It was shown in 4:3 wasn't it? Unless I'm going mad. Yeah it was.

Was one of the best things about it. Some of the framing was incredible. The grave scene in particular.

Agreed. It looked fantastic and the aspect was a big part of that (although, I wonder how well that would work on TV screen vs the cinema screen).
Weird Emerald Fennel takes here, albeit ones I expect are shared by quite a lot of people. Both her films have been great.

SB I thought was great for the first half. Once the big plot twisty thing occurs, it completely falls apart. Final third is total shite.

SB is solid and really well shot but I don't think I'll ever need to watch it again. PYW fell really flat for me. Both films are definitely "seen it before" but at least SB was elevated with great cinematography and really fun turns from Richard E Grant and Rosamund Pike.

The Drifter chocolate bar was also highly underrated.

It may not have as many notable soundbites or specific standout/quotable scenes as Goodfellas, but to call it bland is more telling of the reviewer than the film. I vaguely remember this pretty much being its problem at the time and why some reviewers were more lukewarm in it. Imagine trying to top Goodfellas, so it’s more of a historical document. And I also gave up on Saltburn. I feel like Barry Keoghan is a psyop. I think I’m the only person in the world who thinks he can’t act and it’s driving me insane to the point I can’t actually tolerate his presence on screen anymore. When I first saw him I believe it was in Killing Of A Sacred Deer I thought he looked like a special talent. However he has played that same part in everyhing he has ever done since. This lead role was quite a big test for him and I think he showed he cannot lead a film.

I've seen him in American Animals, Sacred Deer, Banshees, that deleted scene from T'Batman and now Saltburn.
Dude's got the range of a fucking paper plane.

I first saw him in The Green Knight and genuinely thought they had got a chicken shed type actor in to play the annoying little twat Gawain runs into

I think she's very talented and I'm glad she's making interesting films that appear to be successful and well received, I just don't think they've been very good. I found PYW and Saltburn to have brilliant bits, but that something was off with the actual plot and pacing. I didn't really understand the central character in either film because they seemed to by cypher's for something I also didn't understand.

His acting was mainly staring at people. He is still doing the same thing now...

Don't forget Dunkirk. After we saw it my girlfriend at the time absolutely cracked me up with a spot-on impression of him.

Oh fuck me he is. I think he's the kid on the boat.
I say "kid", he must have been late 20s. It's also another reason I turned of Saltburn. That they had the audacity to show clips from Superbad just served as a reminder of what actual teenagers look and sound like.

30 is a bit of stretch when he's supposed to be 18-21, and I agree he doesnt pull it off. I did enjoy those bits of them sitting around watching Superbad and Ringu though, thought it was funny, I think she writes great dialogue.

Yep - George, the young fella who gets knocked down the stairs.
If I got wound up about films not using real teenagers or accurately portraying them I don't think I'd watch anything. Although you've reminded me of how much I did enjoy Eighth Grade.

If it's done well it's fine, obviously. Didnt help that he's built like a brick-shithouse in it.

That lad is a freak of nature. My group of 17 year olds this morning were VASTLY different.

Bottoms
This was bloody hilarious and clever in equal measures. Marshawn Lynch had me in tears a few times.
Went to see it on a whim with the other half over the Christmas break and really glad I did. Feels like a proper modern teen comedy in all the best ways.
9/10

That film had some bizarre bits of casting/acting for some of the smaller parts. "I want to be your layyydeee"

Leave the World Behind - 9.5/10
Absolutely loved it and I can't believe it got mixed reviews. Builds tension brilliantly, acting is amazing and the ending was perfect.

Superbad, 2007 (after celebrating "Class of 2006") I picked up on that, at first, however they would have been in summer 2007 at that point. Even so, doubt it would have been out on DVD. But all that did was go "hey, watch this vastly superior film instead"

The funny thing about the Summer of 2007 is that it's one of the wettest on record so it being "hotter than Barbados" was not exactly accurate.
I thought Saltburn was very good, now regretting not seeing the Cineworld early screening rather than watching on TV, the reaction to the bath scene would surely have been audible.

Rebel Moon - 6/10
I went in with very very low expectations and yes it is by most accounts terrible, but I really enjoyed it. Turn your brain off, appreciate the constant homages and have a shot every time there is a slow mo scene and you'll have a good time. It reminded me of those shitty low budget 1980's Fantasy and Sci fi movies we all loved when we were young.
Add or deduct a point dependent on your capacity to tolerate Hunnams latest accent...
