Anyway...
The Equalizer 3: this time in Italy (on Prima)
Denzel goes to Sicily, gets hurt, recuperates in one of the most picturesque villages I've ever seen. He goes to nice cafes, goes shopping for clothes, sits on the docks watching the waves go by. It really does look like a great spot for a vacat- sorry sorry, I mean, a great spot to film the third Equalizer movie about him shooting people good. Yeah.
Anyway, the shooting people is still good. It's better than the second movie, not as good as the first one. It's a perfectly fine use of two of your hours.
Also, bits of the movie were in Naples, and I kept thinking how great it would have been if he ran into some of the crew from Gomorrah.
7.5/10

Transformers Age of Extinction 2/10 Really feels like everyone involved got bored after the farm bit. Gets a point for Stanley Tucci, everything else was like the previous films but more serious (which doesn’t work) and the paedo stuff, which is weird. Robots in disguise (as tween girls on the internet) ?

It’s also peak pandering to the Chinese market which you don’t seem to see that much anymore.

I think that’s partly because they make very little from Chinese sales plus filming there in covid was tricky.

I think Meg 2 was the last big obvious Chinese Hollywood film I can remember.

I keep forgetting about the Covid lag (or Covid in general. I only realised that some recent movies like the new(ish) children of the corn look so weird because they were filmed with Covid protocols so the actors are all clearly nowhere near each other and stuff like that)

Dune Part 2 - 4.5/5
Brilliant. Maybe not quite as good as the first, but it goes for it and has some proper insane stuff. The Harkonnen section is almost like something out of Eraserhead. Austin Butler was fantastic.
The best explosions in the business.
Christopher Walken looks exactly like my gran.
Bring it home with part 3 pls.

It's a 7/10 until Bill Paxton says he has a small cock, then it's an 8/10.
And before all that it's a 6/10 until Tom Arnold says how hot Arnie's daughter is, then it becomes a 7/10
And before... I'll stop now.

Yeah True Lies was not as great as I remembered, it's still very good though.
I love the Lethal Weapon movies and I thought 4 was better than 3 so it gets an 8 :-)

Dune part two.
I am a big fan of part one and all the directors previous movies so I felt slightly disappointed with this whilst still really liking it. Timothée Chalamet for me was surprisingly brilliant in this part but certain other new roles felt flat, mainly the emperor (Christopher Walken). As always with the directors films it is beautiful from start to finish and has one hell of a score. Maybe my least favourite of his though, I haven’t read the novel so I’m not sure how faithful it was but there were a couple of things that dragged this down from the usual 10 out of 10.
Solid but disappointed 8. Perhaps after multiple viewing it will get higher.

Bit surprised about Passenger 57 and Air Force One scoring above Speed, and having just watched it there's no way I'd give AWOL over a 5/10, but other than that the master list of scoring seems mostly on target.

The Eight Mountains: 9/10. Lovely and beautiful film about male friendship. Almost as long as Dune Pt. 2 with a smidgen of the scale, so set your expectations accordingly and let it wash over you.

Die Hard and Die Hard 2 getting the same score is interesting. Whatever way you slice it, the first is "ooooh Die Hard is on, I'll stop flicking" and the second is "oh it's Die Hard 2. Can I be arsed?"

What I like about 2 is that it actually IS terrorists. Or a militia. Whatever it is, they're not nicking shit.
But then it was never meant to be a Die Hard sequel. Maybe that's just why those films work. Bad luck McClane.

Going to watch drop zone and Beverly Hills cop 2 today. Might try and squeeze in the rock too.
I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen Drop zone and it’s got Gary Busey as the villain so I’m really looking forward to it.

I’m definitely sticking with Die Hard 2 if I catch it while channel surfing. And it was my favourite part of the Playstation game.

Mr Roosevelt (netflix)
Cute indie comedy about a struggling comedian going back to her old home town and meeting up with her ex-boyfriend. There’s some other stuff going on but for a 2017 movie the premise could easily fit into the post-Juno indie bubble ten years earlier. Its an easy watch but there are long stretches when it just feels like you’re watching one of the more twee and wholesome episodes of Girls.
Written, directed and starting the woman who plays Tendi on Star Trek Lower Decks.
Submarine (netflix)
The Richard Ayoade film. Its been awhile since I’ve seen this and I don’t think I enjoyed it as much now as I did in my 20s. The main character’s pretensions and solipsism makes me think you need to be at a particular place in life (or not far removed from it) to get the most out of how he presents his story and maybe I’m too far gone. Like if you tried reading Catcher in the Rye for the first time as an adult maybe.
Its well made in a very Film4 kind of way and Alex Turner’s music is perfect for it, I think maybe its just not for me anymore.
