I watched Pulp Fiction in the cinema when it came out and sparked up a joint about half way through, you could actually smoke in cinemas back then, not weed though
Then when SPOILERS!!! Butch shoots Vincent an alarm went off in the movie and I was proper shitting myself as I thought it was actually going off in the cinema and I was about to get chucked out and/or arrested
Thankfully it was just in the movie and I made it to the end of both the film and the joint

AVP Requiem (disney+)
Absolutely fucking shit.
No part of this film is good. The story makes no sense, no one can act, its directed horribly, it looks terrible (special effects) and looks terrible (its too dark to see anything for 80% of the movie).
The first AVP was a cartoonish action film but it was entertaining and made money, its baffling that they chose to follow it up with something this cheap and poorly conceived.

Well done for completing the series but I fear it’s a Phyrric victory. If you really want to go down the route of masochism, try Shane Black’s The Predator next. Prometheus will be an overly elaborate pudding compared to that pile of offal and poo juice.

The only bits I skip in movies are the bits where they talk about xmas not being real, or dad/santa getting stuck in a chimney and dying on xmas day.

At least in a Predator binge you get to follow the awfulness of The Predator with the excellence of Prey I suppose.
Y’know in films like Miracle on 34th Street or The Santa Clause where it turns out that Santa is real? Where do the unbelievers think their presents have been coming from on all their previous Christmases?

Borderlands 3/10 Took one for the team. Blanchett is amazing in most things but is miscast in this, hate to say it, just seems a couple of decades too old for the part, she gives it her best shot though TBF. Jamie Lee Curtis's performance is just plain weird, and Kevin Hart is an automatic -5 points on any review for me. Claptrap voiced by Jack Black is good, but considering that character was mega annoying in the game that is not gonna redeem the project.
Clunky uninspiring dialogue and subpar CGI only adds to the "fun"
It is set up for a sequel...

I debated starting that last night, but life is just too short. Although I suppose I did watch Trap instead, so can't really talk...
Trap - 5/10 Hartnett just about makes this watchable. It's an utterly fucking absurd premise to begin with, so you really need to just check your brain out and go along for the ride. It's better than Old, but just barely.

Scream 4 - 9.5/10
Never seen this one before and it’s absolutely brilliant. Both me and my eldest had no idea who the killer was and the final act is a scathing premonition for the current social media fucked up world we live in. Even my daughter caught on to the social commentary.
Not sure why this is the least thought of movie as it’s easily the 2nd best movie after the first one. Scream V next 😊

Abigail
Its a shame the trailer gives away "the twist" but its entertaining and gory film (rare to see a mainstream 18 rated horror film) Its not going to be well remembered classic film but its good saturday night film with drinks. Most of the cast are good (the crap actors are quickly killed off thankfully) Dan Stevens chews the scenery and having fun, Mellisa and Kathryn are great but Matthew Goode is fucking awful right at the end
8/10

I never saw it back in the day and only watched it couple of years ago for the first time. And yeah, it's pretty great innit? It's what Scream 2 should have been: a proper sequel with some ideas of its own. Everybody does look a lot older in it, and that's really jarring when you watch them all back to back like I did one weekend

Knock at the Door
Filling in gaps in my M. Knight Shyamalan back catalogue.
Didn’t hate this. After watching Trap it was funny to see something with some actual tension in it. If there’s one thing I can gift MKS with it’s that he will usually get the most out of his main cast members (so long as they’re not blood related) and this film really showcases Dave Bautista.
It’s brief, there aren’t many surprises, but it’s still one of his better ones.
7/10

Kinds of Kindness
Really didn't like this, having really looked forward to it after Poor Things and The Favourite. Dull b-tier Twilight Zone stories. Annoying music. Average performances. Long, drawn out and just so average. Big let down.
3/10
Beau is Afraid
Interesting, funny, vivid first half followed by a second half that found its way up itself. My brother in law said "Phoenix carried it" and, yeah he does but he doesn't have much choice.
6/10 for the first half 1 giant penis for the second half.
Not a great weekend for movies here.

I never quite managed to steel myself up for Beau is Afraid enough. I think with some films you need an exit strategy.

Prometheus (disney+)
An enormous upgrade on Requiem in every way.
I used to really dislike this film but approaching it this time I tried thinking of it more as a Chariot of the Gods/Ancient Aliens movie than an Alien one. In those terms it mostly works. As a prequel to Alien it still doesn’t for me.
Positives are all on the production side. It looks great, the cast is really good, the directing is all well done.
Negatives almost all on the writing side. The David character makes no sense. The Black Goo just does whatever random stuff they wanted for the plot. The xenomorph origin is unsatisfying and unnecessary.
I reckon this film could have been almost identical just with the explicit references to Alien removed and you could add a point or two to its rating immediately.

That’s the issue for me, it doesn’t really feel like an Alien film enough. Honestly comparing no anything to Requiem is a low bar to clear.

I'm convinced that Prometheus changed between "being an Alien film" to "not being an alien film" several times during its development. It's the only explanation that makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if there were debates about that during its *marketing* after the photography had wound up. It just feels so disjointed and forced.
Agree it would have worked better as a standalone IP, but they probably counted on the brand recognition being better for ticket sales.

May have worked better as a standalone, but it'd probably still be giant cod-philosophical turd.

Madame "Let's see how many Spider-man references we can shoe horn in" Web.
Marginally better than the hate would suggest, but that is an admittedly pretty low bar.

I've said it before, but it surprises me just how much people seem to hate Prometheus. I understand not particularly liking it, but people act like it's personally offended them or something. Is it really *that* bad?
Maybe it's just the effect the internet has?
(also feel free to ignore this post if it is going to cause excessive discourse)

Scream V next 😊 I'm guessing it's because it came so long after the others, and because not many people watched it compared to the original trilogy. I still can't remember if I've watched it, but I'm leaning towards a no. I think I just assumed it'd be a bit rubbish. I think I'll have to go back and watch Scream 3 as I don't remember much about that one, and then move on from there.
