection. Must've been a new DCP4K projector. Estimate 120" screen size. Excellent sound system, which really enhanced the viewing experience. Plaza screen is just the wanky name they give it, rather than Screen 1, 2, 3, etc. What else? Seats were 6/10. Bit pokey, but not surprising given it was a 28 seat auditorium. They slid back a small amount which was welcome. Weirdly square shape which meant your arms were raised about 2 inches too high to be fully comfortable. Audience 10/10 - no food, stfu throughout. Happy to answer any other questions.

What fabric on the seats? Dove grey, fairly thick pile. Unclear on exact material. 7/10

Admittedly, 120" was plucked out of my arse. I'll take my tape measure next time, sorry. Let's do math to better estimate. I can understand this is bothersome.
Each row is 6 seats. Let's say seats need to accommodate 46" waist fat arses, so half that and you're at 23". Plus 3" for each seat armrest. So that's (23"+3")*6. Now let's factor in the small aisle on one side. Let's go for 1 metre, so 39". That's 195" assuming screen is full width. I think screens are measured on the diagonal, so let's do some Pythagoras assuming 2.35:1 screen ratio, which means screen height = 83". Diagonal = sqrt(83*83 + 195*195) = 211".
211" screen. Suck it Derbs.
