I remember going to the cinema to watch MK:A and being rather disappointed. Not Ghostbusters 2 level disappointed, but maybe Underworld 2 level disappointed.
Triangle the one with Melissa George?

The best film in the sort of genre is hands down Triangle. A must see if you have not. The famous rom-com, Triangle. I was going more time-bendy head fuck tbh.

Poor Things - 9/10 Spectacularly weird coming of age fable. Didn't realise it had steampunk vibes prior to going in! The world is wonderful. Loved it, Willem Defoe's ropey Scottish (?) accent aside. Ropey? I thought it was better than his American accent in Spiderman.

I rewatched the Underworld movies when they dropped onto prime last(ish) year and my advice would be; if you love them and haven’t seen them in a while, keep it that way.

The one with Rhona Mitra and Micheal Sheen stands out as being as the most "well this is a thing that exists".

I've never seen them. They never seemed to review well and even Kate Beckinsale never seemed a good enough reason.

I remember seeing the first one at university with a girl I had a massive crush on and a male friend of hers who existed only to cock block me. Apart from the company I was in I remember very little about the film.
Kate Beckinsale shooting through the floor, Bill Nighy something something and that’s it.

They're okay films but if they didn't feature Kate Beckinsale in really tight clothes no one would probably give a shit, they're maybe a smidge better than Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evils but only a smidge.

Nowhere near as good as Nightbreed Agreed, Craig Sheffer was pretty good in that.

Reality: 7/10
Nice little stage adaptation. Sydney Sweeney plays it just right - both as a naïf when the FBI first come calling, and then with more of an edge when put under pressure. Photography and score good at increasing the tension in a simple three-hander.

Shutter Island 9/10
I've put off watching this for 13 years for no reason. Maybe just didn't like the poster.
Decided to watch it on a whim and loved it. Great soundtrack and it was real wacky.
Edit* Oh wait, I got to the bit where that lady does a big exposition dump and my interest fell off a cliff. 3/10

Nowhere near as good as Night Watch Was Day Watch any good? I remember really enjoying Night when it came out but there didn’t seem to be much excitement about the sequel

Resident Evil
The Paul WS Anderson one. Where Welcome To Racoon City is a deeply flawed attempt to transliterate the games directly into a film this one barely bothers at all. Its incredibly glossy and almost every scene looks like it belongs in a nu-metal video so there’s no really any horror in it. Its more a horror themed post-Matrix action movie with only really zombies and lab retained from the games’ lore.
I suppose in many ways its a much more competently made film than WTRC but its also total trash. Luckily its under 100 minutes so it zips along pretty briskly.

The Creator - Disney + - Sci Fi story about a war between humans and AI. At times it reminded me of District 9 visually. It is really good. There are some lovely scenic views, that marry the real world with futuristic architecture really well.
But, there are times when I wasn’t entirely sure why different people were doing what they were doing. It might be my lack of attention, a twelve hour night shift followed by an eight kilometre walk home. But I think that it was purposefully ambiguous. There is a reveal, that makes me think it was intentional.
8/10.

Blades of Glory - 8/10
Watched this with my eldest as she is starting to like the comedies I used to love with Ferrell, stiller, Wilson, Rudd etc. Not seen it for years and it’s very funny (if you like Ferrell). I forgot how good Arnett and poehler were too as the brother and sister team. Not quite top tier but still a great watch.

Anchorman/Ricky Bobby/Blades of Glory are a decent trilogy. I do think Blades of Glory gets overlooked, though. Its still really funny, if you like jokes about two straight men touching each others junk.

My daughter loved it and she is as woke as they come so I think it’s harmless fun.

Napoleon Dynamite in his only other film, as well.
Might give that a rewatch. He's probably minted from that, alone.

Rush (Netflix) - 3.5/5
I thought this looked rubbish and was very reluctant to watch it as I'm not a fan of cars let alone racing, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.
It's cheesy, looks like a soap opera and is honestly just quite vapid and ridiculous, but that all feels intentional. The two leads are perfect and the story is very efficiently told, it's great fun.
Team Lauda all the way.
