Napoleon Dynamite in his only other film, as well. Might give that a rewatch. He's probably minted from that, alone. Wut? Why would he be solely minted from a film that cost under half a million to make that he starred in, didn't write, produce or direct? Minted in the normal people sense. Dude just needs to do a few £10k appearances and he's sorted

I watched Notting Hill (SKY) yesterday, never seen it before but seen a million clips of the main scenes. It was good, Julia Roberts is a bit of a cow in it though, the Hugh Grant character was a bit of a mug but I suppose you would be in that situation. 7 out of 10
This morning I watched Queenpins (Netflix) which was also quite good. About two ladies who LOVE coupons. I realise that sounds quite dull but it’s a decent yarn, loosely based on true events. Includes everyone’s favourite nerd crush Kristen Bell. 6.5 out of 10

Resident Evil Apocalypse
This is an extraordinarily stupid film. The first was an action movie take on the RE premise, this one feels like every scene was conceived by a child throwing their action figures at the wall. Or possibly someone who had never seen or played any video game and was just guessing what they must be like.
Its probably fairly telling that this was the director’s first time heading up a film and he didn’t do another for over 15 years afterwards.
On the plus side its very short and, apart from Jill’s cosplay costume and dodgy dye job, looks like decent money was spent on it so its not another Mortal Kombat Annihilation at least.

As we all know, Napoleon Dynamite is firmly cemented in pop culture and has clearly raked in millions since it was unleashed into the universe, Heder was able to renegotiate his deal and got a cut of the profits [of $46m].

Jon Heder was so well off after starring in international blockbuster Napoleaon Dynamite he could afford to live the Hollywood Dream, of putting a 10% deposit on a 2 bed flat in Milton Keynes

Rush (Netflix) - 3.5/5I thought this looked rubbish and was very reluctant to watch it as I'm not a fan of cars let alone racing, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. It's cheesy, looks like a soap opera and is honestly just quite vapid and ridiculous, but that all feels intentional. The two leads are perfect and the story is very efficiently told, it's great fun. Team Lauda all the way. Agreed, its a rollicking tale, Lauda was a different animal.

On the subject of Napoleon Dynamite, anyone else think it was absolute shite? Maybe I was a victim of the hype, I didn't see it at the cinema and saw it was £6.99 on Play.com (those were the days, the receipt is still in my Gmail inbox from 2005) and went ahead and bought it.
I'm just glad it was only 7 quid.

I never really got the hype either. Only seen it once though, may improve with a few viewings, as these sorts of films sometimes do.

Shutter Island 9/10 I've put off watching this for 13 years for no reason. Maybe just didn't like the poster. Decided to watch it on a whim and loved it. Great soundtrack and it was real wacky. Edit* Oh wait, I got to the bit where that lady does a big exposition dump and my interest fell off a cliff. 3/10 Did you get to Ben Kingsley explaining the plot to the dummies in the audience by literally writing the twist on a blackboard? Nope! The initial exposition dump was so jarring and I was so disappointed that I immediately switched it off and watched Training Day instead. I made the right choice. Oh and Napoleon Dynamite rules.

For some reason I keep thinking Napoleon Dynamite and Scott Pilgrim are the same movie.

Napoleon Dynamite seems like exactly the sort of thing that’s due a hyped then poorly received and quickly forgotten streaming series revival Edit nevermind Fox already did it: youtu.be/dQ0uUdbsIxY

One is a weird indie comedy about a dorky looking guy trying to get a girl while dealing with weirdo characters standing in his way. It's kinda funny.
The other is Scott Pilgrim.

Why are you doing it to yourself, simple Playing RE4 and realising after first film I couldn’t remember which was which. Or that PWSA put his second unit directors in charge of entire films, apparently.

The Crow 5/10
Never seen before but felt like I should. The ideas are ok but it’s very bad and feels like an angst ridden teen wrote it, then got their angst ridden mates to act in it.

I remember enjoying Napoleon Dynamite, but not understanding why so may were raving about it. Not seen it since it came out (on home release) though so maybe worth a rewatch

I watched Dark City last week, funnily enough. It feels quite choppy now, almost student film like. It lurches about all over the place.
It was the theatrical version, though, so it might be why it feels like it was edited with a knife and fork.

Director's cut adds more. Not loads but enough to go "ok yes there was a better film in there".
Crow and Dark City are 90s goth bangers. Bollocks your Crafts and Sleepy Hollows.

Directors Cut isn’t hugely better to be honest, but at least it does away with the painful “explain the entire film at the beginning for all the stupids” And then The Matrix came along like a week later.

The difference in..... I suppose skill between the two movies is quite remarkable. The flow, quality and structure of The Matrix is just miles ahead. You would never think they are such close contemporaries.

Matrix reused the Dark City sets to save production money, been tempted to have a rerun of both and see what’s glaringly obvious

Rewatched Dark City last week. It's quite odd
If I'm being charitable I could try and argue the weird editing is a purposeful choice meant to disorientate the viewer, as the whole thing does feel like a surreal dream, but I actually think it's just weird editing, and it's just a happy accident that it works for the films vibe.
