The only thing I didn't like was the screen I was in was so packed it made the room hotter and I felt like I was going to pass out. That's the Arrakis immersion mode.

Shin Ultraman - Part of the 'Shin Japan Heroes Universe', its another movie that takes an old show and makes it weird. Its directed by the same guy who did Shin Godzilla and it follows largely the same structure. When the (deliberate?) low quality action isn't happening the film shifts focus to people just sat in a random offices pontificating about, in this instance, Japans reliance on the US for its armaments.
Its, naturally, a very odd duck. Its a bit wackier than Shin Godzilla but not as far out as Shin Kamen Rider. It plays a lot of stuff quite straight but it retains a lot of the dumb stuff from the TV shows as an homage. I imagine if you aren't that familiar with Ultraman it will look demented.
I enjoyed it, though. Its ridiculous but in a good way.
7/10

From now on, the text of where you watched it should dwarf the actual review

Napoleon 5/10 It looks nice but it lacks any real hook. I’ve seen more interesting documentaries on the subject.

Barbie. Wasn't expecting too much as I suspected much of the reception might be due to being more than just an advert, and I'm not part of the obvious target audience. But I enjoyed it. Solid journeys of self-discovery for both Barbie and Ken, frequently funny, and inventive with the premise. A slightly ambivalent aftertaste as it's still very kind to it's corporate paymasters, even as the villains of the movie, and it's not as subersive as it was sometimes made out to be, but for what it is it's very well done.
A healthy 7/10.
Oh yeah, and I rented it from SF Anytime, which I'm sure is very relevant information here.

Eastern Promises (iPlayer). Not as good as I remember it being. A Frenchman, Dane, and a German play as Russian mobsters with murky pasts. Naomi Watts doesn’t really do much other than steal belongings from a dead prostitute, then shares it with a family friend who can speak Russian.

Wince inducing fight scene that one, too much dangle
Never rated it myself, thought Watts was wooden

Cutthroat island - 9/10
One of the biggest most expensive flops of all time and Every penny of it can be seen exploding on screen, it’s actually brilliant. Directed by Renny harlin of die hard 2 and cliffhanger fame and a great cast. It’s better than all of the POTC films and needs a serious reevaluation.
I’ve not seen this since it came out, the acting is cheesy and great, the locations are amazing, the sets and stunts are top tier and the explosions, the glorious over the top explosions are everywhere. Seriously if you want a great pirate adventure this is the film to watch. I’m astonished that it’s hated so much.
It’s on ITVX

It's better than the PotC films. Not that, that is a high bar.

It’s on ITVX I've noticed that on iTVX, and been tempted to try it, but I'm sure I saw it at the time and I can't remember *anything* about it, which feels like a bad sign. I seem to remember it was part of Harlin's push to make Gina Davis an action star (Anderson/Jojovich style) but I don't remember anything that happens in the actual movie. And I remember a lot about Long Kiss Goodnight. Since I don't have access to Terminal Velocity or Drop Zone or Dune 2, maybe I'll give it a go.

The PartyWanted to hate it as it seems somewhat pretentious in its black and white clothing, (albeit with a great cast) and the actors all ACTING! but actually enjoyed it and its running time. Special credit for Cillian "Cil" Murphy's uppercut on Barry

Office Space
Fantastic stuff. I could have sworn I had seen this years ago but I don't think I had - just knew a lot of it from spoofs and people acting bits out over the years.
Highly recommended, especially if you are as fed up as I am at work lately.

Another article on the perennial topic of whether films are too long / getting longer. www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-68379592I love how every one of these articles has different statistics that prove that they are/aren't getting longer.

Yeah they're probably not actually getting longer on average. It's just people's attention spans that are getting shorter.
