A Haunting in Venice 4/10 (Disney+) - clunky, dark, jumpy and just shit The Killer 9/10 (Netflix) - I thought this was excellent. Loved the pacing, methodology and acting. He shouldn’t have missed his shot though. Missing the shot is (in my mind) the whole point. He consistently fucks up in every one of his hits, making a poor decision or just flat out fucking up. My take is that's just part of being good at something. I need to see it again, cos lots of people I speak to about say it's ok but very surfacy, and I just keep seeing all this subtext and I'm not sure it's there! Really enjoyed it regardless.

Yeah, that was my main gripe with the film. It was an absolutely goofy shot to attempt and just didn't sit right with him waffling on about waiting for the perfect moment (and his 1000 kill streak being broken by someone having a heart attack) Still a cracking film despite that.

But Barbie was awesome?! 'Slapstick god scene' means the bit where thor does the splits? That was the most annoying bit as it basically set the whole movie up as something not to be taken seriously and where there was very little threat. Despite Bale being a scary bad guy. I can't quite remember in detail but I meant where Bales child dies after days of starvation at the beginning, then in the next scene he's confronted by some fat jovial cartoony sun god in a cartoon oasis and Bale kills him and becomes 'evil'. Its just a terrible idea and sets off the uneven tone throughout. I'm not sure what Waititi was going for but it didn't work... To be fair I didn't like JoJo Rabbit either for similar reasons but it was certainly better than Love and Thunder. I love Waititi's other films though, HFTWP, Boy, WWDITS etc. are all great. What about USA Inbetweeners. Unbelievably he directed that...

But then I thought Ragnarok was pretty class, so something just went very wrong the second time round.
I think that's a big reason behind my venomous reaction to it - I was genuinely looking forward to it and it was a massive disappointment.

Did any of the people that made Marvel movies not slightly fuck up their second attempt? Same for DC as well tbh.

I prefer GOTG2 to one, and probably 3 to 2. But I think I’m in the minority there.
To be fair to him saying he didn’t read Thor as a comic, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone in real life or online who has admitted that they did either.

I liked Love and Thunder, more than some other MCU films, less than others. I'd watch it again happily enough.
I preferred GotG 1 to GotG 2, but GotG 3 to 2.

Are we specifically sticking to MCU or does any Marvel property count like the OG Spider-Man 2? I'm still gutted about what could have been with Black Panther 2 were it not for obvious reasons.

Jon Watts directed all the Tom Holland Spidey films and will be back for the next one too, so he's doing okay at it.

The one with Mysterio was shit and very similar to Iron Man 3. Wasted Jake Gyllenhall too.

I feel like all the Iron Man films got progressively worse.

The one with Mysterio was shit and very similar to Iron Man 3. Wasted Jake Gyllenhall too. Shit is a tad hyperbolic. Eternals was genuinely shit, Far From Home was not as good as Homecoming but still a solid movie and inhad fun with it and I really like that in interpretation of Mysterio. I don't see where Far From Home was similar to Iron Man 3 though? Sure they both had a villain misdirect but I don't think that's a rare occurrence in these kind of movies.

Well I'll completely disagree with that assessment of Far From Home, taking Peter out of New York lead to some quite fun stuff. Hopefully at some point the Night Monkey film will finally be released, the trailer came out ages ago.

Only film I've watched in the MCU after Endgame so might be Marvel fatigue. But I remember being really disappointed and it having terrible CGI.

Terrible CGI?! That's the one film where the CGI was actually pretty good. If you said something like Black Panther or Ant Man 3 I'd be fully with you.

I don’t really get what the joke is here assuming it is a joke.

Fargo
I think I want to live in the world where William H Macy played Frank Grimes.
Pacing of this is great. Take off the credits and it's about 93 mins. Nothing wasted. Fucking great.
9/10

I didn’t really dig European Vacation either. It’s kinda boring and Peter just comes off as annoying. I think the first one is the best of the three.

Eurotrip is rubbish. Gyllenhaal is kinda interesting but the rest is bafflingly dull.

Yep. Sony made a trailer based on a crap line from the film.

Generally I like the mCU spideys when he’s actually spider-manning. The high school stuff is a bit tiresome.

Spider-Verse is much better IMO. Always feels like Peter/Spider-Man is playing 2nd fiddle in the live action films.

Spider-Verse is much better IMO. Always feels like Peter/Spider-Man is playing 2nd fiddle in the live action films. I feel like he kinda works better that way. Too much spiderman is kinda annoying. Agree on spiderverse being great though. When I was thinking what they should do with Fantastic 4, the first thing that popped into my head was teaming them up with spiderman.
