Barry Keoghan has a real weird-looking face. He reminds me of the kid playing the banjo in Deliverance.

Yep, I think that's a pretty good start to a new page.

FWIW I think he’s great and I’ve really enjoyed his performances in everything I’ve seen him in apart from The Eternals which was offensively awful in every way.
Looking forward to his turn as the Joker in the next Batman.

Bones and All
2 young misfits go on a road trip across America. Well shot, great acting from all the cast and really different. Less you know about it the better.
8/10

Shaolin Soccer (Netflix) - 8/10
It's strange and weird but it is a great film. Kung Fu Hustle is a masterpiece and this falls short of that. The plot is a man assembles his brothers to play football using martial arts and to try and defeat the evil team.

Anatomy of a Fall. Stressful French courtroom drama. Neither bland or cheesey.

Cliffhanger - 9/10
Continuing with my rerun of 80s/90s action movies. I’ve not seen this for years and it’s brilliant. Renny harlin, Prime Stallone and Lithgows one liners combined with amazing action and stunts. It seems to be a bit of forgotten film, it deserves to be remembered as a 90s action classic.
Also the first scene is still incredible…

Force Majeure
I didn’t know much about this but it was quite the amateur, ham fisted low quality effort. Almost like they took a group of actors up a mountain and made it up as they went along enjoying the hospitality
I expect that the crits loved it for its nuance and commentary on the fragility of marriage etc, however if it wasn’t a foreign movie they’d have hated it. The couple in it are Swedish and strangely enough I’ve read some reviews by Swedes after I watched it and they thought it was complete garbage. The end is particularly dreadful
Not recommended

Continuing with my rerun of 80s/90s action movies. I do wonder how Terminal Velocity has held up after all this time. I always thought cliffhanger deserved more recognition, so I was wondering if I'd remembered it badly. I always really liked Terminal Velocity too, some great stunts, but I don't think I've ever met another person who's seen it.

I think the criticism of it was that it was largely pointless given that it changes little from the original. The conceit of the drama itself was pretty sound.

I really like Force Majeure. Made me laugh several times, all I want from a comedy. It was a bit long perhaps.

Downhill (the remake of Force Majeure) was rather meh, so meh I can't exactly remember how I felt about it even though I saw it at the cinema, fortunately my Twitter account to the rescue to remind me of it.
"Can't blame the cast for how poor #Downhill is, it doesn't seem to know if it's a comedy with few laughs or a drama with little drama. I've not seen Force Majeure, the film it's based on, but I would imagine it's far better than this."
One thing that I do remember is Will Ferrell was almost certainly the wrong person to play the father character.

Cliffhanger is a decent action film, but it blows its load in the first sequence and never does anything anywhere near as exciting for the remainder of the film.

Nah, the next scene with the Plane heist and crash is just as good and the final helicopter scene is great too. Then you have loads of great climbing action set pieces too. It’s criminally underrated really.

Thought Force Majeure was excellent. Was surprised how funny it was. I would agree the ending lets it down a bit, but on the whole I liked it a lot.
Not surprised the remake was terrible. There was no chance an Americanised version starring Will Ferrell would work.

I liked Force Majeure.
Days of the Bagnold Summer - 3.5/5
Downbeat British comedy about a single mum and her metal-head teenage son. Directed by Simon Bird from the Inbetweeners, starring Nick Cave's son, Earl, Monica Dolan as the mum and includes Tamsin Greig, Rob Brydon, Alice Lowe and Tim Key. Soundtrack by Belle & Sebastian. It's very well directed and the central relationship is really sweet. It feels weirdly out-of-time as the mother is probably 50ish but dresses and behaves like an old woman from the 60s, but I think that's on purpose. It's about as quintessentially a British/Film Four production as you could get, and feels very safe and by the numbers, but it's lovely.
NYAD (Netflix) - 3/5
Annette Bening tries to swim from Cuba to Florida, reluctantly coached by Jodie Foster, and navigated by grizzly Rhys Ifans in cuddly Captain Quint mode. It's a pretty routine but interesting (BOX JELLYFISH!!) and uplifting true story/sports movie, but the cast really do the heavy lifting, and it's great to see Foster and Bening together.
