Thanks for taking the hit Reviewer. I will avoid it (Rebel Moon).
Shame, I was a little hopeful against my better judgement!
edits: due to new page tripping me up again.
/note to self: always quote in case of this.

Netflix have got form for taking someone who peaked about 20 years ago and offering them shitloads to produce shite.
See also - Adam Sandler.

At least the Sandler films are fairly cheap to make. This cost a fortune and looks like they used that thing they use on the Mandalorian but far worse at times.

Leave the World Behind 4/10, poor acting, cliches all the way, awful characters. Took me three goes to get through it just to see what the fuss was about, wish I hadn't bothered.

I can see how the movie might be divisive but I'm surprised to hear you thought the acting was poor. I though the leads were great.

Absolutely can’t get my head around how you think this film was cliched. The whole film plays on setting up what seems like cliches then not delivering them.

Saltburn (on Prime)
This feels similar territory to a Yorgos Lanthimos film and indeed has a lot in common with The Killing of a Sacred Deer, not least Barry Keoghan’s character and performance. Also reminded me of Parasite a bit. If you enjoy those kind of things you’ll like this. It has some really good characters and performances and while imo it didn’t quite stick the landing, I enjoyed the ride.
8/10

Finding out that film was "retro" and set during my uni years instantly turned me off.

Rebel moon
Pretty painful as the reviews suggest. It's a 15 but it feels like a cheesy kids film and there's nothing original to anything it does.
Generous 4/10.

The Empire review was pretty damning so I’d not bothered with it yet. Hearing that it’s split opinion makes me more interested in checking it out.

Really looking forward getting a chance to watch this soon.

Riders of Justice 8/10
Not sure why I was expecting a straight revenge film but I think it’s an extremely dark comedy. Mads is great as the grieving military man that only knows one way of dealing with things, the rest of the cast are an amusing mix of oddballs.

Click and Collect 8/10
Someone recommended this a while back as a superior Jingle All The Way, and I have to agree. You have to be in the mood for Merchant's usual shtick, but it's laugh out loud funny in places and rattles through in less than an hour - could maybe have done with a little bit longer if anything to draw out the Planes Trains side of things. And Sophia Di Martino is completely wasted. Will definitely watch again for future Christmases.

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. A coming of age story about a young vampire whose family is deeply disturbed by her empathy and can't accept that she doesn't want to kill people. I don't think anyone is going to be blown away by the story, but I relly liked all the characters and it managed to balance between being entertainingly weird, sweet and funny at the same time.
I liked it /10.

It's A Wonderful Life. 9/10. One of those films that I'd seen a lot of in clips etc and knew what happened, but had never sat down to watch. Quality from start to finish, Stewart is of course excellent, as is Donna Reed. It's not even that schmaltzy really. Loads of cinematic techniques that must have been groundbreaking at the time. Marvellous stuff. (Fashionably late etc)

You'd really never seen it before?
I watch it every few years when it's on i guess. If it didn't get dusty at the end, or when no one remembers him...
It's such a great, if rather dated, film yet the central message still hits home.

I wouldn’t say it’s particularly dated.
Sometimes I feel like people use that word when they just mean “old”.

The first 2/3 are brilliant, and you don't see those clips doing the rounds. Will definitely be an annual watch I think. We're now onto Elf. Complete with wearing my new (courtesy of the elves) Elf "Santa, I know him" t-shirt!

Lethal weapon 4 - 8/10
I was pretty sure I’d never seen this before, but I remember the opening scene with guy in the armour and flame thrower and the shark on the boat. The rest of it was new to me. It Goes heavy on the illegal immigrant angle without actually saying anything, but the rest is really good, it’s better than 3 and really entertains. Jet li is a great villain too. It also ends the franchise perfectly.
It was a pleasure to watch all 4 again and I’d say it’s a stronger group of films than die hard 1 - 4 (5 doesn’t count)
