I warned you I would! I'm just constitutionally incapable of not loving these movies, I fully expect that others will not be quite as on board as I am.

On the subject of 28 Days Later, probably my worst cinema experience ever to be honest. A group of five or so travellers came and sat down behind me and my friend just before the film started and proceeded to make an enemy out of just about every one of the 200 people in the cinema. They were throwing stuff at people, shouting, sparking up in the cinema, basically just doing whatever the fuck they wanted with absolutely no interest in the film. Things started getting heated when people began to threaten them. A particular highlight was a guy in a wheelchair threatening to "fucking kneecap" the ringleader. Naturally they refused to leave, and sensing an impending bloodbath the staff roped in the services of the bouncing team from a neighbouring Jumpin' Jak's to eject them. They did not go quietly. Absolute nightmare! Wow. I've had my annoying patrons experience, such as absolutely shitfaced older couple behind us in Justice League, some guys sparking up in Spider-Man 3 and the room stinking of weed and an older dad commentating 1/2 of Rise of the Planet of Apes until my mate snapped and told when he could expect his commentary on the dvd. But that's an experience I'd never imagine. I do wonder why people pay money, not cheap money to sit in a dark room, and just piss everyone off. There are so many other options for you. To be honest I can relate to the guy sparking up during Spider-Man 3.

Mark Kermode gave it a positive review too. I might have to book a Tuesday off and catch a lunchtime screening (literally my only shot at a cinema trip these days).

No he was in the Andrew Garfield movies. I think it's more to do with how fucking boring 3 was. Well I found it boring.

It’s just one of those “do whatever you need to do to get through it” movies.

SM3 gets a bad rap. It's messy as hell and has some really dodgy moments but it's not terrible. All the Sandman stuff is really cool, for instance.
I wish Sony had had the courage to let Raimi finish his whole Osbourne saga stuff and then do Venom in the inevitable Spider-Man 4. I think we'd have gotten two much better films.

He's 14 but saw it yonks ago. I can understand why tbh. I don't actually hate it like a lot of people do. It's silly in places and shoehorns too many villains in (and yes, it wastes Venom) but actually, compared to some of the spideys that came after... It's not terrible. Still think the Raimi films are the best spidey films. Garfield was a good PP but his films were shit and I can't stand the Tom Holland ones (apart from the newest one and that's only from the point that Maguire and Garfield show up).

I rewatched them all in the run-up to NWH and I thought the first Amazing Spider-Man was okay. Like, it was too long and retread very similar ground to Raimi's films, but it was fine. Just like SM3 was fine. Amazing 2 was pants, though. I also, weirdly, felt like SM2 didn't hold up as well as I expected. Watching the first two more-or-less back-to-back, I actually preferred the first Spider-Man slightly. The gonzo weirdness felt fresh and deliberate, but in the second film there's all this angst and churn with Peter that I think rings a bit hollow and sucks both the joy and the strangeness out of the film. Don't get me wrong, they're both terrific, and the action scenes and set-pieces in SM2 are much better; but I had to subtly readjust my mental ranking and place SM1 just ahead of SM2.

I haven't watched the Garfield ones. They came out just far too soon after Raimi imo. SM1 is definitely my favourite. SM2 has some cracking scenes but generally prefer origin stories. And SM3 has some good scenes but is very silly, especially the bar/café scenes (I think they're in 3 anyway, it's been a while...)

I haven’t watched them in yonks, but I always loved the battles with Doc Ock and Spidey. They were stunning. Molina was perfectly cast as well, he really could bring a lot to the character.
Garfield’s Spider-Man was a better than MacQuire’s, though his Peter was better than Garfield’s. But the stories lacked something, maybe they did come too close after the Raimi films.
But with Holland, I felt you got the whole package, both Peter and Spider-Man were spot on, good stories, and it just worked better.

I think after the greatness that was SM3 I was so fucking crushed. It's a movie built on the secret character of coincidence where everyone just happens to be everyone else is at all times. It's a movie that's confused as to who its audience is, I mean do kids really care about Mary Jane's theatre career, I don't know. It casually just introduces the concept of alien life with the symbiote and you can really tell Raimi does not like the character of Venom, well because he's quite vocal about it. Everyone just looks really tired and done with the whole franchise. And for Thomas Haden Church's big film off the back of Sideways it's a shame that this is how things panned out for him. It really is such a strange movie.

I’m going to repeat my five word review of it.
Why is Peter Parker dancing?

The Holland one on the Eurotrip is worse than Spidey 3.

I’m not really a fan of the bits in any Spider-man film which feel inspired by The Three Stooges. SM3 and FFH both had pretty egregious examples.

I don't mind if a comic book film decides to be a bit silly once in a while. My main issue with the Holland spidey films is I don't particularly like Holland himself in the role, nor the high school aspect of it. Everyone looks about 12 years old. That's just my personal preference based on the fact I'm really old mind you. So I don't like the Holland films because they remind me I'm old. Basically.

See, that's what I like about them. Parker is meant to be 16. So it makes sense to have them all so young (in appearance anyway).

Mind you I'm not a spiderman man anyway. I'm a batman man. That's my superhero. Batman. Man. Because he's just a rich guy who's miserable, so I can relate to half of that at least.

We've had Amazing Spiderman 2 recorded for ages, and I was kinda planning to watch it before doing Now Way Home. Not seen it before, but No Way Home references some major events in it.
That said, watching Amazing Spiderman at New Year it was soooooooooo long. I was kinda enjoying it and thought it must be nearly finished, then looked at the schedule and realised it wasn't even half way through. And now I see Amazing 2 is even longer. Hmmm.

I thought Amazing Spiderman was ok but 2 fell really flat for me. It also didn't help that it felt like an advent for their Sinister Six film that never happened. Thank god.

I kinda wanna watch it for the Gwen bit, but on the other hand maybe we should just watch a summary on youtube and then jump straight to No Way Home (which is great)

We once walked out of the cinema after walking right by the double doors to the screen room, where someone had actually done a shit. This was the Birmingham Odeon on New Street. You could smell it wafting into the screen.. just me and my mate close to vomiting. The manager was pretty nice about it, and gave us a full refund. That has had me chucklin like a loon at my desk.

I think the Raimi ones are probably what I'd pick, purely based on nostalgia. There's nothing wrong with the Tom Holland films, but it doesn't have Chad Kroeger bellowing out HERO. AND THEY SAY THAT A HERO COULD SAVEEEEE USSSSS
