I loved Dark City at the time but I feel like rewatching will only be a disappointment now.

Matrix reused the Dark City sets to save production money, been tempted to have a rerun of both and see what’s glaringly obvious Watched Gremlins and Back to the Future in short succession over Christmas and very much enjoyed the obvious set reuse.

If The Crystal Maze taught us anything it’s that people will watch and love anything with Richard O’Brian in it. No matter how infuriating.

Nyad 8.5/10 (Netflix)
A dramatisation mixed with real footage of endurance swimmer, Diana Nyad attempting to swim the 103+ miles from Havana to Key West in Florida. She has to contend with sharks, jellyfish and fickle strong ocean currents that can add miles to an impossible challenge. It stars an unrecognisable Annette Bening, with strong support from Jodie Foster and Rhys Ifans
Nyad isn’t a particularly sympathetic character, she’s incredibly driven and puts her companions’ backs up. As the story progresses, I warmed to her, especially after some story revelations.
A moving story, well told and beautifully acted. Highly recommended

Resident Evil Extinction
Its Mad Max meets Day of the Dead all of a sudden. Abandon any hope of stringing these films together coherently. The only things that really seem consistent are Milla Jovovich being fully naked in every film at some point and the budget seemingly still holding up.
Somehow there are still another three to go.

I loved Dark City at the time but I feel like rewatching will only be a disappointment now. I'm slightly biased (Dark City is basically my favourite movie), but you should rewatch it. It really holds up imo.

I haven’t watched Dark City or the Crow in ages, but loved them both. I have the director cut of the former on DVD somewhere. Might be time for an outing this weekend.

I loved them both at the time.
I have noticed that a bunch of movies I loved at the time seem a lot more choppy in the editing these days, which I guess is just due to how the artform has evolved in the meantime. But it can be weird when a movie that I remember being deep and complex is actually just something that jumps around from basic to basic scene.
The Craft is good too though.

It really holds up imo. I watched it for the first time just a couple of years ago, and while it's certainly of it's time it holds up as a good movie.

Some of the special effects with the aliens look a bit dated, but it still mostly looks great. And even some of the weirder acting choices are kind of justified by the plot.

Spooder-mun: cross the spooder-vurs
Honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a more visually arresting film. If anything, and this is a critique I could throw at the Lego films, it’s a bit busy. Too many jokes, not enough time. Do I care, not one bit.
9/10
Counter opinion from Mrs Shark :” it’s a FUCKING HEADACHE.”
So… 6/10?

Caught Into The Spiderverse on Netflix and halfway through the film was wondering why all the text boxes kept being in German... at first I thought it was a joke that I didn't quite get but it turns out the version Netflix has is the German version. No idea why, and it seems like Netflix have no intention of changing it to an English version.

Resident Evil Afterlife
Paul WS Anderson is back directing and he’s made a 3D Imax film. He’s also made a Zack Snyder film.
Washed out colour palette, shonky green screen and cgi, slo-mo in literally every action sequence, all the characters having low level generic super powers, a plot that is simultaneously paper thin, really dumb and weirdly convoluted. Every move is straight out of the Snyder playbook.
The addition of some RE5 content, having used 1-3 in the first two movies, means the film doesn’t make a whole lot of sense even in the moron logic of the franchise’s own internal universe.
Its almost remarkable that these keep getting so successively and noticeably worse.

I kept fiddling with the remote trying to work out what my son had done to it when we watched at Christmas.

I also thought it was great, though I can also understand the heaache complaint, which is a similar issue to the Lego movies, and also the recent Turtles movie. (which is good, if not as good as spiderverse).

I've just treated myself to odeon limitless+ and have already booked to see poor things & mean girls today. The holdovers in the week and Texas chainsaw massacre 50th anniversary next Saturday. probably fit wonka in at some point as well.

Warcraft 3/10
It’s just so boring. There’s obviously potential for some sort of epic story (even one that isn’t necessarily very original) using the fantasy world but this isn’t it.

No Hard Feelings
Jenifer Lawrence is hired to pretend to be a shy lads girlfriend and somehow fuck him into coming out of his shell. Totally predictable plot and a virtually humourless comedy. Plus a bizarre scene where a fully naked Lawrence fights 3 people on a beach - and they show everything. The entire film is unnecessary.
2/10
