I thought it might have been Happy Death Day. That was the other one.

My post was clearly much more cryptic than I intended.

It wasn't, and I haven't seen either of those.

I knew one of them but not the other one, probably could have worked it out though

Just while we're here, what other comedy/romantic comedy premise would work with a slasher movie.
You've Got Mail, for sure.

I feel like I’ve gone thick Clem meant the Vince Vaughn film not the Lindsey Lohan/Jodie Foster one, right?
Edit … nevermind, I get it now

Freaky was ok. Vince Vaughn wasn't great, but the girl was excellent.

I really like play-like films that are set in one very limited location. Speaking of: Rear WindowStarts slow but builds up the vignette of different characters whose lives we literally peer into. Then ramps the tension up masterfully. The set is so well constructed and shot. Jimmy Stewart is the ultimate Chad for turning down Grace Kelly's advances through most of the film. Strangers on a TrainA brilliant concept and gripping from the very start, but for me it floundered a little towards the end. I thought the tennis match could have been cut, although it did allow for that amazing shot of Bruno watching Guy in the audience. Then the finale with the carousel was tonally all over the place. I hesitate to say it but this one feels ripe for a modern remake.

It's been done but Mrs Doubtfire as a slasher. Or any Adam Sandler film. Maybe that one where he fucks with amnesiac woman.

NanocrystalDavid Fincher and Ben Affleck are supposed to be doing a Strangers on a Train remake. Rope is the other great Hitchcock play-like film.

I love Strangers on a Train so much, it's one of those great premises that could fit in one sentence written on the back of a napkin.

That looks interesting, especially given the era it was written.
Edit: there's a Friedkin directed 1970 version which looks to be the better version.

Didn’t handle homosexuality amazingly artfully in Cruising, but always up for some Friedkin.

Yeah it’s fantastic. It got a digital release last year so is on Apple TV and such.
The set up is a little slow but once you’re in the truck it’s absolutely nail biting stuff.
I haven’t seen Friedkin’s final film The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial yet but it’s supposed to be good, and I do love a good courtroom drama.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2023) - 85 - The animation is delightful, the characters are great, the soundtrack fits well, the story zips along nicely. The cast are excellent, it's funny, and it's got a heart.
(edit, was obvs 23 not 03)

Unpopular opinion but Dial M for Murder with Ray Milland and John Williams is the top of the list for play-like Hitchcock films for me, mostly down to the performances of the two actors mentioned. Grace Kelly puts in a decent shift too.

As part of my movie mission I’m on I looked back at Hitchcock to see what I was missing, and the guy directed almost a hundred movies. Absolutely ridiculous.
I want to go back and watch more of his early British stuff.
